Thoroughly enjoyed a 2 night stay and it appeared the only reasonably priced lodge that was open 'off' season.

Superb communal kitchen and the dining and lounge had superb views over the mountains. Cleanliness was exceptional and the resident manager went out of her way to ensure we were comfortable. Excellent value for money and we happily give it 5 stars.

Exceeded expectations

Our room was cheap compared to other accomodation on the mountain, it was clean and had all we needed. We had the amazing kitchen and lounge area to ourselves, so we're able to relax with a few beers, great meal and enjoy the amazing views. The lodge is right amongst some incredible mtb trails and single tracks. Cafe/bar was just down road. Bike storage room was secure and easily accessed. More than enough parking outside while we were there.

Best place to stay for mtb or bushwalking holidays

I stayed at Viking Lodge between Christmas & NY,our room,had 5 beds1 bathroom which was very basic,70,s style..the saving grace was that the water was always hot,and the bed was comfortable,we were given 2 small cakes of soap between the 5 of us,our towels were never changed. ,the window was located by an elevated path which obscured any type of view which may have been available. 
The community kitchen... 2 domestic type ovens, of which only 1 was working!
No working dishwasher. There were 40 people staying there,the kitchen was only serviced 1 daily,consequently the bins were always full,clean tea towels were difficult to find. The carpet in the dining area was not vacuumed 1 during our stay
There must be better budget accommodation somewhere on the mountain!

I stayed here last March for 9 nights and could not have asked for better help or advice from the Manager(steve). Basic accommodation, but very please with everything.
The place was always clean and tidy and plenty of space to chill, there is plenty kitchen space and all you need.
I'll be staying here again March 2015.

Viking lodge

My husband and I stayed here in January 2014 for a week.  Rooms are very clean and tidy and the Manager was very helpful and pleasant.  The kitchen is huge and all the utensils are there for your cooking needs (great to be able to cook your own meals). The lounge area is also spacious and is pleasant to relax in with a great outlook. The rooms are basic, but comfortable and clean. The location is great and would be ideal during the winter as one of the ski lifts is close by.  There are also good walking and bush tracks at your door step.  The manager was in the process of opening a workshop for mountain bike riders and if you are into this sport, it would be a handy location for storing your bike and maintaining it.  We will be back in the winter!
