We went up by car (of course) because it is quite a walk (not for those who are not accustomed hiking) to get there. But it is worth going there. The waitress (probably the owner) is more than friendly and being served is a joy.
Drinks come quickly and the food is well prepared. I had the "Zwiebelrostbraten", and mij wife the "Cordon Blue Pute" ( turkey).... we highly appreciate he quality of the dish and the quantity was even "higher". We went back to our B & B with a stuffed an satisfied feeling. Go there,...you won't regret it.

The lovely pension resides on the hill above Sankt Jakob. It is a very lovely house, with a very nice and warm owners. Note that car is required. 
The rooms are very nice, comfortable and clean. Breakfast was standard (coffee, orange juice from cans, bread, ham, cheese, confiture and yogurt) and quite satisfying. The view from the room was very nice if the room has Sankt Jakob view. 
We had dinner at the restaurant and we enjoyed it very much. The food was good as well as the atmosphere.
We were at the pension for 2 nights, went hiking and got back for a third night. Coming back felt like returning home - we got a very warm welcome.
One withdraw was that you have to carry your luggage up the stairs to your room (no elevator). We are young and did it, but it is not trivial for older people (although I'm sure the owners will help).
