I stayed at Pension Helmhof earlier this month and it was wonderful. It's a bit of a hike from the center,  but I enjoyed the escape from the tourists. If you don't have a car, there's a bus and a train that stop nearby. The rooms are large and immaculate, the bed was super comfortable, and I had a lovely balcony. The breakfast was scrumptious -- there were even fresh eggs from the chickens on the property and homemade jam. The people who run the place were kind and helpful.  The only caveat is that the two inns with restaurants in the area close very early on Sunday night (6pm) and are closed on either Monday or Tuesday, or both. So, as there's no place to eat in the vicinity, one would have to go back to town.

Lovely b&b beyond the tourist mob

First of all, please don't believe the one star review previously posted.   Our stay was so wonderful.  Andrea was the perfect hostess and our room and breakfast were perfect. The room was very spacious and the breakfast was plentiful.    We also received the included "Salzburg Card" which was ideal for buses and visiting the wonderful places in the City of Salzburg for free!   We were fortunate enough to have snow when we were there for the Christmas markets which made it look like a Christmas card.  Do not hesitate to go here,  it is peaceful and on the edge of the city but near to many wonderful places.

Discovered no A/C and it was 80 degrees!

Bed was very uncomfortable. Back very sore. Mattress old. Had to sleep on the floor. 😖
No elevator! Pack light! Good workout. 
Pillows were flat! 🧗‍♀️
Room was clean. Safe. Needs some refurbishing! 
I read old reviews. Say the same things. They’ve made no changes based on reviews apparently. 🫏
Saw laundry room open. Mistakenly used it! Ouch. Andrea came after me and said it was logical that I should have known not to use it. “The machine could break. You have to pay me 10€!” I admitted my mistake and got a lecture. 🧟‍♀️
Breakfast was nice. I saw many complaints on reviews but they gave high ratings?? I’m trying to “go with the flow.” Our hotel and staff in Vienna were so awesome! Such a contrast.

Never again!

Beautiful typical Austrian small hotel. Warm cosy, beautiful big room which gas just been modernised. Breakfast was varied and plenty. Andrea and family very nice and welcoming. Easy transport into Salzburg centre by trolley bys. Andrea explained everything very well. Hope to be back in summer. Thank you. 

Wonderful Pension

We stayed two nights in September at this hotel, while visiting Salzburg. It is located near the motorway so quite convenient when driving, while you can reach the city centre in about 10/15minutes with the local bus on the main road.

Our room and bathroom were spacious and clean, with traditional Austrian style furniture, which is quite frugal. Our room on the top floor had also a nice balcony with view over the internal garden. There is a swimming pool which can be used by guests (depending on weather and season of course).

Breakfast is served in the main house (the complex is made of three different buildings) with typical Austrian choices of pastries, fruit, beverages, etc. 

Staff are welcoming and polite: though guests were recommended to wear masks indoor, staff weren't (at the time of our visit). Hand sanitisers were provided at the entrances of all buildings.

Overall a pleasant and affordable stay in Salzburg.

Traditional Austrian guesthouse

I booked with little notice and few options left in Salzburg.  Location was handy for the football stadium (15 minute walk) and getting into town was easy enough by bus.  Lovely and quiet area with no noise.  Good breakfast and option to eat outside. 

A pleasant surprise, I got lucky.

I stayed with my husband and 2 teenage children for 3 nights over the new year. We stayed in 2 spacious double rooms next to each other, both with a balcony.
Rooms were clean and comfortable with large beds and extra blankets.
Breakfast was a good choice of breads, croissants, cold meats, cheeses, eggs, juice and plenty of fresh tea and coffee.
Andrea and her family were friendly and helpful (and English speaking!)
Buses into Salzburg were every 20 mins and a 5 min walk from the guesthouse.
Our friends stayed in a room with a kitchenette which was handy for making snack and hot drinks.
