2 star hotel but more like 2 star +. Rooms are good and clean, some may say the rooms are small but they are more than adequate for a long weekend stay with continental breakfast included. The restaurant is excellent but the service can slow a little when busy. All in all thoroughly recommend staying and eating here

Long weekend stay

This hotel in the quiet and pretty village of Vencimont was an appealing combination of charm, quality and simplicity. Our room was unfussy, airy and comfortable. Dinner was a treat, in elegant surroundings with a good value tasting menu and a lip-licking wine list. Breakfast was another delight, representing everything a good continental breakfast should be - fresh juice, fresh fruit, fresh croissants and rolls, cereals, hams and cheeses and life-enhancing coffee.  If you're visiting the area (or hiking the GR126 like us), this is a lovely spot for the night.

A gem in the Ardennes

It took me three trips and and down the main street to find Le Barbouillon - it's a large building on the street, but the sign is obscured.

This is a charming hotel.  An old stone building, with additional rooms and an annexe cottage containing two double bedrooms to the rear.  I had this annex entirely to myself - overkill, but a last-minute change meant I travelled on my own.

The hotel's restaurant is exceptional.  There are three set-price menus at 30, 50 and 70 euros (the last one being a gastronomic one).  Over the two nights, I tried the other two.  Both were quite splendid.  All menus are fixed - there is no choice of starters or main courses, and I do not know how often they are changed.  There is also an a la carte suggestion.  Extensive wine list.

Breakfasts are fairly standard - juice, coffee, sliced meat, cheese, bread, cake.  Perfectly adequate.

The setting is very calm, very quiet.  There are a couple of other bars and restaurants in Vencimont if you want to experiment.  

I loved it.  I'll be back.

Charming hotel, excellent food, in a pretty village

It is probably the only hotel in Vencimont, a very small sleepy village lost in the Belgian countryside. The place is a little bit old fashioned, especially the rooms, but everything is working properly (tv, shower, bed, power sockets..) so I can't really complain about anything. There is also a restaurant, with prices slightly above the average. Breakfast is just fine, nothing outstanding.
The lady speaks only French, not even a single word of any other language. Unacceptable in the hotel business, from my point of view.
