Great location by the lake, right off center of Velden, near Velden Castle. Lovely hotel with very welcoming and accommodating owner and friendly staff. The rooms are very clean and although right by the "Seecorso" quiet. The owner architect kept much of the original furniture, while updating and adding some vintage pieces. Mattress on the hard side, but very comfortable. The bathrooms are small, but stylish and functional  and newly renovated. (My only "complaint" - if any -  would be the water pressure in the very nice and spacious shower. They even thought to have a hook for your towel in the shower! :) There is a deck with lake access and a great roof top sauna with a few loungers as well. Bicycles are available for use. Hotel has its own locked parking in walking distance. Would return any time.

Lovely Hotel right by the lake

Velden in High Season (mid-August) can be a challenge indeed: a packed lake front, extra-high prices and debatable service quality. 
With Hotel Ogris, we had made a lucky choice: their small separate bathing deck on the lake was large enough to easily accommodate all guests, who were in for a swim. The cleverly architected building combines the original house with well-designed extensions. Rooms are quiet and tastefully furnished with a touch of Fifties' elegance. The grandiose lake view offered from our room and its balcony almost made us forget about the large flat screen TV with its rich selection of digital channels. 
Service really makes the difference! Owners and personnel alike met us in the most friendly and helpful attitude. It was a pleasure meeting service staff at the breakfast buffet and order the extra fried egg - and this was mid-August! That's why we didn't take advantage of the wellness area / sauna that are also offered.

Family Ambiente in Perfect Location - Even During High Season

Four of us stayed for five nights in July 2014. This is a medium-sized, family run hotel right across the street from the promenade and the lake - and the street is not busy, just used to access nearby properties. One key advantage for older guests is that it is one of few hotels in the area with an elevator. We were greeted by the owner's parents and the owner paid personal attention to the guests during breakfast. She even noticed my father's birthday and served us champagne. The breakfast buffet was very good, fresh, and abundant, including eggs cooked to order. The rooms are big, the bathrooms a little small for US standards, but extremely clean and bright. Rooms facing the lake, even on the side of the building, have an excellent view of the lake, the town, and the mountains behind the lake. We had reserved the cheaper "SMART" double rooms, but were upgraded for free to rooms with the lake view. Parking was free in a lot near the hotel. It's a pleasant 3 minute walk to the casino area with plenty of restaurants to choose from. (The hotel does not have a restaurant.) You can also catch the tour boat that crisscrosses the lake also docks right there.

Personal service, excellent location

The Ogris am See Hotel has been a wonderful surprise for our first time in Velden. The hotel, that lays on Woerthersee, in the centre of Velden, was originally funded in the '50s and it has been wisely restored in winter 2010. The architect, that now also runs the hotel, formerly a family business, is a charming and always smiling young lady, happy to help you with any kind of suggestions and hints about the area. The environment is welcoming and furnished with glamour design pieces either from the '50 or originally created by the owner-architect. The atmosphere is familiar, though, and we had every 'special wish' granted, with kindness and affability and the help of the entire family...
The rooms are (almost all) quite spaceful, clean and comfortable. Breakfast (gorgious!) is served  in a terrace, partially covered by a glass roof, overlooking the Woerthersee from the first floor of the building, thus allowing for a wonderful view but avoiding the noise of the Seecorso at the ground level. At the first floor there is also a small and nice library/living room with books and daily newspapers at the guests' disposal. 
But the very unique place in the hotel is the roof garden with a brand new SPA and solarium overlooking the lake: a wonderful way for us to finish our day of sport and tourism in Carinthia! 
The hotel is 2 minutes walking from the Casino and its prices are slighlty lower than other 4-stars hotels in Velden, as I could realise from my search  in the area.
Hint for golfers: the hotel is in the Golfland Kaernten circuit, so you gather the 20% off for the green fee in about a dozen of golf courses in the area (http://golfland.kaernten.at). And, believe us, most of them are really worth a visit! Schoenes Spiel!!!
