We spent two nights in this beautiful little town. We had a room in this quaint cottage. The room and bathroom were spotless. My need for gluten free breakfast were respected and catered for. The cottage is in the main street and walking distance to everything. we really enjoyed our stay.

Quaint cottage in a beautiful village.

Quaint old stone cottages are lovely to look at but they need to be finished to a high standard and very clean. We enjoyed our overnight stay with a cosy wood heater and garden setting. The facilities are ordinary and not as comfortable as we would have liked. The reception staff are very friendly and helpful. Prices are fair.

Very nice but could be so much better

We had Samuel’s cottage- a 3 bedroom sandstone 1800’s cottage which was incredible.
The staff went to great lengths to accomodate my gluten free wife.
We just loved this place- and the locations- and will be back in winter to fire up the fireplace.
The church up the top of the hill is a must visit

Absolutely fantastic

We stayed in Captain Samuel Cottage, it was gorgeous!  When we arrived the fire was already going, making it very cosy.  It was decorated with carefully thought out memorabilia. It was extremely clean and had everything we needed to self cater.  The gardens were gorgeous and we loved the fact that we could walk through the back yard to the river! One tiny fault was the Wi-Fi kept dropping out.  I would highly recommend Captain Samuel Cottage and hope to return again one day!

Lovely Weekend Stay

This little cottage is a curiosity in itself. Almost as old as the colony and appropriately restored and maintained for use in the 21st century. We had rung the owner on our way to Ross to find out about local laundry possibilities. Sadly he reported there are none but mentioned others of his cottages that were more self contained, not just B&B, had washing machines. I asked if there was one available he could swap us to and for a very small extra amount he gave us  Cupid's Nest with no penalty for our original booking cancellation. 
This little cottage was cute to say the least but robust with its beautiful stone walls. An 1830s house has been divided into two like a Duplex. One is family size and Cupid's Nest is just for a couple. A fire was already set to light if we wanted it and, for our two night stay, we loved having it. There are electric heaters for those who prefer not to light a fire. The kitchen was basic but had everything we needed and the bathroom was very roomy with a modern moulded shower in one corner. The bed was comfortable with electric blankets. The decorations were quirky and precious and all in all there was a lovely feeling of times past. It really was a great place to kick back and relax when we weren’t exploring the beautiful little township of Ross on foot. A very easy walk over two half days. So much history. Pub meals were great and the bakeries both served great breakfasts. 

Very quaint and romantic historic cottage

Our family of five really enjoyed a stay at such a beautiful, old cottage. It had a lot of character and the cottage garden outside was lovely. Roaring fire was great too. Easy location to walk around town. We couldn't get the heaters to work properly in the bedrooms - but that wasn't a problem at all. Those old stone cottages have nice thick walls!

Very cozy, comfortable cottage

This is a beautiful 3 bedroom cottage with a modern clean bathroom. It has a wood fire that heats he whole house. It is within walking distance to the pub and all other historical attractions. Plenty of cafes close for breakfast. 

Captain Samuel cottage

Booked 2 nights through hotels.com and the instructions said you had to check in between 2.30pm and 6.30pm or you would not be able to check in until the following day.  We raced to get to Ross before the 6.30pm curfew, arriving with 15 minutes to spare.  Reception was already closed but there was an envelope taped to the door with my name on; this contained a key and  instructions to find the property.  We saw a couple going into a property next to reception and asked if they could help, they couldnt but said that the key had been left for us earlier, so why was I put under pressure to get there by 6.30pm?!  The next problem was finding the property, but in the pitch dark in a town with no street lights and without a torch this became quite stressful as the instructions said Cupids Nest is 4 properties down the road. Great, in which direction and on which side of the street??  The hand drawn map was confusing and it took a visit to the pub (the only sign of life) to find it.  When we finally found Cupids Nest I turned my ankle in a pothole on the front path (I was lucky I didnt trip on the looped cable that protrudes from the gatepost).  Once inside my heart sank even further, the main room was a weird arrangement of odd furniture, the kitchen was a 'hole in the wall" arrangement and the tacky decor (nasty cupid pictures, tartan carpet and crochet tissue box cover) was just awful.  I walked across the lounge area to pull the curtains and the flooring in front of the fire gave way under me.  We needed to stay the night as we were exhausted and could not find any other accommodation within a reasonable drive but decided to speak to reception the next day.  I found a huge dead spider under the dining table which made me feel very uncomfortable.  Neither of us slept as the bed was old and the mattress a 'roll together' and very creaky.  The shower had mould around the skirting board and we had to reboot the wifi 5 times in the 14 hours we were there (had to go down the drive of the house next door in the dark and turn the shed power off and on again by the light of a mobile phone).  The next morning I walked down to report all of these issues but there was no one in reception, I wasnt able to raise them by phone either so we packed up, left a note and left.  I dont care that I lost a nights money.  I honestly dont know how they have a 5 star trip advisor rating on hotels.com, Cupids Nest is a total disgrace.

Cupid's Rest, good because we didnt!

Quaint delightful cottage accommodation with all the mod con's provided. Centrally located in the main street of Ross everything was in easy walking distance. Dinner at the local was great food and reasonably priced. Lots to see in this old town that is very well preserved. Plenty to see and do.

Passing through

Cupid’s Nest is one end of a larger heritage cottage in the historic town of Ross, about two and a half hours north of Hobart. Everything in the town is within walking distance. Cupid’s nest is quite comfortable and well laid out. There is a bedroom with en suite as well as a separate lounge area with a fireplace. A kitchenette includes a microwave and hotplate. Parking is straight outside the front door. During the day there are several places to eat in Ross but in the evening the local Ross Hotel is the only place open. Some of the shops only open on the weekends.
Delightful and good value, we enjoyed our stay in the nest and Ross.
