The new receptionist (german girl) couldn’t have been more disinterested if she tried. Her demeanour is just so unfriendly which I haven’t had at any YHA before so some customer service training here is certainly needed. The rooms are fine but no AC and only two fans between four beds makes for a sticky night. The showers are just ok and the WiFi has issues plus the location is way out too. I’m a fan of YHA but I’m afraid I wouldn’t recommend this one at all.

This hostel is quite lovely. It’s a bit quieter than something down in surfers paradise itself (and any Aussie can stay in a dorm if they so wish, unlike all the ones I looked at in the heart of surfers paradise which state only international passport holders are allowed in dorms... YHA doesn’t discriminate!) Which is nice after a long day out., to come back and relax. I mean some nights there is/would be a little bit of noise from the bars nearby but it’s not that bad and on my first night (a Sunday) it didn’t go too late. 

The skybus of coming from Coolangatta airport drops you off right out front too which was very handy. Also picks up from the same spot. 

If you want to go into surfers for some fun and sun and a bit more action than main beach offers, the bus doesn’t take long at all. And is quite cheap. If all else fails an Uber or taxi wouldn’t cost too much either if you’re returning after buses have stopped. It’s a decent hike so unless you’re a keen walker, definitely look at the bus or Uber/taxi.

I found the bathrooms to be clean and well maintained. And the water pressure in the shower was good and the water stayed nice and hot. I didn’t use the kitchen during my short stay so can’t comment on that. 

The beds are quite comfy, and I stayed in a 6 share all female room and there was a good amount of space for people to move around in and not be completely on top of each other! 

The balcony area outside the rooms is quite cool, with chairs and tables you can relax at while eating or just taking in the views. 

I booked my stay directly through the YHA website, which never stated anywhere about a $20 room key deposit. So I was surprised upon check in when I was asked for it. I don’t have a problem with paying one as you get the money back and I understand why hostels do this. But it would be a good idea to have it in the book information/stated in the booking process so people aren’t caught off guard by it. (This isn’t a bad thing. Just a suggestion to have this mentioned in the booking process so guests are aware)

I would definitely return to this hostel for my next visit to the Gold Coast!!

Great stay

small rooms, no aircon! The place is clean and friendly staff and in a nice location - about 45 minute walk into the town if i remember corrrectly. But the rooms are small and the fans just circulated the hot air.

Wow! What can I say! This hostel exceeds expectations from the excellent views from the balcony to the clean facilities all over the hostel

But most importantly the staff at YHA are the best I’ve ever encountered, as soon as you go to check in you are welcomed with friendly energy and big smiles. they are there to offer a helping hand no matter how big or small the problem is. 

Rafa, Dany and Anie went out of their way to help me. Without a doubt three of the best staff I’ve ever met! Thank you so much for your help, you guys made my stay amazing. 

This is our second stay at this hostel and we came back due to the fantastic customer service we received! We’d happily come back again, Thank you so much guys!

Great night sleep! Amazing staff

The polish receptionist is the nicest, warmest, approachable and helpful hostel employee I have ever met (and I've been staying in hostels a long time!). There was nothing that she couldn't help with ranging from advice about surrounding areas and must see landmarks, to car hires, to excursions and even accommodating me when changing rooms at the hostel. She's a wonderful lady whom needs a pay rise! 

The hostel was clean, not a party place so ideal for a good night sleep, the dorm rooms are not 100 people to a room like most uncaring hostels (mine was 6 people), there's a padlocked locker for your valuables, I was also given a bath towel during 1 night in a private room, the kitchen facilities are great, never struggled to find crockery or cutlery, the furniture on the veranda is looking a little tired and needs replacing but nevertheless it was nice to have breakfast on it people watching as everyone went about their daily business (the hostel is situated in a busy shopping complex right by the harbour! I also loved the fact the hostel had a mixture of ages! One evening I saw two middle aged men sharing wine and cheese watching the sunset! Brilliant!

The shared communal toilets were a bit of a pain, there's only two and they're situated on either end of the hostel which means if you're in a room right in the middle, you've got a few minutes walk to whichever end you choose. There's also only one set of showers. I feel two sets would've been more appropriate for the hostel size. The hostel could also take great advantage of lift facilities as dragging luggage to the hostel level was slightly backbreaking.

Warm, friendly, cheap, comfortable

It was all you'd expect for the price you pay, maybe a bit overpriced. The staff were lovely when checking in. Room was in a funny place, you go out of the hostel to get to the rooms via a metal gate. The weather was horrendous so we only left the room to go next door to eat, which was fine. There was obviously a party so got a bit noisy. 

Room was basic but bed was comfy. Just could do with a clean. They've recently painted the room, made clear by the paint on all the picture frames. Carpet was a bit dirty, and the windows being so thin and old meant that the bad weather came in, wind whistling and rain leaking through. 

Main gripe with it was that it was so far out of town. Wouldn't be possible to walk it comfortably, cost us a fair bit in an uber. They do a shuttle service into town which is handy, so they should to compensate how far out they are. Next door to sea world which i guess is a perk.. and the versace hotel..

Cheap bed for the night.

Myself and a friend stayed here for a night recently and we were happy it was just the one night we had to stay. 

The rooms & bathrooms weren’t the cleanest and the rooms got very hot at night. I didn’t enjoy the way you had to walk through the common room / kitchen area to get to the showers. Walking by a bunch of people playing pool when your in your towel isn’t ideal. 

We had a private room & were given towels & toiletries in the room. The staff were nice. It did the job for the night but that was about it.
