My husband and I enjoyed a one night stay during a short business trip to Maastricht. We travel a lot both for business and pleasure, and try to avoid staying in city centres or chain hotels so that we may experience a quieter, more individual experience. 

I was immediately drawn to Kasteel Pietersheim when I saw the stunning building on their website, and it's location in Lanaken, just inside the Belgian/Netherlands border and a short drive to Maastricht. 

We booked directly with the hotel who went out of their way to ensure that our needs (my husband has slight mobility issues) were met. 

On arrival we were completely blown away by the peaceful, semi rural setting and the stunning house. Ducks waddling on the lawns and a tranquil pond nearby really did make it hard to believe you were in a suburb. 

Check in was swift and trouble free and we were shown to our room; Room 5 on the first floor. Wow, what a beautiful room; high ceilings gave a roomy, airy feel and the decor was simple and gorgeous. Tall windows let the light flow in and the view towards the woods, fields and pond was just perfect. Tea and coffee making facilities were provided and the chef was happy to bring us some fresh milk for our tea. 

The bathroom was simply gorgeous, again flooded with light from the beatiful windows and with a corner bath with shower above and a separate loo. Light, cool and airy, the room was large and spotlessly clean, with good quality towels and hairdryer and bath/shower products provided. 

Our bed was lovely; twins put together to form a double with lovely bedding and a super comfortable mattress. Waking in the morning to the sound of ducks quacking and seeing the sun rise over the fields was a joy. 

Breakfast was lovely; freshly baked breads and pastries, cold cuts, yoghurts, fresh fruit salad and good coffee and orange juice. A perfect way to start the day. 

I believe we were the only guests when we stayed and the hotel was very quiet, but the staff we met were polite, efficient and friendly and we felt most welcome. We enjoyed some time in the grounds of the Kasteel before our meeting and this only confirmed how stunning the setting and surroundings were. 

It was such a shame our stay at Kasteel Pietersheim was so short. We'd have loved to have spent longer enjoying the house and grounds, but we will most definitely stay again when we are next in the area.

A Lovely Stay in a Beautiful Hotel

The new Kasteel Pietersheim is a Great place to stay.
Breakfast is very good, rooms are comfortable and so is the bed. Enjoy the Great view from the castle! Stay for dinner! Kitchen is Great! Service is warm and up to standaard. Close to Maastricht it is Great Value for money.

Great Value for money!

This hotel is located in a beautiful historic building, at only 10 mins from Maastricht. The rooms have a nice 19th century like atmosphere. The rooms are spacious. The breakfast buffet is nice, not too much choice though. The hotel has a restaurant, where we had a nice lunch (but also dinner is possible). Wifi is available but does not work always due to the thick walls of the historic building. The hotel has its own parking. The staff is very friendly.

Good alternative for hotel in Maastricht

The forest around and the outside of the chateau are gorgeous, the inside is less glorious. Nice, nothing wrong. But nothing too exciting either. 
The room was basic. The laminate on the floor felt cheap and cold. the bathroom was just alright. The bed was fine, lovely soft sheets. 
The breakfast was ok, but if you are a vegetarian or don’t like bread or dairy, you don’t have much choice. Plus the service was very mediocre. The staff paid no attention to peoples needs, several people had to ask for tea or coffee. 
So all in all, okay experience but I wouldn’t rush back.
