Relaxing. Clean. Lovely management and dog friendly. A great 3 days away from home. 2 hrs North of Townsville in the Queensland tropics with a backdrop of tropical rainforest and Hinchinbrook Island across the water. If you're in your way north in Queensland highly recommended. 

Relaxing stay in Cardwell, North Queensland

Stayed in self-contained motel room for 1 night. Clean, relatively new facilities. Spacious room, had everything we needed. After hours self check in and check out was smooth. Staff were lovely and helpful on the phone. Thanks for a lovely stay!

Would stay again

My wife and I have just spent a very enjoyable and relaxing 3 months in our caravan at the Kookaburra Holiday Park. The park is an easy walk to the beach, shops and supermarket. A great spot to base yourself for doing day trips or relaxing around the pool reading a book. The camp kitchen is very good and the amenities and laundry are cleaned everyday by the very friendly staff. For those that are into fishing there is a fish cleaning area also. We will be back again next year as will several groups of our friends. Milton & Maureen T.

Great time at Kookaburra

I took the time to read the reviews and realised quickly, the bad reviews are from last year with old management.

The new team is great. I dealt with Amber a few times on the phone, polite & helpful. Another lady was coming out the door as I arrived (didn't catch her name) but had the world's biggest smile and seemed lovely.

I stayed in cabin number 16, which you can see has been renovated. Very nice, Very clean. I was only here for 1 night but would definitely stay again and definitely recommend it.

The only things I would suggest are, a bathroom window blind or curtain as, even though it's frosted glass you can see in (as per pic), and the  air con didn't have a heat function. If it does it wasn't working. I need heat as I'm a cold frog. 

No noise from main road (that I noticed anyway).Key drop box for early departures like most places. I drove through the park seemed nice and quiet, which suits me. And walking distance to the beach, which i might add has the best sun rises (see pics)

This trip was something I had to cancel and rebook and Amber had arranged a voucher for me which I used. Not a bad little town either.

NEW MANAGEMENT A HIT! Notice the change in reviews

I had a wonderful 9 days here in the Motel room. Large room with a double and single bed, dinning table, pots n pans, cutlery and crockery, a 2 burner electric hotplate and a large electric frying pan. Hence enough to self cater. Not to mention the awesome BBQ area. Amber was ever so friendly and helpful, she also has the best salad bowl in all of Cardwell on loan for free. Thanks Amber :)

Friendly, neat and clean

Kookaburra is under new management and it is a great improvement. The lush tropical grounds are looking even better,the villas and cabins are not looking as tired as they did and the new owner Amber has only been in residence for 3 weeks! 
We spent 4 nights here in a fully self-contained  villa which, unlike most cabins in caravan parks, firstly had quite a large bathroom. There were outdoor and indoor dining areas, a comfy lounge, large TV, aircon in both the main room and the bedroom. A microwave, an electric frypan  and a 2burner bench top allow cooking, with a full size fridge and the basic kitchen tools etc available. The bedroom, while small for the QS bed, was adequate. But it's the bed that sticks in my mind: it is seriously the most comfortable bed I have slept in in years. So comfortable, in fact, that we "unmade" the bed before we left to get the make and model so we can get one for our home.
The pool was sparkling clean and if it was summer I'd have been in there like a shot. The BBQ area is a beauty: under cover, with picnic tables and seating, BBQs, a full sized fridge and a tv set. 
This park will be on our "must return to" list. It is spotlessly clean, the flora and the abundant birdlife enjoying the trees and bushes make this a restful stopover or base for a few days fishing. And should you get hold of one of the crabs this area is famous for, the office has a pot you can use to cook to cook it.
Thanks again Amber for making this such a pleasant stay. And we will be back - promise!

ENJOYABLE VENUE WITH AN OUTSTANDINGLY COMFORTABLE BED

Having endured a pretty unpleasant stay at Kookaburra Holiday Park back in 2017, I braced for a repeat experience on my recent visit, when compelled to stay here due to all other venues in Cardwell being booked out.
What a transformation!
New owners, Colin and Roz together with their park manager, Amber have completely turned this once tired venue around and went out of their way to ensure I enjoyed every minute of my stay.
The place has really been cleaned up and refreshed and the stunning tropical gardens have been restored to their former glory.
Loved taking a dip in the pool just as the sun was rising over the ocean whilst listening to the call of exotic birds and the waves crashing on the beach.
The park is close to shops and just a walk over the road to the beautiful beach with stunning views over to Hitchenbrook Island. It offers onsite vans, cabins, camping and a separate facilities for backpackers all of which represent great value for money.

Huge Improvement Since New Management Took Over

Writing on behalf of my nan. She stayed at kookaburra holiday park last night in Cardwell. She said the accomodation was tidy, clean and in a great location. The staff were both friendly and helpful. She says the unit had everything they needed and would stay again.

Excellent stay!

I had booked 2 night accommodation on 27th April in a cabin, I was told had to give credit card information to secure booking. Unfortunately was called home the next day due to the death of a parent, notified them ASAP at  9.06am 27th April, was thanked for letting him know, never once said anything about having to pay the full amount.
Friday the 30thApril they took $330 out of my card. When I questioned him he said to bad so sad I was ripped of once for $1500, it is policy to give 48 hours notice. This person should not run any business with this attitude. 
I can understand maybe the 1st night but the second night was with in the 48 hours. This is a lesson to read the reviews. I am a retired nomad who uses caravan parks a lot as we  have a camper and only was using the cabin because it was supposed to rain for the 2 days we were staying in Cardwell. This Park will be well avoided from now on. should have a sign that says ENTER AT OWN RISK.

Don't give card details

I booked into this second rate Holiday Village for two weeks and paid$1600 in cash in advance. Later realizing I did not get a reciept.
The first night the signal came in and out on the tv, losing reception totally with no signal. I moved the lounge to find dirt, cigerette butts and dead cockroaches. After getting little sleep over the first night I awoke to a sprinkler blowing bore water all over my brand new car, this went on for three days in a row, leaving stains and marks all over my van that would not come off.
On the third day I went to the office and cancelled the second week of my stay and was told by the female that they had just done the banking and she would refund my $800 plus that had been paid in advance, in the next day or so.
The fourth day the heat was unbearable and from 8.30am through to 1.38pm there was no power at all to the entire park which meant friges getting hot spoiling food, no cieling fans or air conditioners were operating and it was unbearable,
Next thing the hose sprinkler is blarring at full force shooting water all over the table and chairs at the door entrance that was meant for me to sit at.
I went straight up to the office after turning the hose off and telling the gardner to use his brain, if he had one.and told the arrogant male via the reception phone that I was there to get my weeks refund. He said there are no refunds what so ever. and I told him that Trade Practices will be informed and I will Sue him, but this very ignorant arrrogant person just laughed stating there was a sign on the wall that said No Refunds, which was never brought to my attention and is contradictive of what I was previously advise of b the female that booked me in.
Kookaburra Holiday Village is second rate and empty, and I will warn everyone about staying at this place..It is a dump and a second rate hole so avoid staying at Kookabuura Holiday Village at all cost. You have been warned
