The Best Wurstsalat I've had in a long time. Traditional Austrian cuisine is fantastic almost everywhere, so the bar is already set high. I love how the Austrians make food with love. The atmosphere is friendly and casual. We stopped on our bike trip from Linz to Vienna. A definite highlight.

Rustic and friendly.

I wish I could give a fair review of this guesthouse, but I didn’t even make it through the door. After finally making it to Durnstein via plane, train and bus and rolling my bag across the cobblestones through town, I rang the buzzer and waited for several minutes before a woman came on the intercom in German. I tried in my elementary German to say I have a reservation. After back and forth in German and English, she hung up. The door never opened. I knocked and knocked. Then rang the buzzer again. Finally after ten minutes of all this, the door finally opened and this very large old woman completely out of breath, clearly with health issues stands in the doorway. I saw my name on one of her reservation papers, so I pointed at it. She looked at it and then at me and says a bunch of stuff in German that I could not entirely understand. I motioned to go in so I could check in. But she would not get out of the door, just kept yelling at me. Maybe someone with better German than me, will be invited inside and enjoy a stay here. As for me, I didn’t know what else to do, as I have never had this happen before. So I picked up my suitcase and left. Luckily I found another guesthouse with a vacancy and someone I could converse with who welcomed me in the door!

Don't bother if you don't speak German!

What a beautiful  place Durnstein is and the guesthouse overlooks the river. The guesthouse was even better than expected. We had one of their apartments which included a separate bedroom, living area with full kitchen and a spacious bathroom. All immaculately clean and very comfortable. Rates were very good value. They had bikes to hire which were very new and comfortable. Their own wine is available from the fridge in the entry and we tried a few different types ☺. We also ended up at Heuriger Branigan like the previous reviewer and had a great time, I have set up a new entry for them. We were there very early in the season and the ferries had not started and quite a few things were not yet open however we had plenty to see and do in our 5 days. We will certainly be back. Fantastic

We stayed in this lovely family owned B&B for two nights.  The rooms are spacious and very clean, and the family is very welcoming and friendly.  Breakfast is served downstairs and is  good.  There are no toiletries provided in the rooms, and that would be an improvement.  The family also has their own winery.  Parking is free and is under the hotel.  We chose this hotel primarily because of the cost of other hotels in this location.  We were happy with our choice. We had an excellent dinner at Hotel Sanger Blondel.  The second night we turned left out the door of the hotel and  less than half a block away found Weinbau u Heuriger Fam. Branigan.  This is a wine tavern that serves food.  The place was packed with locals, and we ended up having one of the best times of our trip.  The owner and his family are friendly and fun.  The food was quite good, and the apricot brandy was exceptional.  The Branigan family is from Great Britian.  It was one of the best finds of the trip.
Durnstein is a perfect location to see this entire area.  There are several ferries each day to go to Melk.

Excellent small hotel

Location right next to the center of this beautiful town, nice and clean rooms and great breakfast. The owners are very very nice and they also have their own vinery. Only comment is that they don't provide soap and rooms are very basic.

Great place! Great Owners!

We liked our short visit to Durnstein so much, we returned later in our September holiday and- by wandering around this charming village-  happened upon the Gasthof, which was well-located and looked good from the outside.   One rings the doorbell and is admitted by one off the family; the rate we paid was 73 euros for b/b.  The room was so clean; comfortable beds with the usual individual duvets; nice en-suite- everything was tidy and , as above, immaculate ; a minus- not really, perhaps a little impersonal was all we could manage.  The breakfast was a buffet type with enough choices and food to start one off for they day.
The previous evening, we noticed that in the hall there was a glass-fronted "honesty" cupboard with wine inside; this family grow their own stuff and very nice it is too.  Far from being over-priced, it was very fair and of good quality; a corkscrew was provided and so, as the sun was still shining, we helped ourselves and sat out  in the absolutely beautiful garden, under a vine and with a distant river view----bliss!   If only we hadn't been flying, we would have bought several bottles of wine here.
We would definitely head straight for this place again- what more can one say.
We walked for 5 minutes to the restaurant we found en-route to the recommended "special" one..Sanger Blondel.
