We stayed in unit 2. Amazing views. Great location. Right near lake & shops. Very close walking distance to shops, cafes etc. Furnishings a bit dated. In-built cupboards look old and dirty. Furniture could be updated, quite worn out. Could do with a refresh ie. re-painting. Cleanliness not up to my standard. Spiderwebs in lots of spots in unit. Outdoor pool nice and clean.

Great location. Amazing views. Appropriate based on price. Unit needs refurb. Good holiday experience.

Booked 3 nights over a week before travelling, recieved a phone call as we were  leaving home to say our room was double booked. Manager said she had only just received our booking from booking.com, even though I had we had messaged each other about linen supplies several days before. This was very poor management and caused us a great deal of concern trying to organise alternative accommodation that afternoon

Bad experience

Our family of 4 stayed recently. The unit we stayed at was fair and definitely could do with a revamp. We had to pay $15 per person for use of towels and linen which I thought was overpriced. Karen, the manager there was so lovely and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble.

Decent flat

Clean units but beds were too uncomfortable - not worth the agony of poor sleep and physical discomfort that ruins the “holiday/short” break.  Beds not suitable for anyone (adult or child).  Such a shame they couldn’t provide decent mattresses rather than the non supportive cheap light foam that one would only use to discourage a visitor from overstaying! Manager is lovely etc but .... what’s a holiday when the beds can stuff up your backs , young or old!?

Short trip 

I stayed here for 2 nights in March 2018 in apartment 6.  Apartments 5 to 9 are at the back of the property.  Apartment 6 is next to the managers residence in apartment 5.

The units at Hydra Holiday Units are owned by different people.  I understand that the state of the unit can depend on whether the owner has invested money into the unit or not.

Karen (the manager) was outstanding, generous and went out of her way to help us in a time of need - advising us on where to go for things, lending us and sharing things and providing use of some of the facilities at reduced rates.  So too was the owner of the unit.

It is at the quiet end of Short Street.  The driveway has a slope (but would not say it is very steep) which is 2wd navigatable.  The carpark has specific spots marked for specific units.  For the back units, there are at least 6 stairs from the carpark (on either side) up to the landing in front of the units.  The views can only be seen from the first floor in the back units (as the front units 1 to 4 conceal the view at the ground floor level).

It is not a place if you do not like stairs.  The living and kitchen areas are downstairs, but the bedrooms and bathroom are upstairs (at least 8 steps).   So it is a nuisance to have to go to toilet if you are relaxing downstairs.  I was given this warning by Karen when I booked directly.  The accommodation rates are cheaper if you book directly with Hydra Holiday Units.

I would agree with the previous post on this place - unit 6 was looking a bit worn and dated.  The front flyscreen in particular needed repairing.  The master bedroom bed was a bit soft.  There is no airconditioning in the bedrooms.  Unfortunately, our ceiling fan didn't work (but luckily, we didn't need it).  The airconditioning was downstairs.

There is a toilet outside the back (so you don't have to go upstairs) for those in the back units.  Unit 6 is steps away from the laundry (which was good).  There are 3 washing machines and 1 (maybe 2) dryers there and if I remember, it was a few dollars to wash a large load of clothes (not more than $4, but think it was $2?) and a few dollars to dry your clothes (not more than $3/large load).

Unit 6 is at the opposite end of the complex to where the rubbish bins are (next to the swimming pool).  The rubbish bins are closest to units 9 and 4.

Also, because it is high on the hill, the wind gets very strong and noisy as it blows past the units on the hill.

You get what you pay for and I would say that it was okay value for money.  Only the service and hospitality makes it a really good place to stay.  I would highly recommend this place if you need to stay in a major catastrophic event (severe floods, bushfires etc).  They went out of their way to find room for us and they accepted the paperwork for accommodation reimbursement by the NSW government.

Unless there is a breeze, I think that it would be very warm in summer in unit 7 and possibly the back units.

3.5* place - staff were fantastic which made up for average accommodation

These units are quite old and are showing age in some respects. However some effort has been made with refurbishment which rescues the situation - new curtains and carpets(>) and a fresh lick of paint. The is no air con in the bedrooms.

Checking in is by arrangement and bed linen/towels have to be preordered at $15 pp.

The lady in charge did everything possible  to help us feel welcome.

The view is good and the hotel at the bottom of the road is highly recommended.

Well situated and a friendly welcome.

We stayed in apartment 3 at Hydra Apartments. The view was fantastic from the front windows, lower floor balcony and upstairs bedroom. The décor was lovely and amenities were great. Good  water pressure. It looked like everything had been newly renovated. Check in was very easy and we were greeted with a lovely friendly smile. Would definitely love to stay here again.  The only reason the overall rating wasn't excellent is because you have to take your own sheets and towels or pay a fee to hire them.
