Full of character and charm. If you want to experience the old world  (and have a great sleep) ! Netherby House B&B is perfect. We loved it from the moment we walked in. Wonderful hosts and a great brekkie top it off.

Interesting and Historical

Quaint bush setting overlooking the Macleay River. Stopped there for a delicious lunch in the quiet relaxing atmosphere. Enjoyed the pumpkin and blue cheese tart & chicken filo and beautiful salads. Great coffee and friendly service. Highly recommend this Cafe.

What a find!

We stayed as two couples for a night passing through Kempsey. Netherby is an old guest house full of old worlde period charm. If this is your thing it's ideal. There's a large verandah area overlooking the river perfect for a drink or two. Rooms are clean and comfortable and the hosts very hospitable. Continental breakfast included.

Great accommodation on the river

We stayed overnight on a Saturday night and we're the only guests. The restaurant was closed and our hosts suggested the RSL for dinner which was pricey for a club.

We sat on the verahadah drinking our wine overlooking the bridge. Our hosts were hardly seen except at breakfast when Richard provided everything we needed...cereal, toast and great coffee. The beds were very comfortable and had Avery quiet night...no traffic noise at all.  The ambience is dark and a bit mysterious. Not sure why the property is up for sale so quickly as present owners only been in place for about 6 months. Compared to all the other accommodation in Kempasey this is a little different and you may enjoy the experience. Ensuite tiny but well set out. There is aTV in room

Good half way stop to Sunshine Coast

I had a terrible experience with Netherby House B&B. I booked two rooms for my elderly mother and I for one night for $170 and $185 respectively. I dropped in early on the day of our booking to double-check if the place was suitable for my mother who has limited mobility, and found the house to look nothing like the impression the pictures gave on the website. The house and gardens looked neglected and run down. Everything from the carpark out the back, to the garden and verandah at the front looked untidy and unkempt with things stacked in piles and a hole burnt in the grass where a bonfire must have been lit. There was a strong smell of garbage. No one was home and the interior hallway looked dark and dingy. Although I immediately cancelled the rooms (when I called the owner to cancel she told me to do it through the website and hung up on me). Nevertheless, Netherby House still deducted the money from my credit card two weeks later without my authorization. It has been an ongoing nightmare to try and get refunded for these two rooms. My advice is do not stay here, the owner/manager is rude and unhelpful and the house has seen better days.

Terrible experience

We cannot give this property a rating above zero ! Our decision to make a booking was based on photographs and the NRMA’s description of the property, which we now realise, must have been written decades ago, because the property in its current state bears no resemblance to the grandeur depicted online.
The surrounding neighbourhood is slummy, and the appearance from the street such that we did not take our luggage in with us when we arrived as we thought it wise to inspect the property first.
We found Netherby House to be dark, dingy, drab, and extremely run-down. The front verandah, far from being an inviting place to sit overlooking the river, was almost completely covered with junk. 
The bed in the room we were ushered into, was sagging badly in the centre, and covered with an old bedspread that looked decidedly grubby. Needless to add, there was no way that we would stay in such a place ! Our advice to any considering staying there would be to inspect it first. 

Unbelievable !

I needed to write this because this B&B is in terrible condition. We arrived but could not stay as maintenance of property was so poor. Rooms were very tired, under-lit and gloomy. Paint was peeling off outside walls. There holes in verandah floor that housed the outdoor cafe and its mismatched plastic chairs. Richard was pleasant and understood when we explained that accomodation did not match advertised offerings and we could not stay. Shocked that it was so different to reviews from the past. It is over-priced for Kempsey, were local motels in town that overlooked the other side of the river were about $110. This place was $175 per night.
