Exactly what I was looking for when I came to the Grampians!  A traditional and original building in a small sea of modern structures!
The bonuses were that it was in the centre of the small town, had a good bar with great bears and wines and had a reasonable restaurant.
Is it a bit tired? Yes it is but it is currently being refurbished and the bed was very comfortable plus the room had a microwave, kettle and fridge.  Was it a little bit dirty in the corners? Yes it was but again nothing dramatic excepting for the very picky!  The bathroom was clean and the shower was great albeit with no mixer tap and even had a jacuzzi!
It was wonderful to stay in a place with so much character and to be woken up by the local wildlife with bird song that was simply delightful!
All in all you get what you pay for and the rates were cheap for the area and frankly speaking you get a lot for your money!

A memorable stay in a traditional Aussie hotel

Our meals were fantastic.
Staff were excellent , and for the price was exceptional value. 
Clean and not overbooked which meant they looked after those dining there. 
Dessert was fabulous and I loved the no frills feel about the place.

Great Tavern and very well priced

Dropped in on short notice one night for a meal..  The food was brilliant and the chat with Matt was lots of fun.  Our Japanese guests loved every minute.    Well done and good luck with the future upgrade.  Highly recommended for a meal.  We sure will visit again.  Note that this review is for the restaurant  and not for the accommodation as we had accommodation booked elsewhere.

Best food and hospitality

Me and my husband stayed at the mountain grand unfortunately only for one night (wish it was longer). This place is just gorgeous, very clean and we were made to feel very welcomed. 
Jess the manager was such a delight and made our stay so special, nothing was ever too much for her. Couldn't of asked for better service or place to stay. We had room 8 and the decor was beautiful. Loved our stay here and look forward to returning mid year.

Stayed with a group of friends ,really quaint needs updating in  a lot of places but loved the old world feel.no tv in room but it was more relaxing without .the food was great .very quiet ,close to shops

Relaxing ,step back in time

This guest house  located within a short walk from the shopping area of Hall's Gap has the charm of an earlier era. With a group of friends we were fortunate to have a friendly, caring and hospitable host. We enjoyed the warm lounge on two brisk autumn evenings. An ideal place to meet with friends. Rooms clean and comfortable and the evening meals  were excellent.

A place to relax  with friends in the heart  of beautiful Hall's Gap.

Stayed 1 night at the Mountain Grand hotel. 
We had difficulty in finding the hotel as its hidden behind a tavern and the signage was very poor.
Host was friendly and helpful, seems the have only just taken ownership and are busy upgrading/renovating the hotel. 
Room was clean with basic amenities. Access was from car park at back or through the upstairs bar/reception.
No restaurant so had to go over the road to the Kookaburra, which was excellent.
Need a lot of TLC to get back it’s charm.

A little tired and in need of TLC

Ok so I really want to recommend this 1940 guest house, you could imagine if the walls could talk and the grandness that was once there. But I just can’t make myself do it.  There’s so much to like but for my needs I can’t. I’m sure it will appeal  to a lot of other people though. 
So for the pros and there’s a lot of them, excellent location, large rooms, clean room and ensuite, lovely hot water and pressure in the shower. Very comfortable beds, very quite rooms. Lovely garden area out the front. Amazing views of the mountain range. 
And the cons🙁 no mini fridge, no tv, dark hallways and entrance, very dark communal lounge with seriously bad reception on the tv, the building felt neglected, no communal kitchen. We stayed 3 nights and would’ve liked to cook some of our meals. Guest house felt very abandoned. If there had of been a a mini fridge, crockery, cutlery and microwave in our room plus a bbq in the gardens or a communal kitchen I think I would’ve recommended this guest house. Also as stated we stayed 3 nights and no one gave us clean coffee cups or water glasses. We had to rinse them in the bathroom sink. 


Run down charm

Dropped in for a quick drink during a day trip to HG. Ordered a pot of mid strength beer and a can of Bundy. It cost $18 for the two drinks. You'd think we were in outback Australua in the middle of nowhere. I don't think it would have cost that much out there. I'll be dropping in to the bottleshop to quench my thurst in the future.

Highway robbery

To be fair, I think this place has just been taken over by new owners that are still trying to get their bearings.

The owner and staff were fantastic and very helpful. 

The restaurant food was great but made a few mistakes because  they were under staffed.

It is walking distance to the main part of town.

The rooms are very basic. The bed was clean and the shower pressure was good, as for the rest of the room, the furniture was very dusty and the floors needed a good vacuum. The rooms mostly just have a bed and coffee making facilities.

The entire building needs to be given a good clean and modernised, at the moment it is a good backpackers.

I believe we were overcharged, because on a number of websites the cost was $105 a night but we were charged $130 which was definitely overpriced for the quality of the room.
