Highly recommended place to stay in the beautiful Hunter region. We stayed in the picturesque 'Athol cottage' for a weekend getaway. The accommodation was stunning, beautifully decorated and the personal touches enhanced the country magic. The breakfast packages were a must have on the surrounding verandah and thoroughly enjoyed - absolutely delicious.

Best accommodation in the Hunter

We had been looking at this property for a while before booking and are so glad we did. It's a hidden gem of a place, incredible serene and peaceful. The accommodation was extremely well equipped, and presented. The finishing touches made you feel special and cared for. A lot of thought has gone in to this experience and you can see it in every corner. The hosts were friendly and attentive without being too present. Easy drive from Sydney. A perfect weekend getaway for us - we will most certainly be back.

A perfect weekend getaway

We arrived on a hot sunny afternoon, had a beautiful cheese platter brought to us, and then relaxed in the pool. The ‘dairy’ where we stayed was perfect - a large balcony, spa pool, and great amenities. It’s nice to go to bed and wake up hearing all the wildlife and birds outside... it’s a very peaceful place to stay. My only advice is to plan less activities in the Hunter so you can stay in and really relax and enjoy Blair Athol :) 

A little slice of heaven

We absolutely loved our short stay in the Dairy house at Blair Athol in Wollombi. What a delightful pretty property. We enjoyed looking out from our veranda over the valley and watching the cows and wildlife. 

We were equally impressed with the quality and quantity of the food and drinks supplied. The cheese platter was delicious 😋. 

The hosts were very friendly and welcoming and had no problem with communication booking via booking.com. 

The house was clean, adequately well equipped with all the necessities one needs and nicely decorated with modern comfortable furniture. 

The swimming pool was unfortunately still undercover however we did have our own hot tub to soak in. 

Overall - a very beautiful property with wonderful amenities and facilities which make a getaway from Sydney a wonderful experience. It’s an easy 2 hr drive from the city. Take the tourist route 33 for a more pleasurable drive. 

Hidden gem 💎! 

I am attaching all correspondence to and from these people, you will see for yourselves what they done to me weeks before our stay. I have since rung to speak to the owner but I was told by "Karen" that the owner Melinda was well aware of the emails sent to me and they welcomed and allowed this behaviour from their director called Tennille Hogan. I am also in contact with fair trade as this is nothing short of bullying and disgusting behaviour.

We had the pleasure of spending 4 nights in Little Dairy. We absolutely loved it here. 

The tranquility of the place, the beautiful green surroundings and the wildlife made our day. Watching kangaroos from the pool was a new experience. 

Also, the hosts Patrick and Melinda were wonderful. They made us feel more than welcome and went out of their way to give us a truly memorable experience.  

We’d love to go back some day. 

Wonderful place

Gosh when you experience a perfect slice of nature in such luxury, it’s hard to find the best words. If you are lucky to be thinking of going, then let me tell you, you’ll know your clever to book immediately. Everything about our escape was served to perfection. I’m still dreaming about those delicious hand made chocolates... It’s a 10/10 experience for everything. THANK YOU to our hosts for opening their beautiful property to the public 🌸♥️🌈

Shhhhhhhh!!🧘‍♀️ I should keep this place a secret ☺️

This truely is the hidden gem of the Hunter Valley. Our hosts were very accomodating and welcoming, the food was fantastic and the grounds are beautiful. This is the perfect location for a weekend break.

An unbelievable stay

We wanted to get away form it all for a short break  and now wish we had booked for longer! 
The Estate is family owned and operated and we felt at home from the first minute we arrived. Taneela and Amanda worked with my partner to customise some packages for us and i must say ... Exceptional Job..cheese platter on arrival, wine, BBQ spit by the pool  with Home made dinner & dessert (by Chef Mum!), sunset picnic at Caines Point with more cheese platters and wine , Winery tour ( four local boutique wineries)  and a gorgeous lunch at one of the best restaurants in the area. These ladies know their stuff! 
The cabin was very clean, two fridges equiped with breakfast goodies, and wine. A  beautiful spa area and  NO phone reception! 
Fantastic views, and a great relaxing atmosphere, not too far from Sydney! 
We will definitely be visitng again.

Great Escape ......!!

My wife and I chose to stay at Blair Athol for a post-New Year getaway from the kids.

Blair Athol is a few kilometres up the Narone Creek Road from Wollombi Road and as soon as you hit the dirt road (and lose your mobile signal), you get the feel of seclusion.  The property sits in a beautiful valley and is a working farm.  Apart from the cows and horses, there is plenty of wildlife including kangaroos which roam the property.  The property features two accommodation buildings (The Dairy, The Homestead and Athol Cottage) as well as a pool pavilion which has a bar area, deck chairs and a sauna.  For those who can't go without a connection to the real world, there is free WiFi at the pool pavilion.

We chose to stay in the Athol Cottage which was I would best describe as rustic country luxury. The timber cottage was beautifully decorated and featured a comfy combined lounge, dining and kitchen area, a well appointed bedroom (with VERY comfortable bed), nice bathroom with combined bath / shower, heated spa and wrap-around porch.  The cottage featured Foxtel TV, air-conditioning, woodfire heater and a complimentary mini-bar.  The cottage also has its own golf buggy to zoom around the property.

We arrived early evening and were greeted with a cheese board and bottle of local sparkling wine (yum!).  We also ordered the DIY pizzas which came with an assortment of ingredients and a bottle of local wine (again, yum!).  Breakfast was DIY with a range of local ingredients including tasty sausages, bacon, bread, eggs, cereal, yoghurt and other condiments.  We had booked a massage for 10am but, unfortunately, the external provider had car trouble and had to cancel.  We were promised a refund which was provided before we returned home.  That evening, we ordered the Spit Roast / Bonfire Experience.  Due to the weather conditions, the bonfire wasn't possible (middle of summer with very dry conditions) but the experience was amazing.  We kicked it off with a cheeseboard on our porch, ate a sumptuous beef spit roast with all the trimmings by the pool pavillion and we were then driven to Kaine's Point - a lookout high above the property - for dessert and after-dinner drinks while being treated to a romantic sunset!

The service from the staff was understated, yet friendly and attentive.

All in all, we had a wonderful, relaxing stay at Blair Athol.  If you're looking to get away from the stresses of life while indulging in rustic country luxury, I'd highly recommend it
