while travelling through Belgium, we stopped to Banneaux on our way to SPA.

there we checked in at the Hotel De La Chapelle.

Staff: nice, but besides a young girl, all over 75
Rooms: clean, but smell like old, heating works or not, in some rooms it's raining a bit
Location: nothing special
Food: breakfast, very poor, if you order from the menu (dinner or lunch) - decent. 

Price: 25 Euro/ bed + breakfast.

The strangest thing is after you finish eating to know that a 75 old woman with a stick has to clean after you ...

... passed its time

My son booked this place as we were attending the Belgian GP over the weekend of 22, 23 and 24 August 2014. He remarked it seemed odd that this hotel had vacancies at that time as it was not far from the race track and he had booked it late. When we turned up we realised why!
The front door goes into the bar/restaurant area. Only one table was occupied - the rest was empty. We were met by a young man who was about 18 years old. We said we had a reservation. He took our bags and led us through a door marked "Toilettes"!
The room was not very nice with dated furniture (what there was of it). It had no double-glazing so that when we awoke in the morning the windows were streaming with condensation. Consequently the bottom of the windows and parts of the window-ledge had black mold. The beds were very uncomfortable being very hard and uneven. The bathroom left a lot to be desired with mold in places. We did not use the shower but it seemed that you had to climb over the toilet if you wanted to use it!
We went down intending to get dinner but looking round we decided to eat elsewhere. We returned at 10.45pm to find all the lights out and the door locked. After ringing the doorbell an old woman with a stick slowly approached from the far end. She stopped six feet away from the door and asked us what we wanted. We explained that we have booked a room. She pointed to a door further along which we were able to open with a key. None of this had been explained to us before. We went to bed at 11.30pm only to be disturbed at 11.45pm by some alarm going off and lots of voices outside. It took about 15 minutes before the alarm stopped. We were then awakened at 5.20am by something very heavy being dropped in the room above us. Shortly after, something like a table or a bed was heard being pushed across the room above. There then followed about an hour of tapping, light banging, scraping and some alarm going.
As we wanted to get to the track early in the morning we decided to skip breakfast. We went down to the bar area at 7.00am the next morning. There was no-one about. After calling at a half-open door the old woman with the stick appeared. We told her we did not want breakfast so could we settle up. This took about ten minutes because she did not seem to know what to do. She got out a bag of receipts, emptied it, looked at the receipts and then put them back in the bag again. She then asked how much the room was! After we told her she made a phone call to which she got no answer. She fiddled about with something then made another phone call. Again, no answer. Shortly after, the phone rang and she spoke to someone. She then got up and went to the other side of the bar. She got a box out and started taking things out of it. She then came back to where we were standing and produced a receipt book. After taking the money she eventually wrote out a receipt. We could get out!
We stayed in four different hotels on our trip and this was by far the worst - and the most expensive. Never again. The hotel is situated in Banneux which is weird in itself. See my review on that!
