We were expecting a boutique feel but were disappointed by the lack of nice touches. The room was clean, comfortable and location good. No secure parking nearby. No Covid safety at all. Nowhere to hang wet towels and no milk or sugar in the room...we could ask for it, but expected it to be there. Breakfast provided but not explained.

Only Nice

My partner bought a Groupon deal , hour massage ( back neck , head and leg massage ) trying to book in for this massage was extremely hard work took numerous phone calls , voicemails which they never called back. When I did get in touch with someone and made a slight joke saying they were in possible to get ahold of the lady on the other end said “ well I try to call the crown all the time and they don’t answer or get back” which I found extremely unprofessional we made a booking then covid happened so had to cancel , the voucher then was out of date  . When we finally were  able to get in touch and re book a day before the appointment which was late arvo  I got a text saying we need to reschedule to a morning time due to staff members off sick, when I said I would have to check as I have stuff on that time the lady was very rude on the phone and made it sound like it was my problem not hers . I understand people get sick , but she was going to charge more money due to voucher out of date when I asked would we still have to pay extra as I don’t think it’s fair we have to change our mid morning plan to last min booking which she replied a simple no. Canceled that appointment and managed to get ahold of them after 2 weeks of trying to get through showed up , girl on front desk was very unorganised didn’t even say hi walked away then came back , we had to say what we were in for and what time our appointment was . The lady who is in charge is extremely rude ( I’m assuming she’s the one I kept getting on the phone) was very abrupt and didn’t make it feel like a relaxing experience! Told my partner and i to wait upstairs in the waiting room then came over and said “‘are you ready?” I said we sure are which she replied” well follow me then in a very abrupt manner , which my partner and I  didn’t like the attitude as she made it sound like we were a nuisance rather then a priority , and wanted to walk out but as we didn’t want to waste money and our time we continued to go ahead with our massage . she took us to have a foot scrub which was all of 30 seconds each, followed by the worse massage I’ve ever had and for the head massage was more of a flick to the scalp. Followed by refreshments which were plain crackers a bit of sweet chili cheese and salsa and champagne. We literally just ate and finished our drink  and left and not one person said bye or even looked up to attempt to ask if we enjoyed our pamper . After all the time and effort and paying extra for weekend , and for the couples massage and then paying extra to be in a same room , I would strongly say avoid this place dont  waste your time and  money definitely not relaxing at all! 

Bday present , waste of money !

I purchased a 2 hour couples' Groupon voucher for my partner's birthday, as well as booked a room for the night. After my bookings, I saw some recent terrible reviews on TripAdvisor and became anxious that the birthday surprise would be terrible.
I had no need to worry! The only struggle I had was getting in touch with the ladies who run the place, which I took to be due to the number of vouchers sold and the Christmas period.
We were warmly greeted on arrival by friendly staff, our bags were carried up to our room while we checked in, and bubbles and nibbles were brought up to the room while we got ready for our treatments.
We came back down and were led to the private cabin spa which was absolutely beautiful. We had bubbles and water waiting for us, the water was at perfect temperature, and wonderfully romantic with a little fake fire and battery-operated candles around the room. Next, a young lady led us to the massage room where we had the rest of the treatments from our voucher. The two ladies who did our treatments were great; friendly and professional. Afterward, we went back to our room to get ready for dinner. The hotel is in a great location to walk to restaurants and we felt very safe walking around at night. The next morning, we were able to have breakfast straight away as it was set up in the kitchen. We filled up on cereal, yoghurt, toast, fruit and herbal tea before checking out. We would definitely recommend the place and stay here again.

Wonderful experience

This was, without competition, the worst “spa” experience I have ever had in my life. I am livid that my friend threw hundreds of dollars down on this “experience” and that, looking at the rest of these reviews, this is just something to be expected. 

There are SO MANY weird details about this place I feel I could write a novel so I’ll just get down to the most important bits: the corner-cutting (which amounts to theft), the lack of any health or safety standards, and the fact that this is a house, not a hotel. 

