The Hostel is beautiful, really clean and quite! Everything is organised and prepared for each guest. The atmosphere is great and the stuff super friendly.The location is perfect. I really recommend it.

Beautiful Hostel!

My friend and I wanted somewhere relatively low priced and comfortable for a one night stay in Townsville and that's what we got. We arrived very late so I had previously emailed Fran re: leaving the key for us etc. and this was all very easily arranged in advance and communication clear. Fran kindly stored our luggage for us while we were at Magnetic Island and also offered us use of the facilities after we got back that day, before we headed off. I didn't use the communal bathroom at all however my friend did and I recall that she said there were a fair few mozzies in there but it was otherwise fine. We didn't see or make use of the kitchen at all so can't comment on that. I opted not to sit on any of the furniture in the communal area as it didn't look overly inviting (not that it wasn't clean or anything but with the tropical climate I was worried about bugs etc.). Our room itself was clean, beds comfortable and en suite clean with a good shower. I would stay here again for a one or two night stay but would probably opt for somewhere else for a longer stay.

Decent one night stay

I stayed for a night and is a cute house and the personal is very helpful. I needed a taxi for the morning and they called them for me, so I was very grateful for that. I would book it again for the next time in Townsville.

Nice place

Perfect stay in a quiet neighborhood, I enjoyed it. Fran, the owner, is very kind - she even gave me a free ride to the bus terminal in the early morning. 
Highly recommended for travelers who prefer a quiet place rather than backpacker party atmosphere.

Nice quiet place

Orchid Guest House helped us have a good night’s sleep in a clean room with a comfy bed and a friendly, helpful host. The guest house is well situated, a quick walk away from the city and a scenic walk away from the Strand.
Highly recommended!

Spontaneous stay and lucky find

Stayed here with my partner and his sister and found Fran to be a very welcoming and helpful lady. 

Fran went out of her way to collect us from the bus terminal and gave us a lot of information about conveniences in the area. 

We had a very spacious flat to ourselves with double bed, single bed, private shower and toilet, and kitchen with private entrance. 

Excellent value for money. Fran allowed us to leave our bags there for a few hours after check out. 

Very Helpful

First the pluses: comfy beds, close proximity to cafes, Cowboys Leagues Club and the Strand, plenty of hot water.

Now the rest: 
This property is advertised as two bedrooms which was one of the reasons I booked it, along with the price. It’s NOT two bedrooms. It’s one dedicated bedroom and two extra beds in the living area. Can sleep 6 or 7 but only one two seater couch in the living/‘second bedroom’ and 4 chairs squished around the table in kitchen. Tiny television in living area. Slightly bigger one in the bedroom. 

First night tried to cook dinner to find everything felt greasy. Only 3 forks for 5 people (owner rectified this the next day, however). Back right element on stove works but not properly. 

Very old interior - 60’s style. Even has strings to pull to turn on lights. Very dark inside as hardly any natural light. Woken up around 11pm one night by a backpacker coming home to accommodation next door (same owner), talking very loudly on their phone. All the windows are louvre so zero sound proofing. Friday night music from a concert or club made the whole place practically vibrate. 

Shared laundry and clothesline with backpackers next door. Shower drips. Came home to find hand wash topped up in bathroom only to find water had just been added to make it go further. Power boards everywhere and fire alarm hanging on the wall by a wire. 

Brought up a couple of issues with owner and she got defensive and mentioned that the photos are on the booking websites. 

If you’re a family I’d advise spending a little extra and going elsewhere better suited. 

Not for families

I stayed for just 2 nights traveling through Townsville. The location of the Orchid Guest House is within walking distance to everything (the main shops, the Castle lookout and The Strand beach area). The staff are super friendly, my room was clean and great for the price. Would stay agin for sure!!

Great Location, Friendly Staff, Cheap and Clean

This is suuuuch a wonderful little cozzy place ❣️ so relaxed and full of beautiful people. You can really feel at home. Fran is such a nice lady . Will definitely recommend it 110% and will come back for sure.

Cozy beautiful place 

My friend and I stayed here 2 nights. We had a large double room which had great air conditioning, very clean, a television and great access to WiFi. Our host Fran was exceptionally accommodating and had great local knowledge and recommendations. The kitchen and common areas were kept clean by friendly staff and the guests and staff all appeared happy and relaxed in their environment. We would highly recommend this lovely guest house to all travellers who want to sleep well, save money and be a short walk to the main attractions. Our host also allowed us to park our car for free whilst on Magnetic Island which was immensely appreciated. Thanks so much Fran. Can't wait to visit again and recommend you to all other travellers.
