This charming guesthouse was once one of many pubs in the small hilltown of Walcha. It still has many of the old features and fittings making it a living museum. Then amongst this are real museum pieces, largely along the theme of motorcycling. It is set amongst a beautiful garden and features quirky sculptures throughout. The friendly owners run a bar/cafe downstairs and serve a great breakfast.

In summary: it’s a wonderful place to stay or visit, it really is.

Fun, friendly and comfortable guesthouse.

This is a charming hotel and pub. Long a favourite of motorcyclists we stayed in the accomodation after riding the Oxley Highway. The rooms are comfortable and there is a common lounge leading onto a balcony for residents.
What’s sets the hotel apart is the great service and friendly owner who goes out of her way to make you comfortable. Food is great as well.
So many accomodation places are bland and characterless so it’s great to find good country hospitality.

Great country hotel and Pub

Spent a night here with a group of mates. Love this place, top staff, great atmosphere and great little bar and bistro. The art work around the place is also fab. Friendly bunch and great location. Will visit again.

Great stay

We stayed at The Royal for a night on our way to Wollongong.  The room was comfortable.  A good basic old style pub accommodation.  Toni's hospitality was excellent; telling us a few things about the town; possible option for dinner that night.

A Good Night

I loved this place, we had a deluxe double, room 4, it was like stepping back in time, really beautiful.  Beds super comfy and warm.  Great to have a bar fridge, stocked if you need it, kettle and tea and coffee and a hand basin.  It is shared bathroom, but that was no drama at all, great shower pressure! really friendly staff and great coffee etc down stairs at the cafe.

Home away from home

I was lucky enough to find this accommodation at the last minute recently  on a Saturday afternoon after a long day's ride. Our host was extremely accommodating. The room was comfortable and quiet for a good night's sleep. We had a sunset drink on the balcony before dinner and an awesome breakfast with my friends in the morning. The decor is amazing and there are plenty of places to sit and relax on your own. I would definitely stay here again.

Great overnight stay in Walcha

We stayed one night in Walcha on our way to Armidale. We were able to stay in the little cottage behind the pub. Toni phoned us while we were still traveling and gave us specific directions. When we arrived at 10.30pm the fire was going and the cottage was warm. We toasted the raisin bread Toni had left and jumped into cosy beds. We had breakfast in the Royal Cafe. The motorcycle memorabilia was fantastic as was the metalwork sculptures made by Toni’s partner. This is a great place to stay.

Warm accommodation and great breakfast 

The accommodation, over the cafe, is very comfortable. Converted from an old pub, rooms are in the pub style and have been spruced up. Even though my room faced onto the highway, there was no traffic noise. Most noise came from the three or four Harley riders who stayed up late on the balcony drinking. Rooms come in a variety of styles, so it is worth chatting to the owners to pick the right room for you. Shared bathrooms were clean and spacious too. Service was excellent. Motorcyclists have access to lock up sheds and a car port to provide cover for the motorcycles.

Comfortable hotel on the main road

We stopped here on a road trip around the New England region having heard great things. We weren’t disappointed. It’s a charming pub-style hotel with lots of nice touches like off-street undercover parking for bikes, a longe with a well stocked minibar and free tea, coffee & bikies for guests, a cafe offering hearty breakfasts to see you on your way, and eclectic decorations in every nook and cranny. Comfortable accommodation and frirndly staff too.
