Really enjoyed my stay. Directions and instructions were clearly provided about accessing the cottage, once I had booked. I really loved my little cottage. Had everything I needed, was clean and comfortable. Thoughtfully and attractively furnished down to the quilt cover featuring birds. Loved the beautiful wood of the interior and the privacy of the cottage - set in bush. Helpful information in the compendium about Mt Glorious Getaways, walks and wildlife. Thank you.

Cute, cosy and comfortable cottage

Don’t come in winter expecting the fire lit. 

One reviewer said the cabins were toasty on arrival, so the husband and I set out with the fantasy of a warm welcome. No. Just No.

Tip 1: Don’t go to the house first. We went to the main house on arrival at 4:30 before dark. Reception? Rolled eyes: didn’t we get the memo: just go straight to the cabin. The key is inside. Right. 

Tip 2: Don’t be afraid of the track to the cabin. It is a downhill winding unsealed track with deep gullies at sides. So you may experience a frisson of fear if driving a small rental car in the rain. But it does finish soon and you can manage without 4WD. 

Tip 3: Turn off the dehumidifier at the wall on arrival. We arrived to find a knee high rectangular white good blazing cold air, during the coldest snap in Brisbane for a while. Sadly we thought at first it was a heater that just hadn’t warmed up. Looked at all the buttons. Nope. No cold/Warm/Hot.  Percent dryness. Dehumidifier. Don’t fiddle.  Staff only. Off switch didn’t work. So:  turn it off at the wall. 

Tip 4: The matches and wood are in the built in box to the left. 

Shivering, you might hope that the laminated page right near the keys was how to turn the fire on. No. But more on that later. At this point, you just need warmth. 

The wood is all nicely set up in the potbelly grate. Phew. So all you need are matches. Where are the matches? Found bbq lighter in bottom drawer of kitchen. Phew. Love a bbq lighter. Very sensible. No burnt fingers. No damp matches. Now about the flue. 

Tip 5: Middle is the new Left. 

Find wall sign about Position Flue Handle Left When Starting Fire. 

Flue handle was in the middle. Struggled to shift it left. I don’t think it ever goes left of centre. 

Tip 6: Shifting right can extinguish hope early, 

Whatever you do, don’t shift it right when fiddling to find left or you will easily extinguish your tiny flames of hope. 

Tip 7:  Bring your own rugs, puffy jackets , beanies and thick socks. 

There are lovely eiderdowns on the bed, which will keep you warm when the fire goes out overnight. But there’s no throw rug in the cabin for huddling under while you wait for the cabin to warm. Sorry- there is a blanket but you’re going to want to throw that over the lounge because it is so grotty. 

Tip 8: You don’t need the reminder for checkout at 10am.

Yep, we got up, dressed and left our cold little cabin well before then. Wouldn’t want to delay them turning on that dehumidifier to welcome the next guest. 

Tip 9: Great walks nearby- we looked forward to leaving and finding them.

Tip 10: Don’t wait til the night before to book a Brisbane hotel during State of Origin. You might find yourself an accidental tourist with truly first world issues at Mt Glorious.

Huddling in the cold

Unfortunately would not recommend the homestead. My friend and I stayed with children thinking it would be a lovely stay to get some peace and quiet where the kids could enjoy the gardens and outdoors. Whilst the gardens were lovely and we had some stunning walks the accommodation was sub standard. The homestead is tired. Bathrooms were old and we had black gunk coming from our taps, toilet seat  slipped off, mouldy showers. Kitchen well equipped but certainly not private. Whilst the website and booking details state that from time to time there will be cleaners and gardeners that come to an area of the house, the reality is there are many rooms in the house that are one way opening into the house and there was constantly either gardeners or cleaners coming and going. Some windows had no or sheer curtains. Blowers, mowers, hedge trimmers were always background noise during the day. This really bothered us as we were wanting a “getaway” and to enjoy the gardens and quiet. It also concerned us that there were always adults around the house when we have children staying. There was no phone or WiFi. It was intermittent at best and I had to drive to Samford to make an important call. Please also note the photos represented here are not the furniture and layout in the homestead. Only one tv and no beanbags which the kids were disappointed about. The best thing was the fire which was welcome on a particularly cold and windy day. We did walk down to the cottages and they looked nice. Sadly we won’t be recommending the homestead as it was not good value or the experience we booked.

Homestead review

My son and I stayed here in October this year, and highly recommend it.  The cabins are comfortable, complete with bbq, wood burner heater ready stocked, tea, coffee, milk etc, microwave, large fridge and all the crockery and cutlery required for your stay.  During our stay we hiked up Mt. Glorious, visited the local cafe and just chilled out.  The surroundings are truly beautiful.  We stayed in the cabin called The Bowerbird, and loved every minute of it.  I highly recommend Mt. Glorious Getaways and hope to go back soon.

