Stayed for 3nights, rooms are ok a bit small for 3 people, kitchen was small too, we have to wait for some to leave so we can use the kitchen. 
Only good thing about this place is close to everything, shops, restaurants, bars and public transportation stations.

Great location

Actually my 3rd time stayin at downing.  Great hostel which is very well run by the brilliant staff.   If you are travelling solo this hostel is perfect for you as you will meet so many people thanks to this hostel being smaller than some other hostels.    Rooms are clean, bathroom and shower facilities are nothing special but do the job.   There is a roof garden which is nice to relax on at the days end.       Over all I find this hostel fantastic and would highly recommend.

Great hostel

Had a great time at Downing and met a lot of awesome people! The staff were awesome and the location is so close to Museum and Town Hall stations, just steps from all the sites of Sydney! There's a really cool rooftop chill-out area as well. But, I must say the free family dinner and the Sunday funday pub crawl we're my biggest highlights!

Coolest hostel ever

location in Downtown ok - within a 30 minutes walk you reach Darling-Harbour, Opera-House, Royal Botanic Garden, Central Station, Sydney Tower Eye and many more places; cleanness so far so good; staff very friendly to me; I staied five days and felt well. I would return in case of another visit of Sydney.

First of all, there are no curtains in the room. Besides, it smells really bad in the rooms. There is a Korean restaurant in the same building, so probably thats the reason for the smell. The floor in the toilets, showers and laundry room were always wet and really dirty. The common area in the building was too small, only the rooftop was big enough. 

We changed hostels, this one was not worth the money.

One of the worst hostels I stayed in the last two months.

Perfect mix of quite and a good time. Great location, very close to all the main attractions. The staff are proper friendly, clean rooms/showers . Good for long term and a short stay. Will definitely be coming back!

Class hostel

Me and my friend spent 4 nights in a 4 beds dorm. The room was clean, the beds quite comfortable and the staff friendly. Toilets, showers and kitchen clean as well. Only a 15 mins walk to opera house and 10 mins walk to shopping street. There is also a bus stopp right around the corner. Our only negative aspect: there was that lesbian couple in our room and they were quite noisy, they kissed the whole time and the whole bed was moving which was pretty annoying. At least we had a nice time in Sydney. Thanks for that

All in all a good time

I arrived very late at night and left very early in the morning- but the staff were super friendly and accommodating. I needed to store my bag for the whole day after I checked out, but left before reception opened. They let me keep the bag in the room and took me up to get it that evening when I needed. The hostel itself has a very cute charming atmosphere, and the location is amazing. I will definitely stay here again if I come back to Sydney.

Great people and great location ! I spent a very good time there. Everybody is so nice and very helpful. There is such a good feeling / atmosphere there. The price is also pretty good, and everything was clean. Would come back anytime if I am back in Sydney !

Great Hostel

I would call this a traditional hostel with a party/ergentic atmosphere.
I only stayed 1 night so I was close to a meeting point for a tour.
If backpacking, you could stay here, easily meet people and have an alright stay.
Not the cleanest place I have ever stayed but ok. 
Do have to walk up 3 sets of stairs to get to the first floor of the hostel.
