A wonderful family run hotel, with an amazing wine collection and stunning food! The choice at breakfast allowed for a different experience every day, afternoon cake and tea/wine/beer was served from 1530 and dinner was a 5-course affair with a choice of meat, fish or veggie main every day. The chefs excelled themselves and the waiting staff were brilliant! A particular shout out to Martin and Peter in the restaurant , huge thanks to Anna for the wheelchair and all the staff (and fellow skiers- you know who you are!) for  looking after Sally with the broken leg! 

We stayed in the annexe of the hotel in one of the apartments which overlooked a ski slope. Loads of room, lovely bathroom, comfy beds and a lift down to the ski room. Additionally you can access the main hotel via the underground tunnel if you don’t want to go outside! Very close to slopes, with its own  separate very civilised (!) apres ski bar run by Karina and Marco - the Ice Man who looks after the ice rink.

A lovely hotel we’ll stay in again!

Just spent another magical Christmas at the Hotel Austria. 

All of the staff are so friendly and helpful. The food is great. The buffet breakfast sets you up for a day on the slopes and the evening meal is beautifully presented (the pastry chef is very talented).

The spa area is also very good with choice of Sauna / steam and hot tub that are adult only. The pool, indoor and outdoor is for all. 

The boot room is high quality and it is a short walk to the slope to ski to the lift. The run back to the hotel is fun!

Another magical stay...

We've just returned from spending Christmas week in this hotel in Obergurgl. We've stayed in Obergurgl many times but this is our first time here. We had a really good week. Our room, (206) was huge with a very modern bathroom that was kept spotless by the houskeeping team. The room had fantastic views over the village from the balcony.

The ski room is like new with really nice lockers and boot warmers. The lockers are secured using your room keycard. We've had skis stolen in Sallbach so this was a welcomed feature.

The spa features an indoor and outdoor pool, a jacuzi and sauna, with a seperate adults only Spa to get away from any kids. A really pleasant way to spend an hour after a day on the slopes.

The dining room has an amazing view over the maountains. Breakfast is a treat with a huge choice on offer, ommlette or fried eggs & bacon made to order or select your own from the buffet.

The evening meal is a five course delight, with plenty of choices from meat / fish / vegetarian options. The wine selection is huge!

All the team, from housekeeping through to the kitchen and service team are brilliant. The host / manager Simone runs an impressive ship and simply cannot do enough for you, such a friendly face always, she really works hard to make everything perfect.

Before booking we did read some previous reviews regarding upselling drinks at the bar and charging for tap water in the evening. I can happily say this certainly wasn't our experience. I was pleasantly surprised by our bill on checking out.

Finally, I would say this isn't the cheapest option in Obergurgl, but you get what you pay for, highly recommended in my opinion. Thanks Simone!Show less

Christmas 2023

Just got back from a week at the Hotel Austria and had an amazing time. We arrived late and were welcomed with dinner despite the restaurant being closed. Rooms are spacious & clean. Food is incredible, lots of variety and beautifully presented. A bonus is the snack provided at 3.30pm which my teenager’s really appreciated! Staff were very helpful with a typical “Austian” sense of humour. Pool area is really nice and a welcome break after a full day skiing. We have already booked again for next year - couldn’t fault it.

Fabulous hotel with amazing food, rooms & staff in a lovely resort!

Great first impression…arrived 7pm, shown straight to our room..no paperwork and invited to go for dinner before completing any paperwork. Very much appreciated after long journey, lovely big room with great view and balcony overlooking slopes. Meals were superb, beautifully presented and very tasty. Choice of meat, fish or vegetarian dish each night. Waiters were absolutely great. Very professional and also entertaining. Ski room is fantastic, big individual lockers for each room with a lift to ground floor..really well designed. Hotel is absolutely spotlessly clean. 
Spa area was lovely too…outdoor pool, sauna and waterbeds a highlight. 
Our only niggle was cost of wine..46 euros is cheapest bottle…if it had been more reasonably priced we would have had more than we did.
All in all though a fabulous well run hotel with lovely staff. highly recommend

Fabulous hotel, wonderful staff

My one and only criticism of this hotel is the cost of the wine, nothing under 45 Euros per bottle. Needs just a few choices around 30 Euros. 
Everything else was excellent especially the friendly staff and excellent food.

