We are wishing we had the time to stay more than one night! We had a three bedroom apartment with well-appointed kitchen with dishwasher, comfy beds, nice shower, a wrap-around balcony with a view to die for, good tv reception, lovely flowers everywhere, and door front parking. The finishes  and decorations were hand crafted and tasteful, and the landlady's daughter spoke great English. There were two grocery stores nearby, and it was a great spot from which to visit the fairy tale village of Hallstatt. The only drawback was that the rental fee was requested in cash, no credit cards accepted, and we prefer to travel with minimal cash. All told, a great stay.

Charming Countryside Guesthouse

My sister and I stayed here for a couple of nights - we were able to get the train easily from Salzburg and we're visiting for the krampus run. The apartment was homely and plenty enough space for the two of us. It could have done with a clean (it was quite dusty!) but this did not take away from our stay at all. Some people have complained about this because of the separate cleaning charge, but really it's still an inexpensive place to stay. 
Hosts didn't really speak to us which is great if you don't like small talk in a language you don't speak which suited me fine!! I am sure she would have been very helpful had we needed her!! We weren't given maps or any local info which might have helped though as everything seemed to be constantly closed and we didn't know why, which made eating a bit difficult as we couldn't find an open restaurant and the shops were all closed despite us checking the opening hours. 
There are towels but you might prefer your own as they are quite old and some basic utensils in the kitchen for cooking but plenty of cups and crocks. 
The place itself is in beautiful  surroundings and our apartment meant we could watch the sunrise over the mountains. Short walk to the town square and easy to get a train to ischl or hallstatt. Would stay here again. 

Good value no frills apartment

Booked a 2 bedroom apartment for a night. What we got was 2 rooms on the top floor, shared with another room. One bedroom had no bathroom. A toilet was located on the top landing (not sure who all we were sharing with?!). In the other room you walked through the bedroom into a small kitchenette with the shower next to the fridge, no other toilet..and that supposedly qualified as an apartment. We were given one toilet roll and had to get our own as there wasn't anymore available and we weren't sure how many people were using the toilet.

The hostess spoke no English which made asking about payment difficult. Booking.com said they would take a 25% deposit, so we couldn't confirm that. We were also locked out of the house when we got back at 21:30 and had to ring the front door bell for access.

The wifi was non existent. The tv's in the rooms did not work and even though booking.com stated we would be charged a €30 cleaning fee, there were cobwebs everywhere and hair in the shower. The towels were old and had been liberated from a holiday inn! No shower mat so we ended up using the kitchen map, to avoid wetting the whole floor. The room we stayed in also had the owners clothes still in the cupboards. Curtains were very thin and the sun shone in from about 6 am. No wine glasses in the apartment, only 4 mismatched small drinking cups. Poor water pressure in the shower.

This review may sound very negative but we booked it based on a score of 8 on booking.com which it definitely isn't. More like 6.5! Very disappointed by the "apartment" layout which had to be shared with other people. If I had wanted a hostel I would've booked one. When we paid, the €30 cleaning fee was reduced to €10, likely from previous complaints.

Positives were the beds were clean and relatively comfortable. Located about 30 mins from Hallstadt. You can walk to the Spar 5 mins down the road. There was parking outside, some outdoor tables and chairs. Perhaps the other rooms are better but don't book the upstairs 2 bedroom apartment if you are a family.
