We spent 3 nights at this magical place, stayed in a deluxe family safari tent with balcony overlooking eastern beach, clean, spacious, comfortable, well equipped, beautiful view of sunrise, easy access to pristine beach for swimming, good boardwalk to reception and restaurant, short easy walk to western beach for magnificent sunsets. Reception staff might have been a tad more welcoming and enthusiastic. The restaurant was excellent and the hospitality staff superb. There happened to be a large cohort of mostly young Argentinians during our stay who were full of joie de vivre, spoke excellent English, worked hard and were very friendly and engaging - as were those from a smattering of other nationalities. Can’t recommend this unique place highly enough.

Wonderful relaxing stay in a unique, extraordinary environment

The location is spectacular. Amazing views everywhere. 
We stayed in the deluxe safari tent @ $350 per night. These tents have an amazing view, ours over the Eastern beach. They have a comfortable king size bed, a small kitchen with full size fridge/freezer, sink, plates and cutlery . They are eco tents so no air con, oven, stove top, microwave etc. they do have a Weber BBQ, and a small butane cook top on the deck. Overall this tent was in need of refurbishment. The bathroom and kitchen are so old and the room felt like it needed a really good clean. For  the price you pay it wouldn’t cost much to make these rooms feel more comfortable:supply 2 towels each for 3 nights and upgrade these, they were tiny, change over some of the glassware and plates , I couldn’t use ours they felt so dirty and just give the whole room a really good scrub. We were able to keep our car next to the room but needed to keep our camper trailer in the car park ( even though there was a heap of room for us to keep it next to us which we would have preferred).
The restaurant was amazing. We had the 3 course dinner one night for $55, entrees included scallops, croc spring rolls. Arancini balls, mains : duck legs, seafood laksa, pork belly . Was amazingly good quality.

Amazing place which could be so much better

This is one of our favourite coastal environments in the world. We stayed in a safari tents for 4 nights. Loved it, have been here before, back in 2007, also in a safari tent, they have fantastic sunset ocean views to die for. 

You come here for the stunning wilderness and the laid back atmosphere, amazing sunrises and sunsets, the beautiful colours of the land and the sea, not to mention the morning birdsong, the brilliant night skies, whales slapping their tails on the ocean surface, and the huge tidal range is something to see. This place has all of this and so much more in abundance. 

What really surprised us here was the robotic surly “welcome” that we received on our arrival, followed by a long list of what you can’t do and where you can’t go. Wouldn’t have really worried about commenting on this as anyone can have an “off” day, but back in 2007 we received a very similar welcome. This changed the office into a “no go” zone for us, and for the rest of our stay here, even the maintenance staff working over the four days that we were here for, could only give us a scowl. The only friendly people were the ones in the restaurant. 

Wilderness camps like this are one of my favourite things to do in life, you really don’t have to sell this concept to me, but I sort of expect that check in/admin staff would show just a little bit more enthusiasm in providing a warm positive welcome to travellers and, show more of an appreciation for the wonderful landscape and environment that they currently get to work in and, have a more positive approach in the way they they provide the interpretation of culture and country to travellers.

Wilderness = 5 star rating…Staff = hmm, not so many stars sadly.

We stayed 3 nights in a safari tent and 1 night camping at the beach hut on eastern beach. Can't recommend highly enough for a special place to stay (particularly the beach huts if you are camping).  the beach is relatively safe to swim at and crystal blue water beckons. The bird and wild life is also amazing. Several day trips are available from Kooljaman. We did Brian Lee's tagalong which was awesome and highly recommended.

beautiful place with the most idyllic beaches and views

The general location is must see beautiful absolutely.There was however a feeling that the customer was a bit of a nuisance.Three nights in a mini safari tent was spoilt by being very close to a grubby camp kitchen used by travellers as a gathering and smoking place.The toilets had no wash basins so campers were cleaning teeth spitting out and washing themselves at tap outside of camp kitchen.All a bit messy.The cafe at night only offered a $45 set menu  except for 2 nights a week, reasonable food but it would have been good to have a somewhat more affordable option.my verdict is go but if you can, pay more for the bigger tents with great sea views and more cooking options and ensuite.Take a cooler with some food.Seriously it's a great place the beach is beautiful but it could be so much better.

