Overpriced hotel especially if you are given a room across the street in another building with no lift. Breakfast is nice, on a beautiful room. Contrastingly  some of the staff assisting breakfast are rude to the point that you almost feel Iike apologizing for just being there. Don’t think I will ever come back again. A pity, really, as this is very conveniently located.

Not recommended at all

I have booked a room for 4 days, with one room price 1180€, breakfast included. As I could not make the traveling to Brussels due to sickness, I was surprised when they charged me 408€ for not show up. When I asked why, hotel sent me the breadown price for 4 nights, via booking com, and I was suprised that the 1 night was 408€ and the other 3 nights each 229€. The shame is that they did not informed me before booking about this huge difference between the first night and the rest. Is ii done intentionally to rip off the clients or simple lack of transparency? I will let the other that see my review to judge.

Surcharging the clients for not showing up.

I would not stay in this hotel again. Before I share my experience let me start by mentioning things that the trip advisor web site states that this hotel has or service/s it provides and it does not.

It does not provide currency exchange. I tried to get some currency exchanged I was told that don’t do it. I even asked if they would have change of 50 euros and the answer was “no”. A safe is listed in room feature on trip advisor web site which I did not have in my room. 

Now my experience: We checked in the hotel on August 14, 2023. At the check in we were told my room has a portable A/C unit but there is a pipe that goes from the back of the A/C to outside so the window has to be kept open when the A/C is operating (picture attached). This unit is only good if you are in front of the unit. Next good news I was given that my room is across the street from the main entrance of the hotel. It is on the 3rd floor (4th if you live in United States) and there is no elevator/lift so we will have to carry our suitcases to the 3rd/4th floor.

When we went inside the room what we saw was like an attic converted into a room (some pictures attached). I did not see a room looking like what I was given in any of pictures they have on their web site (please see the pictures attached). The room was dirty with chips under and around the bed. It did have a small flat screen tv with one tv channel. The shower area was small, so some people may have problems once they close the shower door. 

If you want to roll the dice and still stay in this hotel then good luck to you.


Disappointed

Very small rooms, fly in bathroom upon arrival. No duvet sheets or blankets for bed upon arrival. 

Staff unfriendly, not polite when checking in. They seemed not bothered. 

Shower size is tiny. 

It is more like a uni room than a 3 star hotel.

Location is good and the price. It’s cheap

Overall, you’d expect a lot more for your money. This is supposed to be a 3 star hotel but it is like my old uni room.

Bog standard room, good location and cheap yet has problems…

So, the good part to this story is that the hotel is in a great location - not far from Madou tram and about 10 minutes walk to the main square.  There are plenty of bars and eateries surrounding the hotel.  The Wi-Fi is free and strong, perfect for work and the staff are both helpful and pleasant.  Nice and clean.

However, there is no aircon (fan provided) so it can get really hot in the summer even if the window is open.  The soundproofing is poor and some rooms on the front street are hellish.    Moreover, rooms are tiny and the shower is even smaller so don't stay here if you are fat.  Hot water was a bit hit and miss too.  Check out is 11am which is also annoying.

Probably fine for a short stay, but I would not return due to the quality of sleep.

Mediocre

I’m surprised by some of the bad reviews. I will make this my new go-to hotel in Brussels.

Staff was friendly. Our room was lovely- high ceilings and period details. The location is excellent- a real local neighborhood but walking distance from the touristy center and train station.

Breakfast looked good although we didn’t use it.

The one thing is that there is a lot of variety among the rooms. Some have retained authentic 19th century decor and ceilings- others are bland modern renovations. If you like peace and quiet, the ones in the courtyard dependance might suit you.

Oh and it definitely has an elevator.

great option in Brussels

The room was a corridor adapted poorly, you almost had to get into bed by the front because there was no room on the side.
Breakfast very basic and with no chance to refill. Some of the rooms are not even in the same building and you have to cross the street (in the rain) to go to breakfast.

Very poor

We spent two nights in this place. We had a good room looking at the back side to a small garden. Liked the old building and the very good breakfast with good service. Location is perfect, the receptionists are helpful.

Liked it!

Spent a night here on a business trip. Grand old building but thoroughly modernised bedrooms. Comfy bed, great breakfast (continental not cooked, but there were boiled eggs) tea/coffee and kettle in room. Lots of restaurants and cafes close by. Short walk from Grand Place where there are plenty of shops, restaurants and interesting buildings.
