Well our vacation is off to a bad start all thanks to this bad hotel and its unfriendly owners. We just had one of the worst experiences at this hotel. I can confirm every bad review that everyone else wrote about this hotel. We were also greeted with strict instructions about no shoes in the house and borrowing their used slippers. Worst of all, we had a fight with the hotel owners this morning because the tv in the room stopped working last night, the signal was suddenly gone so we informed them this morning. The owner stopped us on the stairs on our way back to the room after breakfast and rudely accused us of breaking their smart tv by pressing the wrong button. He was very unfriendly to us. The lady came to our room afterwards and told us that the tv worked before but now it doesn't anymore so it must be our fault. We broke it so that there is no more signal by pressing the wrong button?! Really?! Things break and this was surely not because of pressing a button on the remote and they should just fix it without accusing the guests. We are two software engineers, we know a thing or two about how to use a tv and we are not idiots. This was actually the last drop... the room sucked, it was very small and looked bad, they didn't even put hand soap in the bathroom so we can wash our hands, the cleaning lady barged into our room at 8 in the morning without even knocking (lock your doors!), the breakfast sucked, we were given 4 bread buns on the table and had to ask them if we wanted more, there was almost no food at the buffet, we wanted to sit at a table at breakfast but we were moved to another table by the lady, we waited ages for them to bring us coffee and eggs and now this too. Needless to say that we got back to our room and called another hotel where we've been before, they had a free room so we packed our stuff and moved to the other hotel. We arrived after 18 o'clock to the hotel because they asked us to come late because their daughter had a baby so we did, and they managed to ruin this whole trip for us in just one night, in only 15 hours. We came around 19 o'clock and left at 10 on next morning. We come to Bad Hofgastein every year since 10 years and never experienced such bad service in this area or anywhere else.

Bad service and no hospitality

So at first I did like this place. Compared to what you might expect in other countries it was clean and nice enough. As the week progressed little things annoyed me but this could be similar to other accomodation in the town.
The lady of the house is a bit strange but then again austrian service was poor at best and you just have to get used to this it seems. Myself and a friend stayed for a week of ski and apres ski. room was decent enough. small bashed up tv that barely worked, bathroom was fine and towels provided. Towels were not replaced all week! Shower after 4 days started spraying everywhere and drenching the bathroom. And they stopped cleaning the room the last 2 days of our stay.
Breakfast was just about ok. Cereal and some semels with a few measly slices of cheap salami and cheese or jam and we were offered an egg 2 of the 7 days.

You are not allowed wear your shoes in the house. There is heated boot poles to hang your ski boots but regular shoes have to be just left on a shelf.
There is no bins in any of the rooms and you have to leave your rubbish in the hallways.
Location is fine. bus stop around the corner, its a 5 min walk from center of town but is uphill so if its icy be careful.

There was a nice balcony in our room with a lovely view of the mountains which was a good bonus although beds were not comfy and the pillows were pretty much non-existant. That seems to be a common issue though as friends in other larger hotels said similar.
