This hotel has been closed for years

Called in for a night at the Grand Pacific on the way back to Melbourne. Had not been impressed with any if the food or service in Lorne in our way through days earlier.  We were welcomed to the establishment and decided to we thought risk dinner in. Wow .... Firstly the service was brilliant. The two young fellas ran everything and were so attentive and good at their jobs they are absolutely worth more money . The food was fantastic . Seafood Linguine and lamb rump. Then deserts and alcohol. All done very well. The building is charming yet a little tired but what it lacked in finesse the service made up for in spades .  Worth a trip . 

So good 

This is far from a 4 star hotel; more like a 0.25 star (if they're lucky). 

** Do. Not. Waste. Your. Money. **

You're better off staying at a backpacker's lodge. Better still, try the huge number of AirB'n'Bs in the area, the Cumberland Hotel on the main strip, or even the motels. The only good thing going for this venue is the view (if you're lucky enough to get a decent-facing room). 

The staff tried (albeit half-heartedly), and before we even had a chance to put our bags down tried to up-sell us to the in-house restaurant... WTF?. 

But to charge AUD$349 per night (which according to the venue is their "best rate") for a sub-standard room, is not only laughable but borders on false advertising and an application to the ACCC. What's even more laughable is that they're so delusional they truly believe this is a 4-star hotel. Here are just 2 disgusting things we found on our (now-spoiled) romantic overnight getaway: (i) old matted hair stuck to the base of the toilet and bathroom floor, and (ii) what appeared to be mould on the bedsheets! On a lesser note: no wine glasses anywhere to be seen, and no way to contact reception.

We complained on the day in person and via their email address. Both fell on deaf ears. There's good customer service for you... not!

Do what you can and look elsewhere for better accommodation if you're thinking of staying in Lorne. Lorne is a beautiful seaside town with great amenities and brilliant cafes and restaurants. We'll definitely return but will steer well clear of this unfortunately disastrous venue.

Occupancy was at least 50% which now screams 'poor value and even poorer quality'.

This is NOT a 4-star "hotel". Stay Well Away!

I was so looking forward to staying in this iconic hotel with its magnificent views.  The views did not disappoint as we paid the price for an oceanside room and loved being able to sit on the balcony and enjoy the evening view.  What did disappoint was the general state of the room - a torn and dirty sofa, broken door on the in-room fridge and also broken light fitting in the bathroom and chipped veneer on the bedside table. I understand this is an old building but be prepared for every floor to squeak as you walk on it.  This hotel is way overdue for new furnishings and some maintenance.  I suggest you investigate the Manatra or similar as better value for money.

Disappointing for the $$

I checked in, hotel smelt stale and old, got to the room, zero view, small shoe box, pillow stained and dirty , toilet water was running constantly, no airconditioning, sat on bed "hard " so drove into town, checked into a fantastic room with an amazing view accross the water, drove back. picked up my bags, handed key back and told the team how grotty the room was, such a beautiful old world hotel. what an embarrasment for such a beautiful tourist town.

We loved this restaurant the restaurant was divine unfortunately on our last visit a brown haired waitress with her hair up started coughing and continued coughing everywhere. No mask either WTAF! Really really disappointed someone can waitress sick in this current climate.

Server could of had COVID. Coughing everywhere. Complete disappointment.

First of all this Hotel is WAYYYY overpriced. $379 for a king room that doesn't even have an air conditioner, what a joke! The room was very old and underwhelming, nothing special, and the "view" that we apparently paid for can be accessed by the balcony that everyone can access.  We had to ask management 3 times to fix our tv as it was not working as we could not fix it and the room had a weird smell to it. All of this we could manage until we came back from dinner, we started to notice a few small bugs around the place but nothing too major. Once they lights were turned off from the outdoor balcony our room started to fill up, we spent 2.5 hours killing bugs instead of enjoying a peaceful sleep. At 1am there was no way I could sleep as bugs started to fall onto the bed from the roof and going all over us, the bathroom was also filled up by this stage and we could not even use the bathroom. We had no idea where they were coming from until I decided to go down stairs to call the night manager (who also lives in the hotel), the hall way was filled with bugs as the door to the balcony was broken and could not close! When I called the manager he came down and gave us the only room that was available, we had to block the bottom of the door with towels as this was they only way the bugs would stop from coming in. At 2am we finally got to bed and was woken up by someone (I'm assuming the cleaner) that did not know we were in the room opening the room door then slamming it shut at 7am! We quickly went back to our original room to pack our stuff and get the hell out! Upon check out, we asked for the manager who apparently was taking the day off. The young man at the front had no idea what to do with our complaint and instead just said that he also was woken up last night and frequently has bugs in his room. If this is an ongoing issue how is this place still open?? This is a HEALTH HAZARD! They charged us for the room we slept in for 5 hours which was $299. What a disgrace, I cannot believe we were even charged $299 for the room we slept in for 5 hours especially considering they have jail cells bigger than that room. Do not waste your money here, they are ripping people off and expecting people to pay for something they are completely incapable of providing.

They need to be SHUT DOWN!

We stayed two nights in the Grand Old Dame of Lorne, Lorne is the major tourist town on the Great Ocean Road and it was in the middle of the school holidays, so we expected to pay handsomely for the nights. We didn't expect the room to be so run down and tatty! We had the Queen Room which has a view looking over the pier. The room was small. There was no chair, table or air conditioning, and 3 or the 4 overhead lights were broken. (Fortunately when management was alerted to this, the problem was largely fixed.) What furniture there was, was poorly laid out and had to be moved in order to plug in the kettle! There was no bed side tables and one bed side light couldn't reach the power point and was jammed between and the bed head and the wall! The bed was comfortable and the ensuite bathroom was clean with good water pressure.

Very over priced!!

We had a most positive experience when we held a birthday celebration in the Grand Ballroom in early December, 2020. Shiva, the manager and the hotel staff not only ensured that the event ran smoothly, but they were unfailingly friendly and helpful to us and our guests, many of whom stayed at the hotel.  The food was beautifully presented and delicious and the service was excellent. We and our guests enjoyed a memorable occasion in this historic and characterful Lorne landmark.

Grand Time at the Grand Pacific

Four of us had a weekday lunch at the Grand Pacific. The view from the hotel is lovely.  It was not busy but service was very slow.  Myself and 2 others had the special of the day which was salmon in a lemon sauce.  ( which you would think would be quite a simple dish). The salmon was so dry, it was tasteless. It was served on a mash of pumpkin or sweet potato which was swimming in oil. It had a few cherry tomatoes on top. My husband had the mussels which were tiny in size. You would think at Lorne you would have decent size mussels
