65kmph winds forecasted led to us ditching our plans to camp in Coffin Bay NP and booking in for two nights at The Tumby Bay Hotel this long weekend, as part of our six week road trip around SA. 

We had the loveliest time in and around Tumby Bay in general, and so enjoyed our stay at Joe & Chars’ place. What amazing hosts and publicans, with a great team supporting them. The food in the restaurant was fab, the bar was full of friendly locals each night and the room comfortable, clean and warm, considering the cool nights. All we could have asked for and needed really. 

Thanks again to the folks at The Red Roof. We would totally return.

Fab fun weekend at ‘The Red Roof’

Great food, clean and spacious restaurant and really friendly staff…

Definitely recommend this place. Lamb back straps were amazing and nice selection of wines.

Good honest food with a good amount of choice on the menu from butter chicken, asian noodles, lasagna and steaks. 

Lasagna was so good hubby had it 2 nights in a row :)

Great food

We stayed in the Seafront Apartments which look over Tumby Bay. The apartments have uninterrupted  sea views of the bay.  Accommodation was clean and very comfortable for a family of 5 with the convenience of being located near the Tumby Bay Hotel, Tumby Bay Bakery and adjacent to a seafront cafe. The apartment also comes with off street parking. While in Tumby Bay do yourself a favour a try the steak sandwich at The Tumby Bay Hotel, best steak sandwich in SA!  

Seafront Apartments with fantastic views

We had drinks and tea here recommended by friends on our trip around the Eyre Peninsular. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and our meal was absolutely divine. Definitely will come back when in the area.

Enjoyable evening

Just recently had my 60th birthday party there. Joe and Charmain , the publicans, made sure everything ran smoothly and they provided a great space to enable me to celebrate with family and friends . Nothing was too much trouble and the cheese platters and food drops throughout the night were of great quality.

Great local pub with great service and food

Enjoyed a very nice dinner for our two friends and ourselves. The service was excellent, had a good choice of specials, fellas found that the beer was a little expensive to what they were use to paying.

Evening dinner for four

We arrived in Tumby Bay by yacht to meet some friends and continue our travels to Cowell further along the Eyre Peninsual.

Within 2 minutes of entering the main bar of the hotel, we were engaged by the very entertaining barman 'Ben', who is a real character and extremely professional.

Within 20 minutes, the owner Joe had introduced himself to us, obviously aware that we were travelling on a yacht.  "Help yourself if you need a shower" he kindly offered, at no time requesting payment.  Wow... what a great country hotel I thought!

We did take advantage of Joe's offer of a shower.... extremely modern, clean and tidy, with excellent facilities all round.... The best (especially when you havent had a shower for a couple of days)

The staff are extremely professional and our meal was fantastic... very promptly delivered to our table within about 10 minutes.  Excellent presentation too!

5 days later, we were returning to Adelaide, but due to very rough weather, we side-tracked to Tumby Bay again to seek shelter in the wide bay there.  Due to our excellent service, we returned to the Tumby Bay Hotel, where Ben remembered our names and again provided jovial service to the highest level (you don't find service like this in most small country towns)

Joe remembered us, and offered us a room at the hotel "if you want to sleep on land for a night".

I cannot recommend the staff and business highly enough.

Let Ben entertain you (he is a very funny guy but and excellent and very professional barman).

A beautiful old world charm hotel. Staff are very friendly and attentive. The meals were great and in particular the Apple & Blackcherry crumble with Boysenberry ice cream & rum syrup was sensational. The best pub meal we’ve had on the Eyre peninsular. Highly recommend the Red Roof lager.

Had two nights here staying in a first floor room comfortable and clean. And staff very helpful addressing any  concern. The food in the restaurant was also fabulous a cut above normal pub grub. The pub is right on the beach front and well worth a stay

Friendly management

Lovely renovated historic hotel; nice and friendly staff.  Only complaint is we had a little poodle in our group and it was howling windy and we were forced to eat in the smoking enclosure.

Tried to stay outside but it was way too cold .  Disappointing we couldn’t use the beer garden area
