The most expensive hostel for the most basic room. The only positive is that there doesn’t seem to be bed bugs. When the music starts at 11pm and continues to get louder until mid morning, you know you’re in for a sleepless night. You can even hear the hand dryers in the toilets from the club/bar. The walls are paper thin and this is the worst place to stay if you want to get any sleep at all. 

Terrible and expensive 

Went alone for a weekend ski trip. 

As a female arriving in the evening, I didn't feel very safe looking for the hidden entrance, followed by a lonely walk down a deserted (and dirty) corridor, then back outside to a hidden stairwell behind the building. 

However, once I entered into my room (four bunk beds with ensuite), it was fine. 
Very basic, no toiletries provided, but warm and clean with no bed bugs, so not much more that I would expect for a one or two-night stay. 

Note that there is no common area, so there were people lounging around in the corridors outside the rooms (and no staff around), which as a solo female was a little off-putting. 

I didn't attempt to store luggage during the day, but saw other people have issues. It seemed easier to use the paid lockers under the ski lifts. 

No complaints for my needs during the trip, but definitely one of the less well-kept and designed hostels I've stayed in. And also one of the most expensive, but I think that's everything in Buller!

Good base for an overnighter 

This hostel was one of the most interesting I’ve ever been to. Rooms were simply four beds (two bunks) and a small ensuite. The heating in the rooms was ridiculous and couldn’t be turned down. There was no common area or kitchen which made it very hard to meet people as a solo traveller. There was no wifi or even a public washroom or chair to sit on in the foyer. Just rooms. 


An interesting hostel 

You always have an idea of what you might expect at a hostel. We rented a four bed for our group of 3 with an ensuite which was fine. It’s quite small and a little old but clean and tidy and comfortable after a long day boarding. 

Location is great - but does come with downsides next to the perks. As the last reviewer said it’s next to the main bar/nightclub so is really loud at night and with such thin walls we heard every loud drunk stumble in the door and down the hallway. Not to mention the singing and shouting from the square... perks are the short distance to the centre for the lift, Food and taxi. 

Also there aren’t any racks for your board and gear - just leave stacked in the hallway. Also no kitchen or common area which surprised me the most - would have expected something like that to help save money on meals or hang out. 

We enjoyed our stay though - was just a night but dry, comfortable and clean which is always important!

Average but fine room, no common areas

It was purely just a bunk bed, a small open closet and an ensuite which is all we really needed but talk about basic. It is in a great location for the lifts and ticket counter but right next to Kooroora Hotel bar / nightclub I could hear the hand dryers in the toilets. The music went till about 1am then the stayers slowly and loudly drift in. The walls are made of paper mashe. It seemed clean enough but there wasn't even a bar of soap to wash hands with. The check in isn't always maned. There are numbers to call when this happens then you need to go elsewhere to check in. A $100 deposit is required for 'incidentals'. What they are I have no idea.
