We booked 2 cottages for my husband’s 70th birthday. There were 13 of us and found we had plenty of room to spread out as they were both very well equipped. It is well situated with the beach opposite and the cafe literally metres away where you can buy a small selection of groceries as well as meals.
Unfortunately our weather was a bit unkind but the brave went swimming and we had long walks.
They seem to have thought of everything you may need for a getaway with good heating and lots of bedding.
I forgot shampoo and conditioner which they didn’t supply but did have a hairdryer.
There is so much to see and do on Bruny so make sure you spend a couple of nights.
I would definitely recommend Bruny Beachside.

Family getaway

If your idea of a holiday is staying in a place that oozes rustic charm framed by the majesty of endless sunsets, nature and the ocean, then the Red Gate Cottage at Dennes Point is the place for you. 

This little gem is not flash but the minute you arrive, you are drawn in by its charm and ability to speak to you of times spent by families before enjoying hot summers in cool waters and frosty winters cuddling around the fireplace. It has a gorgeous feel of honesty and happiness. 

The cottage is clean and comfortable and I think the fact that the furniture and decor is old and yesteryear actually adds to its charm. Mod cons include a flatscreen TV (good selection of DVDs) and good music system which is great 

The main bedroom has a lovely soft bed, crisp linen and heated mattress covers for chilly nights. You can relax on the bed and enjoy the endless ocean views and the sunsets are breathtaking. 

There is a lovely fireplace and good supply of chopped firewood ready to go together with what's needed to build a fire. A pantry with the basics was also a nice touch adding to the homeliness of the place. 

Gorgeous beach walks every evening with skies painted colours and a glass of Tassie wine every evening will linger long for us. 

Be mindful that Dennes point is about 40mins drive from Adventure Bay in the South where the boat tours depart from and also a good supply store. We knew that and were attracted to the isolation of the place that offered as the peacefulness that we needed. 


Rustic beachside charm at Red Gate Cottage, Dennes Point

We stayed at Nebraska with three grandchildren and 7 adults.  Accommodation was well set-out and was clean...  The location was fabulous being right on the beach, and the owner was very accommodating.  Just a couple of things though, we stayed in mid-winter and there were a couple of heaters in two of the bedrooms which were OK.  However there were two bar heaters in the lounge room which were incredibly dangerous with three children.  I had to make sure they did not go anywhere near the heater, and had to take off a net skirt.  It would make much more sense to install  split system heating which would accommodate both heating and cooling. Those heaters are not safe at all.   And unfortunately, but two of the smoke alarms went off at 6am on the morning we were leaving...  that is poor maintenance.  Smoke alarm batteries should be changed every 3 months in a holiday rental - it certainly spoiled our last day there.  The cleaners should also be checked, as I found a pair of socks and some undies which obviously belonged to a previous guest. Also, not the owner's fault, the only shop near us was closed until September! lucky we had enough supplies (in fact too much as we had to leave some food). Otherwise we all had a lovely time as it was great just to have a holiday with our whole family.  We had originally gone to try and see the southern lights, but not only was the Neck Lookout closed (!), but it was a full moon... Oh well.  This was a good stay, but I think next time we would go to the south Bruny Island.

Lovely stay with 10 of us easily accommodated

It was clean. Quiet and beautiful location.  It closes to Bruny hotel (about few minutes drive). It has very comfy lounge seats. You can park your car right in front of the door. I recommend to bring your own breakfast so you can sit back and relax in the morning.  

Lovely location 

Acting on advice from friends and with no prior knowledge of Bruny Island, we found ourselves at Dennes Beach on the northern tip of the north island of Bruny. Dennes Beach we discovered, is somewhat isolated although a sizeable little village in its own right. Difficulty for us was that we stayed for 2 days in the first week after the Christmas season only to find that the only source of supplies, the local gallery come store, had begun its off-season opening schedule and was closed on the two days of our visit. None -the -less,  the accomodation was extremely comfortable and really well designed and equipped for family holidays. The issue of not having a local store to walk to was exacerbated by the fact that the nearest store of any sort was at the ferry terminal, some 11 kilometres of dirt road away. I decided not to walk for the paper each morning! Bad timing for us I suppose, but even if the gallery/store was available I should think that cost wise you would want to buy most of you supplies in the mainland before catching the ferry. Really enjoyed the comfort of Bruny Beachside accomodation, but just felt a little isolated.
