Just stayed here for a weekend and did not want to leave, it’s complete paradise. Clean toilets large camping grounds, plenty of kangaroos, birds and cows. The hosts sally and Richard are great hosts and make you feel very welcome and customer service is fabulous. A must visit and stay

Paradise in the wineries

Highly recommend camping here! The hosts went above and beyond for me and my dogs to have a relaxing stay, the grounds and toilet amenities are clean and well maintained. The scenery and location was just perfect, we’ll definitely be back again!! 10/10 👌🏼💚

Truely amazing!

Old Bara is a beautiful property and the campsites are spread out so neighbours are never too close. 
The location is a comfortable drove from Mudgee yet well away from any traffic noise or town lights. 
It's the perfect balance between bush camping and an organised camp ground. 


Very nice camping

Had a great stay over the long weekend. Would highly recommend for all types of camping stays. 
We used our off road camper trailer which was perfect as the property is about 8 kms off the main road on unsealed road. In saying this, it wouldn’t be a problem in any vehicle to navigate. 
There were lots of groups big and small yet we never felt crowded and had plenty of space. 
Hosts Sally and Richard were lovely, so accomodating & with a genuine desire to make everyone’s experience a good one.
For a first timer having to use “drop” toilets I can honestly say they were regularly cleaned and serviced & not anywhere near as bad as I had anticipated. Every effort has been made to ensure Covid safety.
It was a perfect location to take our dog along.
We enjoyed a short trip into Rylstone for a coffee, walk along the river, drink at a pub & wine tasting. 
Highly recommend for all who enjoy just getting away, experiencing some gorgeous scenery, amazing night skies & relaxing. We will be back.


Camping at its best

We stayed in the 4 bedroom cottage for 3 nights and it was brilliant. Heaps of space, modern kitchen, Comfy beds with plenty of blankets, decent wifi, large fenced yard area for the kids to run around in and views for miles. Lots of birdlife, saw a few kangaroos and wombats as well. The unpolluted night sky in the evening is stunning.

Host are lovely, there to help but not at all intrusive. Fire pit outside is great to sit around as the sun goes down. Didn't take our dog but easily could, the yard is fenced off and large so plenty of room that is secure.

The hike up to the nearby picnic spot is well worth the effort, beautiful uninterrupted views across the valley and although steep in places it's not very far.

Perfect family destination

We've camped twice now at this beautiful property! The owners, Richard and Sally are so friendly and make sure you are looked after. Dogs are welcome and there's so much space for them to run around! Camp at Old Bara is the perfect place to position yourself if you want to explore Mudgee and surrounds! Wouldn't hesitate to go back there again!

Beautiful country escape!

I want to say it's rubbish and you won't like it (just to avoid sending crowds here when I want to go back). I want to tell you to stay away (so we can have the place to ourselves) but I'd be lying....
Old Bara campsite is a brilliantly spacious, well maintained property where we are lucky enough to pitch a tent occasionally. Over the Easter weekend there were LOADS of campers, but it didn't seem crowded at all, it's very well organized. The drop toilets are the nicest I've been in- sawdust deodorizes and a tap for hand washing makes it feel quite luxurious! The owners are friendly and helpful and great to have a chat to, and if you're booking in a group (which we were) you can have a hillside or flat allocated to your party so it feels like your own private camp. Dogs are allowed by arrangement. I hear there is also a deluxe homestead accommodation available but we loved the camping so much we will stick to our tent!

Best kept secret.... shhhhhhhhh

Greeted by our friendly hosts and guided down to our camp site on a ridge above what was the last water hole around. The property was very dry and dusty but lovely and quiet. Birds were a plenty around the waterhole. Plenty of kangaroos, wallabies, some wombats and an echidna. Took some lovely walks and a challenging mountain bike ride to the top of the hill. Will definitely be back, hopefully next time they’ve had some rain.

Away from it all

This is the place to find a secluded setting while you visit Mudgee.
Easy access to many campsites.
We saw Wombat burrows, wallabies and many birds.
Overnight we went to the Hoodoo Gurus concert in Mudgee and easily made our way back to the campsite.
Hosts Richard and Sally are great.

Great place to relax in Mudgee

After contemplating fighting for a site in a National Park at Easter, I found Old Bara. The owners we friendly, campers spaced some had privacy. The site is a fair hike from Mudgee proper, but that adds to the charm. 
Sally and Richard had lots of advice on what to do in Mudgee, advising on which wineries, markets etc to go to.
This place is not luxury. Apart from toilets and toilet paper, it is strictly BYO everything including water. Toilet paper is provided. Water is available to buy, and you can pre-order Old Bara beef for a BBQ, which the owner of the distillery in town described as <expletive> awesome.
We enjoyed ourselves and would definitely look at coming here over other rural campsites in the future - Mudgee wine was a bonus!
