We stayed here for a week. Christian, who manages the house, was very easy to communicate with and he was very helpful in giving us suggestions on restaurants and hikes. The apartment is quite spacious with a nice balcony. Lots of space to hang up wet clothes etc. in the large bathroom.  The kitchen was good and fully equipped. And the house is  walking distance from the town center. Wi-Fi worked very well. The only thing that could have been better is the bed: it consists of a mattress but lacked the mattress pad and therefore was not so comfortable as it could have been.

All around great place to stay

This is our fourth trip to Haus Altenberger and every stay has been brilliant.  We look forward to returning for many years to come. 

Accommodation - General: This is a very well family run accommodation by a lovely and brilliant couple Christian and Jessica.  Christian is a top class ski instructor and guide and having lived at Haus Altenberger all his life can answer every question on the area; eg skiing, hiking, things to do, restaurants - personal recommendations that can really make a trip.  Christian's lovely English wife Jessica is a qualified yoga instructor and runs small intimate yoga classes from the Haus which are fantastic and a great way to recover after a ski or hike. 

Accommodation - Rooms: Really clean and spacious apartments.  We stayed in room 4 which had just been completely refurbished.  Under floor heating is very welcome particularly in winter. 

Location: You won't find a better view in all of Zell.  The Haus is one of the oldest in the town and has prime location on the hill with views over the town and the lake.  It is a short 10 minute walk to either the ski lifts or the centre.  This means the rooms are extremely quiet, particularly at night which is good. 

All in all, an absolutely gem of a place to stay - whether winter or summer.  Highly highly recommend.

We had a fantastic stay in Haus Altenberger. 
The apartments are incredibly spacious and comfortable and have been thoughtfully renovated with luxuries like under floor bathroom heating. I slept in the sofa bed as my friends were in the main bedroom but still had a very comfortable stay. All bedding, towels etc was spotlessly clean. The kitchenette is a perfect size (and we managed to prepare meals for 6 people a couple of times). It was an easy walk or drive to the Zell Am See town centre and ski lift. The owners Jessica and Christian are so helpful and friendly and know the area so well so can offer excellent tips on things to do. I really enjoyed joining Jessica’s yoga classes on two of the days - she was a great instructor and the classes are so small (average 3 people) and personal that it felt like a private lesson - a great contrast to the London classes I am used to where the classes are huge.  

I would recommend Haus Altenberger to all families with kids, or groups of friends, or couples wanting a comfortable holiday in Zell am See.

Beautifully situated, spacious, clean comfortable apartments, wth great yoga classes too

We had such a wonderful stay! Our apartment was sparkling clean and so welcoming. Every little touch has been thought of - from well placed hangers and mats to put your ski stuff and snow boots to little welcome wafers on our beds when we arrived. 
The bedroom was a great size (two single beds put together making a super-king size bed) with ample storage for a two week stay if we had needed it. We had a view of the lake and the balcony wrapped round the apartment meaning that there was always a little corner with sunshine. 
The kitchen was fully equipped for us to make breakfast and lunch. My favourite thing had to be the wonderf under floor heating which meant it was lovely and toasty after coming in from the cold. 
Jess, our host, gave us a lovely warm welcome and was on hand to offer recommendations for dinner and the best areas to ski. It was so lovely to have this personal touch. Would definitely come back!

Home from home in the mountains

You will not find a more cosy and spacious, quiet family run accommodation in zell am see.. with a view to die for as well.. cristian and his team are welcoming and friendly and the fact that it is out of town is very handy as there is no town noise 

Brilliant

We have just come back from a fantastic week in Zell am See in Austria and we could not have been happier with our stay at the Pension Altenberger.

We had one of the two rooms at the top of the Pension, with amazing views over the lake, even in the cloud and rain when we arrived. Our room was large, clean and comfortable. We had a TV and there was a kettle for tea and coffee. Our bathroom was small, but there was a bath with a showerhead which was absolutely fit for purpose. We enjoyed sitting out on the balcony in the evenings, sharing a glass of wine as the sun went down - perfect after some of the walks that we did. Breakfasts were plentiful and it was difficult not to eat everything on offer! Sitting out on the sun terrace eating it was a perfect start to the day.

This is a family run hotel and we very much enjoyed the personal service that we received. The owners obviously love where they live and are keen that their guests experience the beauty of the area. This was great for us as we wanted to do a lot of walking so were given brilliant advice on where to go and when. Just what we needed.
