We stayed at Buller central for three nights with our two children. We were met by extremely friendly and accommodating staff who couldn't do enough for us. The room had two sets of bunks which was fun in itself! Arguments over who was on the top bunk. Lovely communal area with a fire and games to play, a tv room and a downstairs bar/ restaurant. The proximity to the lift and ski rental is second to none. We will return thanks so much everyone. 

Fantastic location, friendly staff and comfortable place to stay

We stayed for 2 nights & honestly I couldn't have handled more than that.  These rooms are so basic, no bedside table, nowhere to store clothes (beyond 3 hooks on the wall) & really no space to move.  It's not a hotel, it's a ski lodge.  If you are happy with basic then this is fine, but for the rate we paid, I expected more, particularly because on some websites it's called "Buller Central HOTEL".
The breakfast was good, the location is excellent & the staff are lovely.

Very Basic

Centrally located within the village. Shops, restaurants, ski hire, chairlift - all within great proximity. 
Unfortunately, staff and resources, as well as facilities let them down.
They were understaffed in all areas. 
Check in took far too long, arrived at 3.30pm and discovered that there was only one person dealing with all reception work, whoch created a long delay in the process. Was unable to find reception as the bus drop off was at the "rear". Asked staff from their bar ehere check in was and their mentallity was dissapointingly dismissive. 
Rooms - very basic, unable to justify $500 per night here as they were lacking basic amenities. Room was dirty and it appeared as though the bed was not cleaned properly with sheets all wrinkly and towels did not seem clran either. No shampoo provided, make sure you bring your own. 
Walls werr paper thin, we were practically in the same room as our neighbour. Our neighbours were conversing at medium level and we could hear every single word. When we indicated to our neighbours that they were being on the noisy side at midnight, they began whispering as courtesy which was nice. Though our neighbours were whispering, we could still hear everything, even as they walked to their bathroom.
Breakfast was underwhelming with cold food which was rarely topped up. 
This also seemed to have been a direct impact of understaffing. Plates and cups ran out and it appeared to be a big struggle for them to replenish levels.
Check out was similar to check in. A sign says chrck out between 8.30-10.30am. As we tried to check out at 9pm, we were delayed for 30 minutes as the reception wasn't manned. A phone number was provided on the wall with a sign saying please ring for assistance. When we rang, nobody answered and we could see the "hotel manager/receptionist" was running around doing housekeeping work.
All in all, dissapointing stay at $500 per night in a very average "hotel".

Great location and not much else

I had no idea for $700 a night that you cannot eat any food there, no utensils other than a mug, not even a fridge or room for food, so have to spend $350 a day on food. We  have 4 in 1 room, with 4 hooks no coat hangers, no room for clothing or bags, it was so tight our bags had to sit on the floor and we had to walk all over them, it was a disgrace.  You come in skiing and no where to sit, so we all sit on the beds, there was no lounge room anywhere, it was revolting. The 2 single beds were horrible and the doonas for all beds were undersized, you turn and then have no cover, the pits. Toilet, shower and sink all together so constantly waiting to use 1 of the facilities.  It was the worst accomodation that I have ever stayed in.   It was as small as a prison cell but we were 4 people in it.

Buller Central terrible experience and pricy.

Booked through booking.com to stay at this hotel. Received a confirmation number etc to later be cancelled. Booking.com and this hotel do not honour their clientel, should not be trusted.DO NOT STAY HERE OR USE BOOKING.COM

They cancelled my booking at last minute

Only 3 years old, the facility is very comfortable and still has a new feel. Good quality bar/café and ski-shops located below. Bar/café staff friendly and trying very hard in spite of chaotic systems.

There are a some minor technical issues like hot water not coping with peak demand; drying room being too cool to reliably dry clothing overnight. Paper thin walls. No WIFI, and poor mobile reception indoors.

Confusion reigns regarding 'package deal' offers: free meals and drinks that are listed on the booking confirmation were declined, or had to be argued for. This simply not acceptable.

Worse still, a room downgrade from that booked and pre-paid room with no apology or price adjustment.  This is expensive accommodation, not a backpackers.