Excellent Stay

The Hotel Austria has a lot to offer, it has good facilities and comfortable bedrooms.  We had a triple room with Austrian style twin beds which were super comfy. The third bed is a sofa bed, so not the best for an adult, probably better suited for a child. We asked for a mattress topper to make it a little more comfortable for our third adult to sleep on.  We received a folded duvet but that did the job.  The bathroom and shower was nice enough. The tv had no signal and was  therefore useless. however we didn't bother to ask the hotel to look at it.  It was nice not to have the tv on for a whole week! 

The dining room is lovely; we were allocated a table for the week. 
 The serving staff were friendly and efficient and there were good breakfast choices from the buffet. The 5 course dinner every night was amazing! What fantastic chefs the hotel employs - to offer up such beautiful dinners, but the desserts stole the show every evening -  what a talented lady the Pastry Chef is.
The swimming pool and spa (which is shared with the Bellevue Hotel) is lovely and a great place to relax and recharge after the ski day although the pool is noisy at times, so the spa room is the place to go for some quiet time.  (No swimsuits allowed in there though). 
The boot room was warm dry and spacious, with a locker allocated for every room.  Its not quite ski out, as you need to do a bit of punting to get to the lift but its close enough. And skiing home is a breeze although you need to be careful not to pass your turn off on the way back as its a hefty walk uphill if you do! 

 Although the staff were pleasant we didn't find the management very friendly, despite other reviews stating otherwise.  They choose who they would speak to and who to ignore and whether this was intentional or not it still feels rather rude.  This is our fourth trip to Austria and this is the first time we have experienced this, we normally find Austrian hospitality very warm and welcoming.  So that despite the lovely hotel and facilities we never really felt welcome.
Drinks are very expensive and there are no tea making facilities in the room so a cup of tea will set you back around 4 euros. A small glass of  wine (125ml) is around 9 euros.  But the biggest issue I have is the 3 euros they charge for a carafe of tap water.  This  feels just a little greedy.  When I asked about this charge I was informed that 'all Austrian hotels charge for tap water' -  we have never encountered this charge on prior trips to the country.  So I do suggest you bring a bottle you can fill from your bathroom tap - which is what we did.
If I could give this Hotel 3.5 stars I would as it has such good facilities - just those few issues were the spoiler for us but it would be unfair to drop it to 3 stars. 

Lovely hotel but...

What a lovely week in Obergurgl ! This hotel is truly ski in and out.  The rooms are large and very clean. The staff are very warm and welcoming . Food is fantastic. Afternoon tea and the swimming pool were  highlights ! Thank you to all the staff ! 

Lovely hotel

We visited in January 2023. A superb hotel with great facilities and excellent staff who provide an attentive and friendly service. The food is exceptionally good. The leisure facilities are shared with the neighbouring Bellevue hotel, which is also superb. Highly recommended

Superb

What an absolutely amazing hotel. Arrived NYE, food from the gala dinner to the packed breakfast when we left was exceptional. Every meal, even the afternoon tea was gourmet standard, and delicious.
Rooms were clean, spacious and well located. Boot room was never super busy, the spa a real luxury with waterbeds, outdoor pool, jacuzzi and dedicated adults area too.
The ski in, ski out was good too. An ice rink opposite the hotel for those that fancied.
The staff were really friendly, don’t let the receptionist lady (with long dark hair) who can not smile but is really helpful, put you off, as everyone else smiled, joked and made you feel really welcome.

Tips:
If you are travelling with crystal ski, do not liaise with them on anything to do with lessons go direct to the ski school office!

Ask for another pillow on arrival you will need it

Check your invoice each morning, we had random items such as expensive wine or champagne added to ours in error, no issue having it removed but worth checking carefully.
