Very good traditional Austrian food. Fair prices! But the service was not good! The waiter was not friendly and did not come to ask us even once if we wanted to order more food or drinks! I had the Zweiebelrostbraten, it was excellent! I would come back for the food if the service would improve!

Essen top, service flop!

We came late on Friday and were lucky to get the last room. Stuff was very welcoming. Room was for 3 people. One double and one single bed. Room was at the second floor without an elevator and it was clean. At night it was very hot as it has no air condition. Breakfast was good. Fresh bred, juices and yoghurt. The waiter was very helpful and nice. Location is perfect as it is only a couple of minutes away from the center.

One night stay

We chanced upon this charming old-fashioned hotel restaurant because we had been looking for a typical carinthian culinary experience (there are pizza places galore around the lake).
My wife had the Käsnudeln (not really noodles but rather a local type of ravioli) stuffed with "Topfen" (white cheese) and I took the Steinpilznudeln (stuffed with a mixture of potatoes and mushrooms). Both dishes are apparently local specialities and were very tasty but not rich or heavy. Since it's chestnut season, we had a chestnut tiramisu with "Obers" (whipped cream) that was outright delicious.
We had exactly the type of local food we'd wanted and throughly enjoyed it. The Merlot was good too. The old German waiter was a bit slow and gruffy but that didn't dampen our enjoyment.

The staff were exceptionally helpful. Hotel check out is 9am and I had an event from 9a-2p. They allowed me to keep my luggage with them and found a place for me to shower before I had to leave to catch a train to my next location - I am forever grateful that they went out of their way to help me. The hotel was quaint, cute, and had an old fashioned feel to it but definitely can use an update/make over with its amenities. It's a great location and very economical given it's located in a wealthy tourist spot.

Helpful Staff

I had the pleasure of staying at the Hotel Velden "Bacherlwirt" while attending a wedding in Velden.  I chatted for quite a while with the owners, Erik and Heidi.  The hotel has been in Heidi's Family for three generations now! 

The rooms a great value, and have all the modern conveniences, but I still have the rustic charm of a by gone era.

Erik even loaned me his bow tie for the wedding, as I forgot to pack mine, and Heidi let me use the iron and ironing board in the laundy facility to iron my shirt.  They truely made me feel like one of the family.

The dining room was nice, and the menu plentiful, but I found the tiny bar attached to be the best of all.  Sipping a beer, and meeting all the locals the wandered in and out.  The prices are right too!
