The Big Blue Backyard, St. Andrews property provides a lovely atmosphere.  The surrounding nature and sea make the perfect getaway for a romantic weekend away. I would recommend this venue for anyone wanting to have time out of their usual schedule.

Anniversary getaway

From the moment you park your car you feel that you have been transported to another world . Hidden away in the bush with a very comfortable fit out you will find everything you need within to sustain you for a couple days of personal indulgence. We went for the full package & the supplies were both ample & of the highest quality . Most of it , where possible , being locally sourced . One of the many highlights was the generous outdoor spa . To be able to relax under the canopy of the Ti Trees with a glass ( or 2 ) of delicious local wine was beyond sublime . A quick rinse off under the outdoor shower completed the experience . We walked along the clearly marked dune path to the beautiful , wild national park to the beach & found we had it all to our selves ! What a rare & treasured experience this was against a background of the foaming , wild ocean & the big black sky . Just so dramatic , it made us really appreciate the natural beauty & peace of this outstanding location . We only had a couple of days available to regenerate & recharge the batteries , so to speak , this gave us all of that in spades . Really , theres nowhere else quite like it .

Big Blue Backyard is a mixture of an enchanting beach getaway and rustic safari. Run by a couple with beautiful and caring souls. It’s just like you’re visiting your family in their beautiful holiday house!

Perfect amount of space. The outdoor area is spacious and beautifully laid out.

The suites are perfectly tucked away amongst the plants and trees. It’s like looking out into an enchanted hidden forest. And if you listen carefully you’ll hear the roaring waves of the sea.

There is a reason why this place is listed on the Mr & Mrs Smith!

LISA is the most caring host we've ever had!

I stayed at Big Blue Backyard with a friend for two nights in the newly renovated "Ocean" room. We felt relaxed as soon as we walked in. Every single little detail was thought about; personalised notes, soft background music, a fully stocked fridge with breakfast, dinner and a bottle of wine. The king size bed was huge and very comfortable - we slept so well. The hot springs are less than a 10 minute drive away (definitely recommend), as are breweries and wineries, and the beach is just a short walk. We stopped at the main house for a chat with Lisa and Paul who were lovely and gave us towels for the hot springs so we wouldn't have to pay once we were there. Could not fault a thing at Big Blue Backyard - the ultimate relaxing getaway. Thank you so much Lisa and Paul for making our stay so unforgettable.

Lovely

My husband surprised me with a romantic weekend away, started off with a ferry trip over to Sorrento and spend the day at the hot springs, amazing!  Then we found our way to the accommodation, I didn't know what to expect as he really loves camping so thought it may be glamping, but when we pulled up to the big blue backyard and we walked along the path to our beach house, OMG! Lets just say you couldn't get more romantic, beautiful, peaceful and I felt so spoiled.  After the day at the springs we arrived to a grazing platter that filled us and was so yummy.  I am gluten free and Lisa and Paul catered for that brilliantly.  We could hear the waves crashing and went exploring. Beach isn't at your back door but you get to explore through bushland and then through the state forest and down onto the beach following the rock's that Paul had laid out.  It was a fairly easy walk max 10 mins and the beach is beautiful.  After our adventure we stayed in for the night as we really didn't want to leave the hut.

I took advantage of the outside spa bath with lots of bubbles, so romantic!
the bed was very comfortable, the shower was great, there is nothing that I would say needs changing.
Even thougth I didn't get to met Paul and Lisa, they run a very luxurious and romantic business. 10 out of 10

Beach house for surprise birthday

We stayed in The Beach getaway for 2 nights and it was amazingly enjoyable. We both loved the settings of the accommodation within the coastal bush landscape, and the spa bath sunk into the deck with the surrounding bush was divine. We were greeted by our share platter and a chilled bottle of bubbles to share. The personalised touches to the room fit the theme perfectly and we went back inspired to make a few little touches to our own place to add warmth and character. 

Our room was contained within the same structure as The Dune accommodation and our first night I believe we were the only guests staying, and it was perfectly tranquil. The second night additional guests arrived, and yes we could hear them through the walls. (The sliding door in and out.)

Lisa went out of her way to ensure we were comfortable, and organizing the share platter and a couples massage was incredibly easy and the service you would expect within luxury accommodation. 

Our breakfast provisions were amazing and too much for us to enjoy in one sitting, so we were able to snack on them throughout the day. Cooking facilities are outside on the great BBQ provided and it cooked the eggs amazingly, it did rain our second morning and we were happy to time our cooking with a break in the rain. 