I checked in around 1.30pm with my friend and we were taken to our room which was aggressively average. I think the place is going for a ‘Boudoir’ feel, but the walls in our rooms were painted that god-awful peach colour (that I associate with an old folks village, or Grandma’s house) and the attempts to make it boudoir were laughable. Two ugly, very cheap “paintings” on the wall, and a sticker on the toilet door proclaiming it the “Powder Room”. There was no soap in there, no towel, and no spare toilet roll. We were also given no shampoo. This will become relevant later. 

To go to our spa treatment we were told to put our bathers on with a robe and put a clean pair of knickers in the pocket. A bit weird, but understandable if we’re going straight from the spa to the massage. Our treatment started with a 3 minute foot scrub which was done in 2 large metal bowls that were definitely from a bargain store like red dot, I have the exact same bowl at home for making bread. Anyway, the water in the bowls had some unidentifiable powder in it and mine had half a squeezed lemon. Pretty weird, but we were still under the impression this was a serious spa at this point so ignored it. The foot scrub itself was meh and we were then lead to the spa room. It’s important to note here that before entering the badly ventilated hot room with an over-chlorinated spa we were NOT asked about medical conditions – no one inquired as to whether we were pregnant, had a heart condition or issues with fainting or literally anything. No duty of care whatsoever. 
Anyway, so we entered the spa room, which is insane. There’s a saddle in there. A real, full-size leather saddle along with what looks like some old farm machinery and a gurney wheel. Just….what? There’s a fake fireplace too (although god knows why you’d want that considering how hot it is) and a window/mirror that looks suspiciously 2-way. Anyway we got into the spa which had a floating pool chlorinator in it. Like, the type designed to sterilise a whole-ass pool, not a tiny spa. This will become relevant later. I took it out while we were in there but little did I know it was already too late. We were in there for 30 minutes and we found out later, when we reviewed the package we bought, that it should have been an hour’s soak. Now, after the whole experience, I’m honestly not sure what I should be: angry that the owner ripped us off by a WHOLE HALF HOUR on the package we paid for, or thankful she didn’t let us steam in chlorine gas for another 30 minutes. So we got out, and there are NO showers or change rooms to rinse off and change in. We just had to strip our bathers off in the room, and dry ourselves with our own home towels we were instructed to bring with us. Oh its also worth noting here that the treatment girl told us that, if we didn’t have any dry knickers we could just, “roll down the wet bathers for the massage.” So….we’d just be lying on the treatment table…in wet, chlorinated bathers????????

So we move to the massage room, and no one moves to take our wet bathers/towels or anything. I am left carrying them in a basket which stays in the room with us. We’re instructed to wrap ourselves in a towel and sit on the bed and that we can choose from some essential oils to use in our massage if we want, but they do cost extra. We both went with Ylang-ylang. BIG MISTAKE. They don’t ‘use’ massage oil, so much as baste you in it, like they use A BRUSH to paste it on. SO MUCH OIL, DEAR GOD. We were asked whether we wanted the hot stone massage or the bamboo roller massage and when I asked what the difference was, the treatment girl (refuse to call them masseurs) looked annoyed and said she didn’t know. So then we had a very weird massage where we essentially has some oily, hot stones rubbed all over us with way, way too much oil and also way too much leg work? I think she massaged my back for all of 5 minutes. Head massage wasn’t included and the hour massage was cut short at 45-50 minutes. 

All in all, from the squeezed lemon in the foot bath, to the steaming in the spa room, to the use of a brush to apply oil in the massage room I felt more like a Thanksgiving Turkey being prepared than a person receiving a luxury spa package. 

Hours later, we both smelled less like ylang-ylang and more like canola oil (I believe they are adulterating their essential oils) than anything else, and we both had CHEMICAL BURNS ON OUR SKIN from the way over-chlorinated, unventilated spa room! We were both red and itchy for DAYS. I don’t know about other ladies, but I work had to keep my skin nice and I am angry that I ended up with chemical burns from what was supposed to be a pamper package!! Oh, we were also, as part of the “revive the romance” package, supposed to receive roses and chocolates. We got neither. We were also unable to wash the chlorine out of our hair as there was NO SHAMPOO.

So, once we put all of this together we started reading other reviews and, low and behold, this is a pattern. The people who run this spa are GRIFTERS. They do not care about your health and safety, they WILL try to extract as many dollars from you as they can, and it will be especially bad if you’re a groupon user. 

