DO NOT STAY HERE. Not a luxurious chalet, very over priced. Ran out of gas which meant no heat, no cooking, no hot water. Could not contact the owner for over an hour. I asked for a discount and Frank (owner) offered the night for free and then reneged. I tried to get in contact many times to resolve the problem, extremely poor communication. Extremely unsatisfied, this place is over priced and the owners are very unprofessional. DO NOT STAY HERE.

TERRIBLE SERVICE, TERRIBLE COMMUNICATION

This place could be amazing. it has great views of the land and river. But unfortunately it wasn't up to 4 star standards. When we arrived at the Treefern Chalet, it was absoloutley freeing. No heater was put on. We also noticed no instructions for ANY appliances. But we let these things slide and we had a great first night. The second night was a disaster! We were gonna have a spa which was outside (the reason why we booked this place) and there was no hot water to fill it up. then we discovered our heater stopped working. As both are run by gas bottles. We had no gas left. The same thing happened with the couple next door and they had a baby with them. You can't have no heat in Noojee in winter. This an essential that should not run out of gas! Management were very slow to respond to our complaint but in the end got us to move to the Redwood house which is....nice but not what we paid for. The house was also freezing with no instructions again. They did apologies to us and gave us wine but this is very disappointing and does give us confidence to wanna come back here.

Disappointed and not worth it

The location here is stunning and the grounds immaculate.  But sadly that did not extend to the accommodation. I have waited over a week to write this in the hope we might hear something from the management in terms of an apology.  But nothing. When trying to book, communication was slack. Never a good business model, absentee management.  Guests need to know someone is available should the need arise.  And we certainly had a need! When we arrived the unit had NOT been cleaned. And it was also very 'tired'. Having run an impeccable BnB for over a decade (NEVER a bad report) I certainly have standards.  Because of absentee management it took sometime for cleaners to come (both of whom were apologetic and efficient when they did). As was the maintenance man (who arrived with a couple of nice bottles of wine) to sort out a heater that wasn't working.  This place fell well short and at the price, NOT good enough.  Very disappointed in a place that should have been...and still could be...absolutely stunning.

Disappointed

Perfect accomodation in the Redwood house. Relaxing and tranquil. Frank was a great host. Definitely recommend. The falls 5 minutes down the road were spectacular and the noojee pub was very accommodating for dinner including a pick up and drop off by the curtesy bus. 

Christmas breakup for busy ladies 

We really loved the Redwood Chalet ... with 9 guests it was comfortable with the amount of bathrooms and the beds were comfortable and fresh .

There was a few cleaning issues .... microwave was so dirty I had to clean before using, bathroom on ground floor had the floor covered in long black hair and pubic hair all over the place , toaster was full of crumbs which we left , no dish cloths ir spray and wipe , no vacuum cleaner ( lucky one of guests is a floor sander and had one on board) all windows were covered in cobwebs and patio was mouldy with dead pot plants , we had an absolute ball but wouldn’t call this luxury accommodation

Get together with a group of friends

This “chalet” is the saddest accomodation I’ve ever been unfortunate to stay in. Gloomy, so isolated it was scary and just so run down. The furniture looks like it’s been bought from the local Vinnies! They’ve done an amazing job “tweaking” the photos. Wildly overpriced for what it is. The only redeeming feature was the view of the river. Oh, and a condom left in one of the drawers! Thank God not used! 

Just awful

The forgotten Chalet
this is the second attempt to rate Toorongo River Chalets, the first was not published.
We spent 6 weeks in Australia and learned a lot about spiders: where there is one, there is definitely at least a second one and if you are lucky you will find it right away. Unfortunately, the little animals often only show up when you have already moved into quarters. At the end of our vacation this fact made us so sensitive that we were fed up with spider catching. Our last accommodation on this trip was the Tree Fern Chalet of Toorongo River Chalets. On arrival we realized that it was not a detached chalet, but one building with the Manna Gum Chalet. It is not mentioned on the homepage, but it is represented as if it were a single building. Furthermore, the exterior condition of the chalet has horrified us, the building shell is described rustically and is predominantly clad with corrugated iron, which was covered over and over with cobwebs. Also the windows were covered with cobwebs and the room impression did not make the bright and friendly impression as shown on the homepage, but seemed rather gloomy. Just as we were looking inside the chalet, we saw a spider disappearing into the sofa. We decided not to stay in this accommodation and wrote an email to Belinda explaining why we did not stay. We have also taken the liberty to ask if we will get a part of the costs refunded, unfortunately we received an answer to date. I'd like to add some photos, but there's no way.

The forgotten Chalet

We spent a week at the Redwood Lodge for a family occasion and chose it as it accommodated up to ten people.  The lodge is advertised as luxury accommodation but was far from it.  Upon entering the house we noticed a very strong and unpleasant smell.  The manager was contacted and she said that previous clients had also commented about the smell and that it had been generated from a faulty heater - more like a dead rodent in the ceiling!
Two of the toilets had not been cleaned at all and there was distinct evidence of recent use.  One of the bedrooms had mouse droppings on the mattress and rat bait was scattered throughout the house. Some furniture had not been dusted and the floors appeared to have had only a cursory clean.  The kitchen cupboards were dirty, microwave oven was splattered with food and the ovens looked as though they had never been cleaned.  Oil was dripping onto the hotplate from the above exhaust fan. The fully appointed kitchen had one saucepan and two fry pans - one of which didn't have a handle!
The house had cobwebs throughout both inside and outside and dead insects adorned the window sills.
Our complaints were met with comments such as "back off from the manager as she is getting stressed", or "just enjoy the scenery".  We could have pitched a tent at the campsite and enjoyed the scenery without paying for so called luxury accommodation! The responses to our concerns both from the manager and the owner were dismissive  and they totally failed to recognise that a rental that had been advertised in print and on the net as luxury accommodation was in reality very far from it.
In summary, the lodge is located in the most beautiful location and could be a very nice place to stay.  However at the moment the property suffers from a prolonged lack of maintenance and abysmal cleaning.

Faulty Towers but without the humour

We stayed at the chalet enroute to Mt Baw Baw towards the later part of the winter. The chalets are nestled among the hills and the builders have quite effectively used the natural settings to create a "Walk in the wilderness" effect with the colorful parrots chirping, the rivers flowing and the shady trees lining up your path to the chalets. The scenery may have been brought to life from an Arist's canvas.
The heater in our chalet was non functional and the management promptly moved us to the bigger, luxurious and quite spectacular five bedroom chalet, greeting you at the doorstep with flowery trees and instantly putting you in a relaxed frame of mind. The well maintained huge chalet caters for a big family and is also right across from the wedding reception hall onsite, so it's a great venue to host your wedding party.
above all, if you are traveling from Melbourne or beyond, its a great place to camp for a day or two before heading up to the snow on Mt Baw Baw.