The walk to the beach was wonderfully enjoyable and exactly what we were after to get the blood flowing after a night drinking bubbles in the bubble bath spa. The beach is a little further away than I thought it would be but it was so worth the walk. The view is sensational and the beach is fairly secluded. It was perfect.

I've seen a number of reviews on here complaining about some of the facilities, and look if you are after hotel accommodation this is not it, but as for luxury accommodation in a unique setting with some individuality then this is the place for you, especially if you enjoy beautiful coastlines.

Cleanliness was great, and the towels I didn't have a problems with. (They may not be commercially laundered, and Lisa may use her own washing machine, but they were clean and fresh.) The shower, toilet & basin were sparkling clean.

Both my husband and I have traveled significantly (in luxury and roughing it) and this met our expectations of luxury, it was the most fabulous get away from the hustle and bustle of our ever increasing busy life.

Enjoyable couples escape.

A perfect secluded hideaway for relaxing and reconnecting. Host Lisa was warm and friendly and her attention to personalising details made us feel most welcome. "Beaches" was cosy yet spacious and the king bed very comfortable. We were impressed to learn the property's environmental impact is considerably reduced through solar power, water recycling and minimal waste generation without compromising on indulgence. The highlight of our stay was witnessing a full moon rising whilst listening to the crash of waves as we sipped champagne from the spa on the deck. Very memorable.

A delightful treat

We booked this as a gift for our son and daughter-in-law for their wedding night.  I was looking for something unique, secluded and close to the sea.  The 'Bush Hideaway' at Big Blue Backyard ticked all the boxes and certainly fulfilled all expectations.  Lisa the host was a brilliant communicator during the booking process and went to great lengths to ensure this romantic getaway was perfect in everyway right down to the special dietary requirements.  The happy couple enjoyed every minute of their stay, in their own words it was 'perfect'.  Thank you so much Lisa and Paul, we were able to gift this accommodation feeling confident that it woud be something special and it was.

Perfect Wedding Night

I don't understand why so many people rate this B and B so highly. Perhaps all friends of the owners... Before you move on to the next review you need to understand that I rarely post unless it's really good or really bad! I have travelled the world for the past 25 years for both business and pleasure. I am not a novice, in fact I hold Platinum / Elite cards with two airlines at the same time so you know what you need to do to hang on to those.

This is NOT 5 star accommodation in fact I would rate it 3 star at the most!

At $595 per nght I expect as a minimum clean fresh smelling towels and a comfortable bed. I got none of these. Breakfast supplies are provided but you will need to cook it yourself. That's fine if you have a small kitchen to do it in but you don't, not even a sink.. Instead you will need to move outside and cook it on a BBQ. The bath tub is also outside but don't try and fill it up unless you have a few hours to do so! Oh and then there is the stroll to the beach, good luck with that! You may get there but won't find your way home. If your looking to get the feel for caravaning, then this is the place for you. I must say the owners are really nice people however they need to reevaluate their 5 star rating and charge accordingly.

Feeling Mislead!

Just stayed here for 3 nights but had booked for 4 nights, could NOT manage to stay that 4th night.
Luxury accommodation it is NOT, more like like camping as a matter of fact.
The shack itself is not a leisurely stroll to the beach, more like a major hike, false advertising completely.
The neighbours are just metres away and the main road literally 3 metres of where you’re sleeping.
The breakfast options supplied are adequate but the bbq is situated in such a way that the foliage near it make it almost impossible to access. The bbq itself was totally useless as it’s was tilted in such a way that the eggs we cooked just slid right off the cooking surface area into the heating mechanism.
The bed is the one of the major reasons for our early departure,
rock hard to the point of making sleep Impossible for the both of us.
Lastly, the cleanliness issue.....
The bathroom towels smelled and felt unclean,I’m convinced that they were not replaced the entire time we were there.
The floors were not clean and neither were some of the kitchen supplies/utensils/ trays supplied for usage.
The owners of this establishment are nice and helpful people but I am under the impression that they have lost the enthusiasm and zeal needed to maintain what they claim to be luxury 5 star accommodation, it’s delusional to lay claim to such lofty aspirations, yet they charge accordingly.
If we had paid $300 a night I would still be disappointed but at $600.00 a night I feel exploited and taken for a ride.
If you are looking for a luxury hideaway, this is NOT it, spend your hard earned money elsewhere.