Some other things to note: there is no night porter or staff. You are left completely alone overnight which is bizarre and, as far as I’m concerned, a dereliction of duty of care. Also, all of your private details: credit card number, home address, full name etc are kept in a plastic folder that was just shoved into the bottom drawer of the weird self-serve kitchen thing on level 2. I found this while I was looking for a teaspoon to mix up some soothing face mask when our skin started burning. Seriously, all of your details are just accessible to ANYONE staying overnight in the hotel. No care for your privacy or security. I am also extremely suspicious about how the business is being run, considering all massages are forced to cash payment (they have an eftpos machine) and if your payment lands on an awkward number, they will just “round it up” to the nearest 10.  

Oh and finally, this building is not a hotel. There is no sound proofing, you can hear everything. During our stay the house next door was having a late party and we could hear it as though we were in it. 

I’d give this place 0 if I could. DO NOT COME HERE.

You'll be glad you have to bring your own towel

Booked in at the start of the year (2020), COVID happened so I had to postpone our booking.  Upon trying to re book I have called and emailed Luxe on Kensington over 4 times to rebook with little communication. Received an email back asking to call between 10-4pm , which I did 3 times over 3 days with no answer. Upon being disheartened by this I called to ask for a refund, no answer again. So I have now sent 4 emails requesting a refund with still no reply. Absolutely atrocious communication, would not recommend.  

Very disappointed

Hey trip advisor buddies .. bought wifey a groupon voucher as she was stressed out and needed a break ... it was supposed to include 120 mins of combined hot tub and massage time and we were short changed by 30 mins .. wifey noticed ... not good ... massage was ok but not amazing ... hot tub was nice .. and we stayed the night in room 1 ... king spa suite .. bed was ok .. room was actually really nice ... TV needs to be higher maybe mounted on wall .. no water bottles in fridge and no hand towels which was a bit strange .. we found one of the massage ladies to be a bit abrupt ... the foot treatment and eye treatment were underwhelming...  but we did get a complimentary bottle of bubbly ! An ice bucket would have been amazing.. I’ve seen all the other reviews some are harsh..  some are glowing.. I know business and know it well .. there’s an opportunity here to really crank this business and chase 5 star review after 5 star review.. this enterprise is not there yet but can be .. 

4 stars .... has potential to be amazing! 

Spa changed my appointment twice. From the outset I felt like I was an inconvenience. Arrived for my appointment. Rang the bell and waited. Then a voice called me from the top of some stairs. I’d not been there before and did not really know what I was doing. Expected to complete a form re health etc. As is the practice at any other spa I have been in. The vague disclaimer I was given was signed in pencil. Therapist was okay. Bit disappointing they a hot stone massage involved hot stones for about 10 minutes. Again, not my experience at other spas. No real acknowledgement as I left. Would not recommend and won’t be back. Too many negatives. Wished I had read previous reviews. 

Will not be going back 

Tayla had the best touch. She gave me a delightful foot scrub, the perfect massage - full back massage including legs - and a lovely refreshing facial with amazingly fragrant products. I Felt so relaxed and pampered.

Where to begin 

Got gifted this by dear friends for a birthday. Was extremely looking forward to a relaxing evening with my partner over a massage and champagne. We were greeted by a distant yell for our name and directed to walk upstairs. Sat in a dirty waiting room with no introduction or break down of our experience. Ten minutes later which was late, we were offered a drink and within another ten minutes brought out a 1/4 of a teaspoon of mouldy pate’ with supermarket crackers and cheap chocolates.

Taken to the spa which had half the jets off so only one of us at a time could enjoy it, 1 million degrees in there and for an hour it’s just too much (which we questioned and tried to swap out for more massage time but wasn’t allowed) 

Then on to the massage with no offer to “rinse off” were we layed in a cramped tiny space and the experience in my partner words “a finger rub” - even after confirming we enjoy a very firm pressure twice. We got hustled into a bamboo and stone massage for addition cost to which we didn’t receive the bamboo part. 

Got dressed and opened the door to which we awkwardly got told to exit the front door and straight up “goodbye” 

THE MOST AWFUL EXPERINCE IN MY LIFE if not for my partners company I would have walked out half way though. NEVER EVER AGAIN