Peaceful and Tranquil

I booked this last minute and so glad I did - set in the forest and surrounded by fabulous wild birds and animals, our cabin was way down a steep gravel track and tucked away.  Surprisingly spacious, our Kingfisher cabin had one bedroom, a small kitchen with a microwave and small tabletop grill/oven, all the utensils we needed and china etc. and also a BBQ outside.  There was a log burner in the sitting area, we wouldn't have used it due to the very high bush fire risk at the time.  The owners had kindly provided some washing up liquid and tea-towels as well as lovely fluffy towels and fresh bed linen.  Clean and comfortable (apart from one giant spider which we managed to relocate outside!!) this was a really peaceful, tranquil place to wind down for a couple of days.  Slightly off the beaten track but worth the drive down through the forest. No wifi here and our phone signal was almost zero most of the time but that didn't matter as we spent most of the time watching the wildlife.  There are no shops on the mountain so go prepared, pick up your supplies then put your feet up and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere at this gem of a place.

Cosy and peaceful

I was disappointed with my stay, because it was obvious the cottage had been given a very light and partial surface only clean, after the previous guests. Surfaces contained dust. Kitchen bench, stove top and bathroom bench were not wiped. The fridge contained a half used one litre bottle of milk on the bottom door shelf. The basin in the bathroom had hair in it and soap scum. Unsurprisingly the dinner plates and a fry pan (I only checked what I used to cook) had food on them, forcing me to clean them before I could use them. This was an indication the owners rely upon guests washing and putting away (per their policy) and don't check items are properly cleaned when preparing rooms for incoming guests. The carpets had not been vacuumed - food crumbs could be felt and were visible underfoot and it was the same with the tiled kitchen floor... not cleaned or mopped. The mould in the silicone and grout in the shower was shocking and it beggars belief any business would risk their reputation by presenting that to a paying guest. The location is very peaceful and private, but the cottages are run down, tired and poorly maintained... particularly the shower in the bathroom. At $180 a night, I don't consider it was value for money and left very disappointed at having been treated like a fool. My overall impression was that this business clearly is of the mind-set that extracting the most from customers whilst providing an unsatisfactory, dirty, dilapidated product, is quite reasonable conduct. Staff response times to emails is poor. I had enquired the day before check-in, as to whether there was an oven in the kitchen, so I could plan ahead and know what groceries to take with me (there are no grocery stores in this location). Staff did not respond until after my stay was over and I had checked out.

On the plus side, the location is beautiful and peaceful. The bed was comfortable with high quality linens and the towels were thick and plush.

Dirty & Dilapidated

Who said that you can’t have a cool Christmas with fire place every night close to Brisbane ?!! Well you can and this place is peaceful tranquil and beautiful... with magnificent grounds and located right in the rain forest ..... you are only 250 metres to walks to Greene Falls and Maiala there is plenty to do if you want to.. there are numerous lookouts on both sides of the mountain including some spectacular sunset views ... while there are no stores on mount glorious you have a couple of cute cafes for breakfast and lunch.. we stayed in the homestead which has all the amenities and while it’s not 5 Star the location is ... impeccably clean and tidy .... we just loved it!!

Family Christmas 

My husband and I stayed at one of the cabins at Mt Glorious Getaways last weekend for our anniversary. We loved it. We have stayed at a lot of different places before but was totally impressed with everything here. They have managed to use the space within the cabins very well. The bed is amazing ... one of the best we have slept in. We were fortunate to have a visit from one of the residents in the rainforest ... a cute possum. Highly recommend this place. We stayed in The Bower Bird cabin. A weekend was definitely not enough. Will go back 😊

Wonderful Stay

We were entertaining family from overseas and were hoping and looking for a perfect venue for our large family to spend as much quality time together as possible.  We are so thankful to have found this place.  

Mount Glorious Getaways was the perfect location with the accommodation providing all required amenities for comfort, taste and a serene environment living close with nature.  It was like owning a private ranch as we had booked all the cabins for the weekend.  We all had a great time and will be back for more.  

We highly recommend the venue for large family events and is also a perfect getaway for the entire family with the smaller cabin accommodating 2 – 4 people.

My weekend at Mount Glorious Getaways

We were here recently and after a stressful week at work it was just what the doctor ordered! 
Peaceful and beautiful is an understatement! 

The cabins and main house were fully equipped so you can pack light. There is a gorgeous working fireplace which really adds to the character of the place. 
Outside there is so much open space to play sports on, go on nature walks or just sit, relax and take in the silence. The only noise comes from the variety of birds that love to show off their bright colours to you! We managed to hold a couple of them as they were so tame. 

This will probably be a place we will visit frequently when we just want to get away from it all. Highly recommend!
