This old building has been restored with very good taste preserving the country-style and yet providing all comfort. Much more spacious inside as one would expect when you see the building from the outside, our room (Die Scheenkammer) was surprisingly big and spacious. Spotless clean, it had everything which was required (wardrobe, big comfortable bed, desk…). The bathroom comprised a bathtub and was equally spacious. There is a common dining room where breakfast is served that offers as well a fireplace and some comfortable chairs to enjoy. Kitchen has a proper coffee machine for guests to use and cold beverages as well as some basic snacks are kept for guest at very affordable prices in the basement. There is free WIFI in the entire house which works very well.

The guesthouse is just 15 minutes car drive from Salzburg (south) and another 15 minutes to the Trumer Seen (north). A car is definitely needed to move around but we noticed there are many biking trails in the area 

Christina is very nice host who provided us with suggestions to park in Salzburg, restaurants in the area and some places to visit (Mattsee is very nice place). She was very understanding when we had to unfortunately cut our trip short by one day when my husband got sick with fever and cold. 

This is a wonderful place to explore not only busy Salzburg while remaining in a relaxing and quite environment, but also to explore the country side around.

Worth a visit

This old mill was built in the 1500s.  It was recently renovated and is beautiful both inside and out.  It is located in a tiny hamlet outside of Elixhausen which is very quiet.  The public area is the entire first floor which is very congenial.  During our three night stay, we had picnic dinners in the spacious ground floor twice and it was delightful.  We had full access to the kitchen and the hosts encouraged us to build a fire in the wood stove if we wanted to.  There is a "mini bar" which is actually an amazing little cellar with a trap door for access!  It is fully stocked with wine, beer, soft drinks and snacks.  After a day of sightseeing in Salzburg, we couldn't wait to get back to the old mill to relax.  Our hosts were exceptionally helpful and friendly, spoke English, and made us a nice breakfast every morning.

We stayed there for two nights and were not disappointed! Great place, great location and great service :) super friendly owners, too! Heuholzmuhle is 20 min away from Zalzburg and 10 min away from awesome hiking trails of lake Matsee. Check out Matsee town, too, it's definitely worth it!
