I’m from Sydney and I was visiting Byron bay for the weekend. I had made my booking through booking.com and the request was accepted. 
When I showed up they wouldn’t allow me to stay as I was from Sydney had we have recently had a few cases of covid. 
I completely understand the situation and that the owner that the ability to make the decision to turn me away. Yet she not only demanded me to leave but yelled at her staff to escort me off the premises. The manager even went as far was swearing and insulting me for being there in the first place. Her behaviour from a professional perspective was horrible. I wouldn’t recommend staying at all. The gentleman behind the desk did there best to be kind to me and allowed me to wait until I found another place to stay. Unfortunately she threatened to call the police if I didn’t leave immediately.

Horrible.

This was my first ever time staying in a hostel and I couldn't be happier with my experience. If you are looking for a brand new hostel with fancy furniture go somewhere else. The magic of this one is the setup. They have a corridor through the middle with tables where everyone congregates to eat, talk and smoke. I met a lot of very nice people in a short time and they were all eager to invite each other to go explore or have dinner. There are free rental bikes and surfboards, a pool and a basketball net. You can't really go wrong as it's also conveniently located right on the main strip. Highly recommend to anyone solo travelling or looking to meet other travelers in Byron!

Friendly and fabulous

We spent 2 nights here and paid a substantial amount extra for the private room facility. This is simply a very dated, box room with thin walls and an old door separating you from the noisy, busy shared kitchen. The bathroom is shared with another room of 4 people and also very dated. This was disappointing as we had paid so much extra to have some privacy. The bed however was comfortable, which might be the only positive thing I could say about this private room hostel. Had it had been made clearer how many people you were sharing facilities with prior to booking, I would have opted for another accommodation, or simply booked a dorm room and saved myself a fair amount of cash!

Not worth paying for a private room

Stayed here for two nights over the bank holiday and booked a private room with shared bathroom - the bathroom was not clean when we arrived and was not cleaned during our stay even though it was shared with 6 people. There was also no soap in the bathroom or shared kitchen. The rooms are very outdated with only thin walls separating rooms making it very noisy and difficult to sleep. The price increase for a private room is not worth it - you may as well just book a dorm as they are connected and just as loud. There were mattresses left outside airing out - maybe because of bed bugs - not a good sight to see when you arrive to the hostel. Saturday night there was a communal BBQ just in front of the rooms and there was lots of noise all night past 4am. Overall the hostel is dirty and overpriced - you are just paying for the location in Byron. I’ve stayed at other hostels in Byron and they have all been better. 

Dirty & Overpriced 

Booked a private dorm for four over the phone on Thursday as I stayed there before, arrived late from Brisbane on Friday night only be turned back because we had our daughter 10 years old with us and minimum age is 18 years to stay at the hostel. I guess I should have checked their webpage, however, trying to find an affordable place in Byron Bay at 10pm on a Friday is not easy, if not impossible. We only needed a bed for the night and would have left the following morning but no exception was made because of the 'rules''. Of course the owner would not take my call and the staff was unwilling to bend the ''rule'' in this sort of emergency.
Very disappointing, and not helpful whatsoever, and this in supposedly liberal/ alternative Byron Bay.

Very poor customer service


Travelled 3 hours to Byron bay, booked a private room on booking.com. When I arrived I was told our room has been already sold to another person?! Baring in mind this was 9:30pm we called in advance to say we will be checking in after check-in time and that was fine. 
So I had to pay another $200 for a last minute hostel close by, being a young girl I was really scared of what to do next.
Next time they should ring you first instead of getting to the hostel!!!!!


Absolutely terrible 

My friends and I planned on going to Byron for 3 days... We ended up staying there for 5 months and the sole reason was not only because Byron Bay is a beautiful place, but the people that live there and work there are truly amazing in their own right. At Holiday Villiage my friends and I (3 in total) felt like family from the start. The hostel was clean, big kitchen, and most importantly friendly and understandable staff. This was a trip of a lifetime and I met a lot of people that I plan on seeing again at a future date. Holiday Villiage gave me and my friends a purpose to adventure with the free surfboards and bikes, filled me up with food on Saturdays with their all you can eat Aussie BBQ, and the sunrise tours made me gaze upon a sun that a million words could not describe how incredible the view was. The owners Marc and Beccs and the whole staff are friendly, charismatic, and inviting. If you are in Byron and seeking a hostel... from one traveller to another stay here for at least a week, you will not regret it.

Good value for the price you pay. The hostel rooms are very basic, with two sets of bunk beds in a barren room. The toilets & showers are decently clean. We stayed 3 nights and on the first night there were people screaming and arguing until 5am. Walls are extremely thin so you can hear everything. Would not recommend this hostel if you want to get a good nights sleep. However, the location is fantastic, right next to Woolies &  about a 10 minute walk into the heart of town and the beach.

Very average hostel in a great location

Very clean bathroom and a great social area! Ideal to get in touch with new people. Great position and friendly staff. It‘s 10 minutes away from the beach and next to all important shops. The rooms are a little bit small but clean :) 

Definitely a good choice. 

The rooms were very clean and plenty of room if you get on the appartment side where you have your own bathroom and kitchen! Great shared space outside with a pool and big picnic table where there is always games or music going on!
