We stayed here after the Hotel Kammerhof could not accommodate our booking due to a "water problem" in the room.So we were advised to go to the Alpenhof Hotel! The Alpenhof gave us and our dog a warm welcome.The room was ok and the breakfast was fine.The staff were helpful and welcoming in contrast to other hotels! So good value for money and if you expect a 5 star hotel then pay 5 star prices...its simple really

Nice welcome by friendly staff

My husband and I stayed here for our Christmas "treat" 2015.   The accommodation is dated and tired.   TV out of the ark with not one English speaking channel.   Wi Fi (that has to be paid for) only works in the reception/dining/bar area but not in the bedrooms.   No tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms.   No complimentary items in the bathroom - I had to ask twice to get the soap dispenser refilled.   The food was appalling - obviously achieved on a shoe string and as cheaply as possible.   I could not even have a piece of toast as I was informed that they did not have a toaster!   Our Christmas Eve dinner consisted of noodle soup with sausage floating in it, a soggy, greasy potato cake, followed by a piece of apple strudel.   I never want to see another piece of beige food again!   I can get better quality meals at any pub chain in the UK any day of the week, let alone at Christmas.   The hotel is stuck in a time warp and not in a  good way.   It is not old and beautiful but dated and tired and they need to bring their facilities in line with the 21st Century.

The most dismal hotel I have ever stayed in

My wife and I stayed here for Christmas 2015 with Angela coaches.
This was our first trip with this company and we were one of the last pick ups, nearly everybody knew each other from previous trips so we took that as a recommendation in itself.
We arrived at the hotel in the afternoon and quickly got our room keys,room 27 on the first floor.
This room was about 16x9ft which included a small ensuite.
The lighting was terrible, nothing brighter than a 30 watt bulb, my wife couldn't see to put in or take out her contact lenses and in fact lost one.
The bedroom had a small wardrobe with three hangers and two shelves, inadequate 
Two 3ft beds (almost okay) but not good quality
2 hard back chairs, alright for storage but not comfortable at all
A bedside cabinet between the beds with a drawer ( okay)
The carpet was poor quality, but as this was a walking area it probably got a lot of punishment so okay apart from the bleach stains.
Along side the beds were 2 strip lights built under a shelling area, guessing the light was between 20/30 watt, again very poor
The main overhead light was to low and the lampshade prevented the 20/30 watt bulb from lighting the room properly.
The small radiator worked and the room was always warm
The bathroom, had a washbasin, shower and toilet, a complete lack of storage facilities, everything had to be left in the wash bags, there was a hand wash soap dispenser by the washbasin.....and a plug appeared after a few days
No soap etc in the shower, the towels were only face towels not bath towels far to small.
If you were sitting on the toilet your legs prevented any one else access.
The shower itself was quite powerful, but cheap plastic screens with cracked panels
There was a radiator here and it was okay but drying issues for the towels
The room had 2 tilt and turn double glazed windows 1 in the bedroom and a smaller 1 in the bathroom, best part of the room.
The hallway lighting was on a timer, which barely gave you time to unlock your room....a sensor would of been better.
The dining room was good, spacious and with comfortable chairs for dining, but with no lounging area, these proved to be uncomfortable in the long term.
The food was extremely poor, the breakfast and dinner menus were bland, and for the packed lunch you had 1 ham and cheese roll a kinder wafer bar and an apple or orange drink........the same each day.....no variety at all.
On the lower floor there was a pool, sauna,pool table, darts etc, 
I like to see steam rising from the water personally so I am not qualified to give an opinion here, but other guests did use these facilities.

Hotel???

Stayed here for seven nights as part of a coach party. First impressions were not overwhelming but to be fair they don't always count. This was the case here. It appears to be a family affair with mother recently passing the business onto her son. The room we had was on the first floor which could be accessed by either stairs or lift. Very clean spacious room with comfortable bed and a equally large bathroom with efficient shower. The downside here was the meals. Breakfast was the usual continental scrummage affair which was ok. The evening meal left a lot to be desired. The daily routine was a serve yourself soup with an optional salad bar. The main courses were,on the whole,pretty bland. Clearly the kitchen department had to cater for a largish party but have to say not very successfully.

Some Good,Some Not So

We stayed there for five days (all-inclusive package) in May 2015, and it, indeed, was a pleasurable stay. 

Here I must mention that we accepted this accommodation not by choice – the four-star hotel we booked through a travel agency got suddenly unavailable (we did get a compensation from the travel agency though).

It was the best alternative option we could get – the circumstances nearly forced us to accept it, as we pre-arranged meeting our friends in Germany prior and after the trip and our American friends doing their Europe tour.

Here I must say that we do NOT regret it. Alpenhof Mariastein Hotel staff was totally non-intrusive, but extremely helpful when needed. Hotel is very clean, has a quite good sauna, and even a small pool and an infrared health-stimulating cabin. 

Some previous reviewers complained about breakfast, but to our opinion, for a three-star hotel the breakfast was rather rich. We enjoyed the variety of meet/ham/sausage slices plus poultry spreads; different types of hard cheeses plus the choice of the soft ones; cereals, choice of yogurts and juices; range of jams, vegetables, fruits, hard/soft (boiled to one’s preferences) eggs; fresh bread assortment, coffee, and the choice of teas…

I cannot comment on lunch/snack (we were out exploring wonderful Tyrol) but we had managed (unfortunately, only twice) to get back to the hotel for the afternoon tea/coffee break and really took pleasure in tasting the selection of homemade Austrian pastry.

The four-course-dinner (although it was not the top of Austrian cuisine) was remarkably tasty; the menu included: 
•	Soup of the day (yummy)
•	Rather modest (but very fresh) salad bar
•	Main course (one could choose between vegetarian or meat-of-the day dish)
•	And a wonderful Austrian desert (different desert every day)

I gave this hotel all available rating-stars not because I have not seen better (honestly, I do not know what the three star service includes). However, considering the comfort and care we received (almost a four-star hotel service) I think that people who run the place and work there do deserve a word of acknowledgement. 

Enjoyable relaxing stay – highly recommended
