Just got back from a week's skiing with 3 friends and had a lovely stay at Gasthof Thanner. We booked this guesthouse as it was a bit cheaper than staying in the centre of Mayrhofen, but the free ski-bus stops right outside the front door and took us straight to the lifts. The ski-bus runs once an hour - we usually got the 8:10 which took about 15 minutes. The last bus back to Brandberg was at 18.10, which was a bit early for us some nights (!), but a taxi back cost around €5 each so we were still able to enjoy some après-ski in town. On nights when we were tired it was nice to come back and enjoy the peace and quiet of the guesthouse. We had 2 rooms in the newer building which were both spacious and comfy. They were connected by a long balcony which had lovely views and seats to enjoy a few beers on. Didn't have time to look around the village itself, but it looked lovely and sleepy. The owners were really friendly and helpful, on the last day they made us an early breakfast before our taxi to the airport, and they provided plasters to help with uncomfy ski boots! Would definitely stay here again, thank you! 

A few general points:

•	The breakfast is amazing! So much food!
•	A few yummy vegetarian options available for dinner - the cheese noodles (Käsespätzle) were soooo good! They also provided a gluten-free breakfast for someone in another group. 
•	We got a direct taxi from Innsbruck airport which took just under an hour and cost €140 between us. 
•	The sauna was nice after a day's skiing - but prepare yourself for naked people!! 
•	None of us smoke but didn't find smoking to be a problem, the restaurant/breakfast room is smoke-free, and our rooms didn't smell smoky at all.
•	No tea/coffee in the rooms, but the bar made us cups of tea which we could take up with us. They also filled our thermos with tea to take up the slopes.
•	Free wifi! Just needed a code from reception – the owner said they were hoping to have cables installed in the village to make the internet faster, but we didn’t have problems doing the usual things (facebook, etc!!)

lovely friendly guesthouse

Myself and 3 friends recently spent 5 days skiing in Mayrhofen and booked Gasthof Thanner as our place of residance for the trip. Once we arrived we could see that this residence was more like a hotel than a Gasthof. From the start we were made feel very welcome by the family owners. Nothing was ever a problem. When we wanted dinner a little earlier than normal this was no problem.Likewise with an early breakfast. Drinks at the bar and watching Champions League soccer was a bonus. The only negative is that smoking is still tolerated indoors which to me and my colleagues is a no no.  We already were aware that it was a little distance outside of Mayrhofen town but also knew that it was severed well by a local bus and taxi service. The bus which is free during ski times stops right outside. Taxis cost between 15 and 25 euro depending on the number of persons travelling.  Overall Gasthof Thanner is a really great find a excellent value. I would be happy to recommend it to any families and  groups travelling to Mayrhofen

A Great Find

I was here on February and would like to say that staff is working really hard! Really it is family running hotel. They have two hotels where is restaurant and spa center. They have 3 cows and 2 hors. All family work from 5 morning till midnight!!! Hotels is really clean and new! Of course on hight season they not have to much time to talk with tourists but they do it on hight level! The people who speaks that they are do not good service it is mean that they don't understand nothing about service... This is 3 stars hotels but they do service 5 stars!!! Breakfast there was unusual big variety, you can not just try everything. They serve also dinner and quality is really good! Wine perfect and desert also. They are example for all other hoteliers in Europe!

I would like to note about distance from Mayerhofen, yes there is 8 km from Penken but skibus is stop exactly on exit from the hotel and it is free of charge! With this bus you can come to Hintertux also! If you are late for bus from Mayerhofen you can take taxi for 15 EUR and enjoy all evening in the city. Better of course if you have your own car but if not it is not so bed experience.

Nice hotel

The hotel is very nice and even if not in the centre, it takes 10 minutes by car/taxi to arrive into the centre of Mayrhofen. The rooms are spacious even if a litle bit old style but they have every comfort. The food is quite various and good especially the desserts!!!
The staff all is really nice and helpful!!!
There are differents spaces where children could play and there is also a small wellness area.
The place could be perfect but it is allowed to smoke in too many areas (not in the dining room, but there are not doors and the smell goes everywhere!!!!).
It is a pity for such beautiful place.........reccomended to smokers, especially!

A wonderful hotel but perfect only for smokers!!!

The location is up in the mountains, very far away from Mayerhofen ski area; The guys here act like you have to behave as it's your own hotel and they are not friendly staff; the breakfast is very poor; 

The good thing is that you can smoke
inside at the minibar where they serve you only if they like you;

They have no music in the restaurant and lounge; we found a TV and switched to Mtv and the boss here came and switched off the TV in the lounge bar where we listened to music;

Maybe it can be an option for families with children, no romantic stuff here.
