Avoid if at all possible. Very agressive owner (maybe he has mental health issues) Very poor service. One of the worst places in the region. Very bad experience. Loads of very good restaurants in the region; this is not one of them.

Service agressif

An excellent choice to stay at Chiny and do some hiking in its surroundings. We had booked a "grand confort" room, which was really big and absolutely quiet, with nice views. The breakfast is okay, but the dinner is for sure high quality! Moreover, they made every effort to cater for an extra vegan menu - much appreciated!

Value for money!

I was stopping at this beautiful place with my friend last week.  We arrived at 14:05.  They refused to serve food "because the kitchen is closed at 14:00".  At the same time, a table just next to us, they were serving delicious smelling brochette that have been ordered a few minutes before 14:00.

This is a terrible customer experience ?  How can you refuse service in such a touristic place, during high season ? 

Be sure to be hungry between 12:00 and 14:00 - not sooner or later.

Do not server food outside lunch & dinner time

I found this hotel using Trip Advisor, and was very glad to have done so.
It is within about 200 miles of Rotterdam and Zeebrugge which we use several times each year for ferry crossings, so I definitely intend to stay here again, with my wife next time (I was travelling solo this time).
Although it looks quite old, the rooms have been well refurbished with a tasteful mixture of old and modern. Everything worked as it should. The accommodation price is very reasonable, and I arrived in time to sample and enjoy the table de hote dinner. which was also reasonably priced and very good.
It appears that the owner is also the manager and chef.
Breakfast was also good, I asked for and got an omelette, which is not always possible in French speaking parts of Europe.
The location is very peaceful and rural, on the river Semois, next to a footbridge. The road ends in a launching area for small boats and kayaks.
It was a grey, drizzly evening when I arrived, and similar in the morning, but I expect that, in better weather, the whole area is a good holiday spot for walkers, kayakers, and for relaxing in general.

A Good Stopover - Worth Repeating

The hotel is located very beautifully, right next to a river where you can go swimming in the summer. It is quite and romantic at night, and a good starting place for some hiking or enjoying the Ardennes.

Unfortunately, the hotel is in some need of renovation or at least some TLC. The outside could be tidied up a little, and inside it's dark and stuffy. The worst, however, was our room. The bathroom is modern but smelled moldy and unpleasant. The furniture is from the 1970s at best, and it was so incredibly dusty that my fiancé got an asthma attack at night. In addition, a nightmare of mine came true when I woke up at night and turned on the light next to the bed - just to see a big spider sitting on my pillow.

The breakfast was quite nice, but nothing amazing or special. We also had the dinner included in the half-pension scheme, and that was pretty nice. They even offered to cook some beef for me as I don't eat pork, which was appreciated. However, it took a little long until we were served and the staff were not especially friendly.

All in all, an ok place to stay, but I would certainly chose to stay elsewhere next time if I go back to the region.

Allergy-sufferers beware

Due to car trouble we stranded in Chiny. We ended up staying in Aux Comtes de Chiny, a nice hotel with friendly staff. Getting there on such short notice was no problem at all. The hotel terrace overlooks the river Semois. A beautifull sight. The forrest at the other side of the Semois offers the possibility for nice walks or bike tours.
