Charming little hotel perfect for a night or two on your road trip in northern Tasmania. Friendly and warm employee. Spacious room. Location close to activity. Restaurant bar on the ground floor. Street parking.

Nice road trip.

We unfortunately booked the accommodation at the Wharf Hotel for 2 nights. With Covid rules in place you would think that cleaning was a priority but no. The room was putrid. Fans had a 10mm layer of dust. The heater had frayed cables and the room smelt mouldy and very funky. The shower was excellent but the bed was horrible and needs replacing.  We stayed with another couple and our key opened at least 5 other rooms so security was no existent. The advertise secure motorcycle storage which was one of the reasons we chose the Wharf Hotel. What absolute BS. Parked in car park and absolutely no security. For the money you should look elsewhere. Extremely poor establishment and filthy dirty. Give it a wide birth if your looking for accommodation.  However, the food at the pub in the bistro was excellent and I  would recommend eating at the Wharf Hotel

Give it a miss

The room we had was located directly over a refrigeration system (I think it is for the kitchen) The noise cycled up and down over a few minutes. The window started vibrating noisily as it cycled up.
I couldn't stand it so got up around midnight to see if I could find the managers to get it turned down or get another room. There was no information on how to contact them and repeated phone calls just went to the answering machine. I looked around the place to see if there might be a sign on a door or if I could do something about the noise.
No luck - tried sleeping in the room again but it was hopeless.
I found the laundry door open around 3:00am and ended up trying to get some sleep on the laundry floor using some mangy old material for a sheet. Really terrible. Less than an hours sleep.
In the morning the cleaner told me the managers would not be appearing until around 9:30. I rang at 10:00am and talked to Mathew who said he was a temporary manager. He said it was the first he had heard of a problem. He said he would get the air conditioning plant serviced. Care factor = zero.
Avoid this place. It is a dump.

Noisy room - ended up sleeping on the laundry floor - Shocking dump.

Paid $80 a night for room in the hotel spotlessly clean and a brand new bathroom. Also perfect for motorbike riders  they have secure bike parking. Meals are large in size and start at $12 can't go past it

Great value for money 

Super clean. Friendly, efficient & knowledgeable service from all staff. Newly renovated ensuite, plump pillows & crisp linen. Great views of the river & Bass Strait. Quiet room (was mid week). Bargain! 

I am in love!

We stayed here for a few nights in a king bed room, it had a very comfortable & clean bed, a pod coffee machine with complimentary milk in the fridge.
Unfortunately the floor squeaked rather badly, so if you were up through the night it would likely result in waking the other person.
The bathroom was small and recently updated, but the shower cubicle was very tight and there was mould on the ceiling. The little ceiling fan was on every time you turn on the light, but no sufficient to avoid the mould being a problem.
Due to the hours of operation we got our own key to the front door, so you can come & go when you please. The room wasn’t cleaned or bed changed during our stay, but fresh towels, coffee sachets & milk were left by the door. I never saw any replacement coffee pods however.
The noise of the bar maybe a problem on some of the busy nights, but overall it was ok. The food in the restaurant/bar was good, good old fashioned pub food, none of that pretentious foam etc.
The staff we saw were friendly and helpful.
Not the cheapest place around at $145/night for the king, but ok for an overnight stay. It operates as a pub/hotel first and foremost, accommodation is a supplementary income and after thought in some areas, so don’t expect the anything else.

A good pub/bar for a hotel

Wow our meal was beautiful and what a huge serving, extremely fast service. Recommend the chicken Parma it was mouth watering, excellent service with a smile and very comfortable setting. Grab a game of keno or play your favourite pokie machine or sit back and enjoy your favourite beverage, very relaxed setting. Reasonable pricing for a huge meal. 

Parma on steroids 

An oldie but I was not looking for the Taj Mahal!  Very comfortable, functional room with  quite adequate facilities and comfy bed.  It was a very popular venue for its bistro and because the dining room was very busy, I was so pleased to be able to order a beaut meal which was delivered to my room.  Very helpful and friendly staff.   If you don't like a bit of noise (because after all this is a pub,,,,) then don't complain.   It does not go on all night   Fully recommended for people travelling through.

overnighter

I booked double room which I admit was very cheap. I was expecting to get what I paid for, but I  didn't choose the more expensive rooms as it was advertised a a sea view, river view. Unfortunately my view was ugly industrial concrete and air con units- Ive added photo of view. Otherwise room was OK, bed was really comfortable, heater didn't work. A power plug and lamp next to the bed would improve the room.

Because it was close to where we were staying, we chose to eat at this place on a Tuesday night thinking it would be quiet - wrong! Turns out this is the cheap chicken parmie night and it looked like everyone in town was onto it. However we decided to order from a pretty comprehensive menu - salt & pepper calamari and battered gummy shark. The wait staff were literally running delivering what looked like huge meals and one of the waitresses was also behind the bar. At about the 45 minute mark we enquired as to how much longer our meals would be - the friendly young waiter informed us that it would be about another 10 minutes - spot on! Our meals arrived - two large serves as ordered and very nice too. The wine list and draught beer sustained us through the long wait as did the friendliness of the hard working Madison and her colleagues. I'd go back but perhaps on a quiter night.
