The biggest problem in this poorly-converted project is the noise. Apartments are on the street and there is some street noise but not much. There is no on site parking so your car must also be left in the street. The main problem is the lack of any insulation between apartments. You hear everything from next door and I mean everything! The apartment is like a museum, with a sort of hectic oriental feel to it. There are ornate curtains but too thin to keep the light out and none others and no shutters. It is self catering but there is no knife sharp enough even to cut a piece of bread. The fridge and freezer were not on when I arrived and the freezer had 1 cm of water in it. There is a charge of €30 for end cleaning which is just as well as no one cleaned at the beginning. I had to wipe the thick dust off the bedside table. There are fancy lights everywhere but many do not work, and the dozens of small lamps in the bathroom were mostly blown. Only three worked so shaving in the twilight is a requirement! There seems to be some air conditioning but it was not turned on and it was over 30 degrees outside, hotter inside. There is Wifi but hardly any sockets to plug the laptop into (none anywhere near the table). The bed I found comfortable and I did get some sleep despite the noise from next door. Embarrassingly if I could hear them they could hear me so I fear I snored them awake! It is all a great shame. They are nice people and are welcoming but they seem to have abandoned all commonsense and created apartments which look wonderful - or at least interesting and eclectic but are impossible to stay in. I just hope they can find a way to sort out the noise issue - and then make sure if they charge for cleaning they really do it - and for heavens sake switch on a fridge and freezer before people arrive not afterwards. Some better curtains and properly opaque blinds between the living area and the outside communal sitting area are essential. I hope they do work it out - they will sell out during the Festspiele anyway but the rest of the summer they will have to fight in a real market.
