Had one of the best Thai meals in my life last night  - would never had expected that out in the Tasmanian wilderness at Strahan. (PS My wife and I are over 60 and have done cooking school in Bangkok so we eaten a lot of thai food over the years and have some clue)

Under new management and with new chefs this little gem has expanded its menu to include authentic Thai food that will knock your socks off. 

We had money bags, satay chicken entrees (really generous servings) and the Crayfish special. Having knocked back having a crayfish in Launceston ($160) we jumped at the chance of having a whole crayfish, straight off the dock, for only $95. They had 4 ways of serving it, and very cleverly allowed you to do a half and half of 2 different tastes. We had half with namjim and the other half "Thai spicy salad". Namjim was really nice, but the other was simply superb - the fragrances drew the attention of the next table when it arrived.

So good we are going back tonight, and we are only in Strahan for 2 nights so that tells you something. 

BUT, make sure you book  - they were turning people away.

Amazing Thai in the Tasmanian Wilderness

Great Thai food, very fresh and flavoursome. We had the spring rolls, satay skewers, crying tiger & chicken cashew dishes. The staff provided great service with a selection of Tasmanian wine to top it off. Highly recommend!

Really enjoyed our delicious dinner. Flavour flavour! Curry puffs to die for! Then spicy coconut broth noodle dish with prawns and beef massaman. Paired with great Tasmanian white. Highly recommend drop by for good bite

Great dinner

Prior diner reviews prompted my husband and I to book dinner at The Bushman’s and we weren’t disappointed. We began with the fish cakes and oysters accompanied with a glass of sparkling wine and both entrees met our expectations. My husband then ordered the fish  laksa and I the mushroom risotto and both were well balanced and flavoursome, a treat for our palates (delectable). The bottle of Watervale Riesling that we shared with our mains was a pleasing match. We were very happy with our dining experience at The Bushman’s and would recommend it to others who are seeking something a little special in Strahan.

I paid a lot of money per head for a 42o banquet comprising of mediocre seafood and dished ($65.00 per head - and my husband doesn’t eat seafood), $90 for half a lobster at Risby Cove (it was amazing), but the menu range at Bushman’s, the deconstructed Beef Wellington (amazing), the pastas - and the coffee - all outstanding.  If you have prepared a Beef Wellington, then you will appreciate the depth of the pâté, the delicacy of the rare eye fillet - but the mushrooms and mustard were quite a surprise.  A limited but well selected drinks menu, a staff that know their menu, know their chef & are not in the slightest pretentious .. they don’t have to be when there are only four places to eat in town at the top of the tourist season.  I loved this place - thank God - the West Coast has some claim to fame that they aren’t exporting elsewhere!

Best Dining Experience in Strachan

Well Strahan harbours not only a bigger bay than Botany, but also an absolute little star of a restaurant. The food at this bustling and atmospheric eatery is top notch. Expect more than the title gives away, with a greatly varied menu, fast service with a dash of flair and excellent food. Four of us shared entrees of Eggplant Dengaku, Thai Fishcakes and Tumeric Cauliflower. Each one a delight of flavour bites, possibly the best Thai Fish cakes I have ever eaten, and that is a lot!
Impressive varied menu, with equal skill applied to Gnocchi and Asian delicacies, with nothing lost in between. I highly recommend you eat here when visiting Strahan, make sure you book, the word is definitely out!


No Basic Bushman.

After spending one night in Strahan, we found this gem, Had dinner at Bushmans and found out Tasmania is really a foodies paradise. At first glance the menu looks a little different but to experience the complex tastes is totally awesome. We shared fish cakes for an entree and then shared the sweet and sour ribs as well as the drunken chicken. To find somewhere to cater for coeliac whilst  keeping the true flavours of fresh food is so appreciated. Wish we had known of their accommodation option because would of loved to have supported them in that as well. Well done on your awesome contribution to Strahan.

OMG Awesome

Well, it simply does not get any better than this. The owner takes you on as if you belong to his family. STEVE. We will not forget you and the experience you gave us. This is the golden nugget we were looking for when we travelled from the States. Travellers, dont miss this one please. It is a WOW.

So Good!

The sweet and sour lamb is incredible. Very friendly staff and owner. Convenient location. Nice and warm. Treat yourself. Five star. We will stay in the accommodation next visit and definitely enjoy the food

Amazingly good food

Great unit 55 sqMt warm, clean and comfortable with water views but a few steps to climb up. Also very close to all the touristy things.   The best thing about this establishment is the attached restaurant run by owner Steve Bennett.   This restaurant was the best we visited in all Tasmania with very moderate prices, but the wine is a bit expensive but it is all Tasmanian.  The first night we had a share platter of smoked salmon, Gin cured salmon and a fish pate followed by Asian beef salad, variety of mushrooms with soda noodles with a bowl of perfectly steamed vegetables - excellent. The next evening was also excellent with two share plates, salmon (same as previous night) and the best cooked calamari with Asian veges and cos, tomato and Parmesan salad.   Fast personal service.  This restaurant is a must visit - bookings essential.   Regardless of other reviews this food is terrific and moderately priced. Well done to all.
