Unusual getaway

We were lucky enough to have friends tell us about this amazing place on the great ocean road. It sits half way between Apollo Bay and The Twelve Apostles so it's a little further than some might venture but boy is it worth the effort.
We stayed with friends over a recent long weekend and could not get enough of the place. It's intriguing from the moment you arrive at the unassuming forest like farm gate.  The experience is heightened to unexpected levels not only by the surprising and brilliant design both inside and out but the switched on yet relaxed staff make you feel like you are what makes this place unique. An unforgettable weekend away, very hard to leave.

Best kept secret.

A friend and I stayed one night here as we were planning to do half of the Great Ocean Walk. I enjoyed it alot! The place is modern and comfortable, Frank and his mate were super friendly and nice and we had such a nice chat with them. The food was super and I especially loved the blueberry muffins :) An extra as well were the kangaroos we saw from the window! Only small negative thing I can say is the wifi doesnt reach the rooms, but this was because the hotel is located in such a remote area.

Beautiful hotel!

Awesome Art, architecture and ambiance. 
Arrived at a very ordinary looking entrance that opened up to an incredible place. It was like falling down Alice in Wonderlands rabbit hole and arriving in a totally, utterly magical world. The landscaped black volcanic rock garden set against the incredible designed building was just amazing. The views are as beautiful as you expect but with added surprises like herds of cattle and Roos grazing past. 
The welcome from the hosts was genuine, articulate and full of warmth. Absolutely loved chatting to the manger. After a long drive and hikes nearby (triplet falls and Melba Gully) it was great to relax in the restaurant section (such cool decor and music playing) with a gorgeous cheese and dip platter and wine. 
Stayed in The Donald- ocean views, sky of stars at night. Bathed in a deep bath overlooking Johanna’s beautiful sweeping landscape and watched the Waves.
Four poster bed was comfy, cosy and clean.
Off set sitting room was lovely too.
Black tiled bathroom was edgy and a good contrast the colours in the Donald room.Breakfast was plentiful and completely yummy. As lovely watching the cows graze just below.
Was sad to go, could easily have spent several nights there. 
Only suggestion for stayers is bring some snacks along as it’s very remote.

Utterly awesome -Donald room

Stayed here for 1 night (wish they'd had availability for more!) during couple days on Great Ocean Road.

I don't know where to begin as far as how great my experience was:

The vibe of the entire place is friendly and relaxing. The staff was superlative and I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with them in the common room over drinks in the evening and breakfast in the AM. The common room itself is well appointed with several comfortable couches and chairs to relax in while Frank & Felicity regal you with convo and free wine :-)

The views are top notch - watching the sun rise over the surrounding countryside and nearby oceanside was an awesome bonus. 

I stayed in "The Donald" which was a fantastic room with a huge soaking tub that had panoramic views of the ocean + countryside. The entire room was tastefully done while not being overly "chic".

They also have a nice outside area with fire pits to hang out at night.

Don't be scared off by the fact this place is on a dirt road - it's an awesome place to stay. You'll feel like you're in another world and still be close to all the main attractions of the Great Ocean Road.

When I make it back to Australia I will do everything I can to ensure I get at least another couple nights at this place.

Fantastic option near Great Ocean Road

Wonderful romantic getaway on the great ocean road.The staff truly went above and beyond from the moment we landed. Sensational ocean views with wine and cheese served to us on the deck. We were lucky and got an incredible starry night! Most eye catching colours in a hotel room ever. We booked the Gypsy room and my wife now wants a bathtub with views!  Only had one night but didn't want to leave. We'll be back.
