Originally was welcomed by a winderful young girl 
Their policy on dogs is not entirely correct 
Very bad wording and not pet friendly at all
Ride abrupt lady at reception 
Roo. Filthy and not cleaned
TV mounts are dangerous and hit my head on them protruding put too far and I'm an electrician

Outdated, dusty, tiny bathroom, uncomfortable bed, dirty under beds, towels thin and worn out, carpet lifting, requires new amenities like the iron, no soap in dispenser in shower. 

Air con and fan great for the hot weather conditions. 
Great location if accessing pub.

Average Not Clean

The staff were extremely helpful.  Thr room had all the amentities required.  Resturarant wa sclosed for summer, but alternative  is onloy a 100 metres away.  Caution, GPS leads you to the wrong address.  Ignore GPS and look for signs.

Meets the needs of the short term traveller

Very old facilities, overpriced, no hand soap in male toilets, locals washing dog blankets in the laundry, suggest the big4 as a better option. Cool town with lots to see and do. Bowling club best option for dinner and drinks. Local pool awesome.

Disappointed 

I've read some of the other Reviews, especially the negatives. *sigh*.

The Ridge is 725Kms from Sydney, 64Kms South of the Queensland border (closest town: Hebel) and 77Kms North of Walgett.  Neither Hebel nor Walgett are thriving Metropoli, but they are super-interesting. The Ridge is totally unique.
It's isolated. Outback. It's dry, dusty, and far from modern City amenities, but has a special character only found in other Opal Mining towns like White Cliffs, Andamooka and Coober Pedy. 
That said, there is NO place like Lightning Ridge.​
LROR does the best it can in spite of the difficulties of said isolation, supply difficulties and problems getting reliable Staff. In simplest terms, it is what it is and you can fight it, or love it. I recommend the latter.

Reception  and Housekeeping Staff work tirelessly and cheerfully in a tough environment. I stay there about 6 times/year, for up to 3 weeks/trip.

Yes, the cabins are a bit "tired". Built in the 70s I think (therein lies a tale) and good luck trying to get tradies in on a regular basis, or a replacement part etc, but the bathrooms in particular are modern and clean.  Staff go out of their way to address problems, get stuff fixed, even change mattresses/bedding etc. Peter fixed 2 problems in my room within an hour of my reporting them, YAY PETER!

Also, the Ridge is smack in the middle of Insect Land.
I repeat, IT'S IN THE OUTBACK where all manner of creepy-crawlies thrive.
That means flies and right now mossies GALORE after the recent flooding, but there are things called insect repellent and Insect sprays. 
Use them.
I've just returned from a trip (11 nights in the LROR) during which time it's cricket nookie-season (see above re: insect spray, but a thong'll do the trick, and see below for friendliness of said crickets. The cricket resting on my foot became a meal for my Room's resident gecko, nom nom). 
What do people expect? That the town should Insect spray on an Industrial Crop Dusting level?? *slaps forehead*
My advice?
GO to the Ridge. Do not pass GO, do NOT collect $200 etc.
STAY at the LROR and have great fun making the best of things, as the locals do.
Believe me, your trip will be unforgettable.

TOTALLY worth a stay in a fascinating town!

Staff were helpful, the cabins are very old and dark, cupboard doors falling off, carpet patches missing, bathroom door patched. Decor is very dated and mismatched it seems to be just thrown together with whatever they could find. Very limited shelving space in the tiny bathroom. The kitchen area is poorly positioned, and it is difficult to work in because there is very little space and no sink!
The Outback Resort title does not fit the venue at all.
The bar onsite was very nice.



In need of an update this is not a Resort

Good accommodation with friendly staff. 
Cabin/ motel rooms a little tired but fits in with the area.
Great location with walks to everything in LR.
Have taken 15yrs to get to LR and will be back soon to tour the area


An amazing place to visit

We stayed for two nights in our motorhome and were greatly impressed with the way the receptionist made sure we had the bet position for our needs; a quiet spot. This included giving us a powered site at unpowered rates as long as we didn't use the power. The amenities were clean and the pool was cold. 

We also got some good advice as to where to buy some opals and how to get to to be artesian pool.

A great spot in an interesting town.

Lightning Ridge for New Year's Eve

Great location the only thing was we came in the wrong season.  Rooms clean and comfortable and the pub attached to the resort was a great place to have a couple drinks in the afternoon. The car door drives were interesting as well the artisan baths

Interesting place to visit especially if you have no idea about opal mining. Make sure you visit in the write season.
