Wow - very impressed with this accommodation. May appear basic but has everything you need; full AC, fully equipped BBQ area including pool, fridge, sink, tools - on-site washing facilities and outdoor seating areas. More importantly - the customer device is welcoming and second to none, we left a note whilst out on a day trip to ask if they would book another top for us. They realised the trip we booked did not include transfers and they could book a better value and rated trip for us instead. Came back to find a full itinerary and it all organised. Lovely stuff. :)

Great host and facilities!

Long story short... in April 2013, we found ourselves in Clifton Beach at 9pm without a place to stay. We showed up at the Clifton palms, and thankfully the front desk was available and very accommodating. We even got a deal on the room as it was so late. Our room was big and clean, the bed was crisp and white, and the ceiling fan provided much needed relief from the heat. We returned another night that week, and have no complaints. A very friendly and comfortable stay. 

Clean and comfortable 

My mother and I stayed here at the beginning and end of a road trip around Far North Queensland. Having stayed at Clifton Beach previously we chose to stay again as it is a lovely quiet area. We found Clifton Palms a pleasant spot to stay, the rooms are old but are clean, comfortable and well maintained and have everything needed. While not on the beachfront it is close to the beach and supermarket and there is a good restaurant nearby. There are also a couple of basic eateries near the supermarket. There are plenty of great places to visit up and down the coast which makes it a good base.

A good place to stay for a reasonable price

We were booked here for 5 nights last July 2015. When we arrived there was nobody around to greet us or show us to our accommodation. After numerous phone calls (made from UK mobiles!) a lady eventually arrived. She was acting on behalf of the 'new owners'. Apparently the place had been taken over a few days before our arrival. 
We were told we were their last booking and then it was to be closed and pulled down for renovation. 
We were horrified at the condition on the whole place. Which explains why it was to be renovated. 
After reading the previous review from the family booked in for August I felt compelled to write this review. I can't believe they allowed another booking to continue after all the problems we had we felt sure it would close down once we'd left. 

On a plus note we did manage to find ourselves much better alternative accommodation (after having to stay at Clifton palms for 1 horrible night). We did get a refund for the other 4 nights we didn't stay there. Sadly we had to pay for the night we stayed. But believe me we wouldn't have stayed if we were able to find somewhere else. But it was Australian school holidays and it was early evening so everywhere was booked up. 

I'm sorry I didn't write this as soon as I got home. Maybe the other family would have seen it and had a heads up that there would be a problem with their booking. 



Terrible

At the end of May we had booked for 3 nights during a 12 night visit to the Cairns area at the end of August.  This was to be our 3rd visit to Clifton Palms.  We didn't pay a deposit as Kerryn wouldn't accept an Australian cheque, and we agreed to pay the whole amount on arrival.  In hindsight, thank goodness.

As we drove round the corner into Upolu Esplanade, imagine our horro to find a fence barricading the whole motel complex and it was closed with builders signs on the fence.  No contact from Kerryn to say they were closing down.  

We found Clifton Sands nearby and although they had no spare accommodation for us, the lady was very helpful and managed to find an apartment for us at Agincort Apartments.  She told us they had heard of several people having to change accommodation because of the closure, but it seemed most people had been advised this was happening.

The locals have no idea what is happening with the motel complex, all sorts of rumours flying around.
