Just back from my second holiday at Villa Margarethe.  What can I say it was fantastic, so well equipped from a beautiful swimming pool, badminton court and trampoline for the children to a bottle opener - it had everything you wanted and more.A beautiful Bbq area and terrace to sit and enjoy the garden whilst drinking your prosecco -can't wait to go back.

Simply the best !!

We stopped for a night while travelling through Austria but we had such a warm welcome in beautiful surroundings and so stayed an extra night; sunbathing, swimming & relaxing in the private lakeside garden. Incredibly helpful hostess going above & beyond to warn us of road closures as we left & providing a map to help, lovely breakfasts, really good advice on where to dine. So pleased we found this motorbike friendly gem and wouldn’t hesitate to return if we’re back in this lovely part of the world; THANK YOU!

Stayed an extra night as it was so fantastic!

After weeks of of cold and rain we wanted to see some sun again. So we went to Carinthia since the weatherreport promised sun and cloudless sky for at least three or four days. As we arrived it cleared up, the clouds became less and the light drizzle stopped. We had already booked a room in the "Villa Margarethe" in Millstatt and found easily our hotel since we had looked it up in a popular maps-program. The lady of the house friendly received us in the hall and showed us our room. We were quite impressed by the size and layout of our well furnished double with a small balcony looking over the gardens.
Later on we met a couple of other guests and the gracious landlady who runs the house by herself with just some local help. A very enjoyable evening followed with a couple of beers and some Grappa watching soccer on the large telly in the hall. Now of to bed in a very quiet room with plenty of sweet smelling air from the garden for a relaxing rest in our room. I have not slept so well for a long time. Next morning after a continental breakast to see some of the local sights and drive around the lake. We took our lunch on an "Almhütte" called "Lammersdorfer Alm" at about 4500 feet elevation overlooking the wide valley with the lake with a backdrop of high mountains south towards the border to Italy. Next day we drove around a bit taking in the fantastic landscape of lower Carinthia, all mountains and smaller lakes, you seldom see so such a lush green in so many shades. Also we went over the border into Tarvisio in Italy for their renowed "Mercato" which turned out to be as many southerly markets are just a swindle. Certainly the prices are as in so many markets to be determined by haggling, but not very cheap. If its cheap its not quality, if its quality its not cheap.
A very fine trip seeing great sights and even a short swim in a still quite cool lake, yes the villa has its own private access to the lake where you find sunbeds and some shade under a tree. The friendliness of the owner and also the rest of the locals made it a very relaxed and enjoyable stay in Millstatt.

Most enjoyable stay on the lake in "Villa Margarthe"

First of all Maria the owner is so incredibly welcoming!! It's like she welcomes you into her home. We were so blessed by her hospitality and genuine concern for our needs. On our last day we had to leave early, she gave us breakfast 30 minutes earlier than the normal time so we didn't leave on an empty stomach. Then to top it off, the accommodations were first class with a million dollar view!!! We hope to come back next year!!!
