Ghastly place. Looks like a seedy run down joint from the road and it lived up to first impressions. The first thing I noticed when checking in was an A4 sign on the wall advising that refunds will not be available for cancelled accommodation. And I can see why. He must make a living from charging out at price that would indicate that it wasn't zero star motel, but offered reasonable amenities . I was charged A$170 for one nights stay. The room smelt of stale cigarettes, the pillows were so thin as to be useless, the mattress hard and uncomfortable. The room was small with a motley broken down easy chair and a small dilapidated bedside table. The photos used in the marketing of this joint, I would doubt were taken this century. Also there was no milk for tea or coffee or WIFI.

I didn't bother staying and booked else where for $50 more and got a modern room with tea and coffee facilities, restaurant on site and closer to the airport.  Tiled bathroom, 4 pillows that were really comfortable, dining table and 3 chairs plus a bench for luggage and or using my laptop and a room that was twice the size.

This is a scary place and how it is allowed to remain advertising itself to the public as a motel is beyond me. At best it would be one step above sleeping on the street if it was pouring down and in the middle of a cyclone.

Absolutely horrendous.

Property does not look like what is advertised. 
Multiple drunken and disorderly people lingering inside and around the property leaving our entire family to feel unsafe.

The outside of the property is moldy, peeling and filthy. and that's just the outside. 

I will be reporting this property to the correct departments to ensure an audit is conducted as it DOES NOT meet any type of minimal standard.

Very dissatisfied,  room was not clean enough,  pillows were dirty and overall look of the room  was terrible,  looks like a dump. 
Recognising it is a budget hotel,  they could have made the room presentable and comfortable.

Booked into here, they refused to take the booking.com payment so I had to pay again then contact Booking.com to get my money back! 
The room smelt like an adult with a bed wetting problem had lived there for 20 yrs. So much hair and pubic hair on the floor I thought it was carpet! There was an ant nest in the clean towel on the bed. I have stayed in hostels all over the place, but this was like nothing I have ever experienced.
I booked a new room elsewhere and rang a taxi, was there less than 45 min. Never got my money back either.

The worst motel ever!

Pulled up at the hotel, the front of it looks like it’s been burnt down and is closed. You enter around the back to park and there’s rubbish everywhere and the outside of the rooms look very run down ( we didn’t even make it inside the room), the swimming pool was filthy, a lady sitting outside her room on the floor next to the reception office smoking a pipe with illegal substances, at this point we were ready to ask for a refund and no one in the reception office to help us. When we called the number on the door the lady who anwsered was rude and not friendly, we asked to speak to the manager and for a refund and were told by the manager when he come out “well you don’t have to stay here if you don’t want to, and ring the cops about that lady they won’t care or do a thing”. This place is filthy and I would not recommend to anyone. The staff are very rude and obviously don’t care about their customers staying in their hotel.

Horrible

Don't stay here, despite it being cheap and marketed as budget. It is absolutely terrible. Not maintained at all. Dirty room, dirty ensuite. Cannot recommend it at all. It is nothing like the photos. The whole place needs an upgrade. Needs to be painted. The air conditioner our room needed to be replaced. So noisy like having a train in the room, plus it rattled, we spent considerable time trying to pack it with cardboard so it wouldnt3make so much noise.

A disgraceful place to call a Motel

Yes the Capricornia Motel is a budget motel with long term guest. We finally arrived 3 am in the morning and the keys were as we were told they were be, the room itself was clean as a pin and tea, coffee and milk were ready for us.  It was a nice looking room. They don't change sheets/towels everyday but if you want to have them all you have to do is ask. If you want anything all you have to do is ask. 
It has a communal kitchen, a large undercover entertainment/barbie area, a pool, everything is clean everyday, there is a laundry with ironing facilities.
Yes it is a bit run down, and during this wet season maintenance and refit will be underway.
 It is dog friendly and found that all dogs were well behaved and on leashes. 
You don't have to walk far to public transport and for Senior Card holders, the buses no matter what day or time are free.
You are a short walk from the beach, Art and History Museum, the Qantas Hanger, and the Casino.
What I loved the most and what made it an enjoyable time was everyone at the Capricornia were friendly, always recommending this place or that to eat, drink or to see.  Many of the long term residents talk about the history of Darwin that you won't discover in any brochure or museum.   They were wonderful, if you needed help they were there for you - thank you guys.

We had a ball

Oh boy. I hate being a negative Nancy in my reviews but this place truly takes the cake. I completely understand for $77 you’re not going to get a top floor at the Burj Khalifa but honestly this place is the worst I’ve stayed at in any state, territory, country or universe.

On a positive note, whilst this place is a time capsule, it was clean. At least they made an effort to nicely put the towels on the beds and have a clean bed.

Now for the bad. The bed felt old and cheap and I was honestly too scared to lift up the sheets to see how old the bed was. I was scared I was going to see someone else’s blood or trillions of kids that have made their epic journey there.

The walls in the entire place seems to be constructed of hidaka washi. The thinnest paper in the world at only 0.02mm.

During my stay, I could hear with perfect clarity toilets being flushed, sinks being used, people shifting beds, farting and the list goes on. It really is that bad. At one stage, a group of indigenous were slamming doors and arguing.

If you’re in desperate need of sleep, stay. But if you’re looking to stay over a few days  because you’re in the area don’t. Just don’t.



You get what you pay for.. so pay that extra $30 to $50 for a better place.

Cheap but very basic.  Kept awake by 'locals' first night and they were then removed from the premises.  Felt unsafe there so moved elsewhere after 2 nights.  Toilet didn't flush properly and a little dirty.  Bed comfortable but needed bedside tables to put things on.  Pet friendly.  Would be OK if single male just passing through and needed a bed.  Ironing board in communal laundry was dirty and covered in cobwebs so did not use.  Pool available.  Walking distance to clubs for dinner which was great.

Disappointing stay

This was a back to basics hotel. Perfect for a cheeky lil overnight stay, perfect value for money, basic amenities - that i must say were less than hygienic(there was nether region hairs in my sink) but nevertheless basic