The negatives almost outweighed the positives sadly

Broome locals, regular stayers until now.
Place is going to crap, run down ensuite tents, can’t fish unless u walk 2ks with all your gear, can’t drive on the beach anymore, $8 ice bags, $5 paddle pops, little kettle bbq didn’t work, cash not excepted, such a shame as it’s a spectacular place and have always loved it there

NEVER AGAIN

Overall our stay was tainted from the beginning being placed in a beach shelter 3m from the communal toilets that serviced day trippers and 10 other shelters (see pic attached - literally right next door). To access the toilet every person would need to trudge right past our shelter so naturally we felt obliged to say gday to everyone off to open their bowels! Frankly quite awkward for everyone. The beach shelter was marketed as a “private beach camping experience… with a ripper review”. This certainly wasn’t the case at our shelter ‘Jaorgarie’ was set back behind the access road and scrub. If you have your heart set on staying at kooljaman I’d recommend the cliff side unpowered sites up at the campground or at least request the beach front shelters being Gnibe, Ongoe, Mindo & Eejil (see map pic) or failing that forget kooljaman and free camp at Middle lagoon. As soon as we realised our shelter was next to the toilet we called reception to discuss the opportunity for a site change and were told that everyone had already checked into the other sites. Site ‘Jundi’ was not occupied at all that night so being payed off by staff was disappointing, further aggravated by being told that certain guests had requested specific sites. There was no option to request a site on booking so this is a disadvantage to new visitors. It was a real shame there was not more effort from staff to accomodate our needs.

Beach shelter a big let down!

This place is so amazing. Just like the brochures. We paid for the view and 'got it'. No mozzies or midgies. Yay! We enjoyed the beach. It is one of the best we have been to in Australia. It is a bit of a walk to get to up and down a hill.


Quiet and peaceful

We had this trip booked for two years. Last year we couldn't go because of covid but we kept our booking. Nearly missed out again with the Perth lockdown but luckily it lifted before we travelled. Suspension upgraded on boat trailer and Prado before we left was a great idea. 
With the three kids packed up we took off. Three days travel later we arrived at kooljamon. Our first night was in a beach shelter overlooking the eastern beach. Great option and we would definitely book that option again. You have your own fire and shelter. There is room to set up your camper trailer or tent etc next to the Shelter. Toilets and showers are shared but clean and well looked after. It is a bit sandy here so let your tyres down and drive careful. 
For the next 6 nights we were in the campground. The sites are not huge but if you plan well you can fit most of your stuff in the room provided. It is wilderness camping so be prepared for that. We did here some people having a whinge about sandy campsites etc. It's always harder trying to get into one when you haven't engaged 4wd on your vehicle. Toilets and showers here are good enough. View of the western beach is only a short walk. The restaurant has some great meal options but we were pretty self sufficient with meals prepared for the whole trip by my lovely wife. 
We visited local communities that were open. Lombadina was great and had good cheap camping options. Cygnet bay was a favourite with the pool etc and good coffee and food. Brian Lee tour was a highlight as was the pearl farm tour. Would have liked to visit one arm point and beagle bay but that will have to be next time. 
Long trip.homr made longer by a bout of gastro going through the whole family. Three kids and a wife all sick and just me to drive. Very tiring for all but even with this happening the whole trip was well worth the effort. Go and visit this area. Plan ahead and be ready for wilderness camping. These are remote communities there are 5 star options but you are charged accordingly. If you can create your own 5 stars you definitely will be able to have a great comfortable holiday with some real delights in remote areas that won't break the bank. Our powered site was only 50 odd dollars a night. 
Go and travel in WA. Explore and find our treasures. We are looking forward to what is next for us in our beautiful state.
