Last minute booking. Came for a few nights and stayed a week!!
Situated on the hill into Merimbula the Kingfisher Motel has the most incredible view’s overlooking the town, ocean and tree line that offer abundance in beautiful birdlife
Retro style accommodation with kitchenette, microwave and all you need, very clean and spacious…. Did I mention the balcony and that view!
Great hosts! Janine and Baron were amazing! So welcoming they really made us feel at home. With information on what to do, where to go, maps to boot.
We were even given a complimentary bottle of champagne 🍾 New year’s eve with some muffins. Janine even gave us lemons from the tree and some home grown eggs, seriously beautiful real people who clearly love what they do

Great hosts that clearly love what they do and amazing ocean view 

If I could give more stars, I would. 

We were on a road trip from Melbourne to Sydney. That day, we were driving from Lakes Entrance to Broulee, where we would spend the night. But a little outside Merimbula, our car broke down. So we were standing in the middle of nowhere, with 2 kids, with the sun going down. We called for roadside assistance. Sam was very helpful. But the real angel was Derryl, the towtruck guy. A 60-something guy went out of his way to help us with our luggage and helped us get a room to stay for the night. 

He brought us to Kingfisher Motel, where the owners were super kind. They gave us a room, charged us less for it because we were in trouble, heated up the barbecue for us to eat, offered to buy us pizza if we didn't have anything to eat, took us to the car repair shop the next day to get our car. They were so nice, and I was overwhelmed with their warmth and positivity.

I would give Kingfisher Motel and Merimbula town a double thumbs up.

A older style motel, but very clean and comfortable, everything you need. A well-equipped room with a 2 seater lounge, microwave, cutlery, iron and ironing board etc.  There's a balcony with a table and chairs, looking out to a spectacular view of Merimbula and it's waterways.  In the morning you get visited by Kookaburras, parakeets and cockies. The owner is lovely and very helpful. Highly recommended, and a very pleasant motel to stay in.

An oldie but a goodie.

What an amazing Motel, the view from the balcony is exceptional. Staff very friendly and nothing is a bother.

Very well worth staying at

We chose the Kingfisher on the basis of the previous reviews, all of which turned out to be accurate.  The owners are charming, helpful and live on site,  so they make themselves available and give the place a cheerful, bustling look.  The rooms are basic,  but clean and bright.  The views,  including the abundant birdlife and the sheep,  are stunning,  and breakfast on the balcony watching the sunrise, breathtaking.  Highly recommended.

Just a delight

5 stars all the way. The Kingfisher is delightful. Views, local wildlife and beautifully maintained. The best part is the hosts, so welcoming and warm. A charming place and relaxing stay. Can’t wait to come back.

Absolutely wonderful

Stayed here close to New Year and was wonderfully surprised. Beautiful outlook over Merimbula, nice and quiet location, room was clean and welcoming. Had to leave early due to border closure, and Janine kindly waived the extra day that we couldn't stay, very understanding and a fantastic host.

Wonderful location at great value

I stayed here with my mother prior to the bushfires reaching the South Coast area, We had been advised to try the place by a lovely couple that ran the local Bakery in Alice Street, we had no idea where to stay so they directed us here. 
Took us back to what Seaside holidays used to be, and a delightful stay was had by all, we will definitely stay here again when we visit the area and would highly recommend the motel.

Lovely Seaside Escape

The title of this review is meant to be a little amusing - we were recently evacuated from our home (in Wyndham NSW) due to the NSW South Coast bushfires.  Janine, the lovely owner of the Kingfisher, was able to find us a room for the 3 nights that we were away from home  The view from our room WOULD'VE been excellent - out over the sea - but for the pall of smoke and ash from the fires.
The Kingfisher is in a good location - on the hill overlooking Merimbula - has good off-road parking, and the rooms are clean and comfortable.  It's only a short drive into Merimbula town centre, with local cafes and restaurants (not that many of these were open due to the fires!) and there's sightseeing aplenty along the Sapphire Coast.
You'll also see lots of local birdlife from your rear balcony.
Room rates are good, and, as mentioned, your host Janine will take excellent care of you!!

A great motel with excellent views

We stopped here on the last night of a quite rushed roadtrip from Sydney to Melbourne and back home in five days! We arrived at dusk, and could only see the full moon lighting the clouds and the lights of Merimbula below.  The next morning we got the full majesty of sunrise and the gorgeous view, along with lots of Rainbow Lorikeets, Galahs, a cockatoo or 3, ibis and the sheep in the paddock below! Even though we have regular birds in our garden, this was an abundance of Australian natives. The bed was comfortable, a lovely table and chairs (where we enjoyed our t/a fish and chips) great small balcony with table and chairs, lots of towels, and a nice lot of shelf space.  All in all a wonderful spot to stop and spend a night or two, even if at first sight it is a little dated (and the owner is lovely and super helpful)
