My husband, daughter, granddaughter and I returned to the ACA (Argentine Automobile Club) Villa Gesell hotel six months after a previous stay. We can confirm its high standards and new improvements: some rooms have now been fitted with LED TV sets instead of the old box sets. The grounds are still outstanding: no other buildings adjacent to the hotel premises, as the Automobile Association owns 5 acres of premium ground on the coastline which is sand dunes covered in vegetation. This means no noises and excellent sleep quality. The maintenance and cleanliness of the facilities are top rank. 
Upon arrival, I was greeted by my name by Julian, from reception (it was my third stay in the year, but I have only seen such attention to details in movies when millionaires or celebrities enter the Ritz!). In fact, the outstanding characteristic of this hotel is the service provided by a staff who goes out of their way to make sure you enjoy your stay: reception, housecleaning, restaurant attendants, pool lifeguard.
We struck up a conversation with a couple with a small child, and they commented that they had chosen this hotel because of the friendliness of the person who spoke to them when they phoned to enquire about availability and rates. 
Off season (which translates in unbeatably low rates considering the indoor swimming pool is kept open), lunch and dinner are offered only from Thursday to Sunday. However, upon hearing we were disappointed because we had planned to eat there on Monday, we were offered toasted sandwiches, pasties and vegetable pies. As with all the homemade food in the menu, the three options were delicious. Thank you, Maria!
As we said goodbye to the staff, and promised to return next year, my daughter commented that she had felt like a special VIP guest and that it was precisely that which made this hotel unforgettable.

Always a pleasure to return to ACA Villa Gesell Hotel

My husband and I spent four nights at this superb location: The Automobile Club of Argentina (ACA) hotel in Villa Gesell. The hotel grounds are outstanding: a whole 2.5 acres of plant-covered sand dune, adjacent to another 2.5 acres of wooded grounds. It's a real beachfront hotel: not even a road to cross. Just a three-minute walk from your room to the sea. This ensures absolute peace and quiet. There is no other such hotel in the whole of Villa Gesell, a sea-side resort without too much to commend it other than the wide sandy beach and blue sea.
The ACA building (fully air-conditioned) and premises offer everything you need so that there are not too many incentives to wander about in town. The wi-fi signal is strong everywhere, even on the grounds far from the building itself. I visited in the off-season, when the 27-room hotel, intended maninly for families, was almost empty, and guests were, like us, senior citizens.
So if you are looking for peace and quiet in outstanding premises and at affordable  prices, this is the place for you. Also if you are a family group and want everything for the children close at hand. These are the hotel's main assets: a large outdoor pool, an outdoor kid's pool, children's outdoor playground area, indoor heated plunge pool, gym room for working out, large dining room on first floor with views to the ocean and hotel grounds, spacious lounge on first floor (equipped with folding tables and chairs to play card games, and several sofas placed around a large LCD screen) open parking space, and extraordinary service from a staff who enjoy what they do and make you feel welcome. Imagine having breakfast and the manager coming over to your table to wish you a good morning and enquire about your stay and your needs. During the summer season there is also an outdoors restaurant ("Parador") which rents parasols and deck-chairs on the beach. The parasols and deck chairs within the premises are free for guest use only.
We paid US dollars 70 per night for a double with buffet breakfast included, because I am a member of the Automobile Club of Argentina, so I had a 20% discount on room rates and restaurant fare. It would still be a convenient rate without the 20% discount.
The rooms themselves are more within the two-star range than the three the hotel boasts, but are quite comfortable: queen-size bed, plus a single bed against the wall, floor to ceiling sliding glass door opening onto a small terrace with plastic table and two chairs, bathroom with shower, safety box (with key), box TV. Apart from the bathroom towels, you also get pool/beach towels to take outside. There is an individual hot/cold air conditioner in each room. Sleep quality is superb, as the building is isolated from streets, cars and noises. Shutters do not allow a ray of light in. Peace and quiet. There are "Duplex" units with a bedroom and bathroom and a staircase  leading to a loft with another bedroom and bathroom, suitable for families. Also, some units have two adjoining bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, also meant for couples with children.
It's worthwhile mentioning that the building is spotlessly clean, which is an achievement considering it is set in a surrounding of sand dunes, with sand blowing in every time you open the door. 
Breakfast is standard fare for Argentina (no cooked breakfasts) with two kinds of cereal, two kinds of yoghurt, fruit salad, seasonal fruit (we had melon wedges), bread, cream cheese, butter, packages marmelades, ham and cheese slices, croissants.
The lunch and dinner menu is simple but varied. No gourmet food here. Pizza, pasta, wiener schnitzel (breaded veal cutlets), chicken, omelettes, and basic fare. Affordable too. So that if you have had a tiring afternoon walking miles south along the beach (literally, the beach is endless, moving from one seaside resort to the other if you go south: Mar de las Pampas, Las Gaviotas, Mar Azul, while it is not advisable to travel much farther north than the Gesell founder's grounds as there is a whole stretch of empty beach before you get to the next resort of Cariló) you don't need to walk another step to have dinner. And as you leave the restaurant, it's only a couple of steps to your room.
It was just what we needed to unwind from the hectic city rhythm and it turned out to be a delightful stay. Thank you all: Julián, Martín (reception and management), Carla, Gladys (housecleaning), Alejandra, María (waitresses) and Gabriela (lifeguard at pool). Yes, you even get to learn all their names! Oh, and Julián speaks some English.
